S3E6 - The Shadow in the Night

Fair enough, but it has to start somewhere. I guess we’ll just have to see where they go with it. -

They haven’t really had a chance yet. In the books Mat’s luck began to manifest in TDR, but since they skipped that book there really hasn’t been an opportunity to show mats luck. Perhaps it starts with the bracelet. -

Ok, I don’t see where you asked any question that I didn’t answer. I’m just trying to clarify my points and understand yours a little better, but if you wish this conversation to be over then so be it🤷 -

The show is based on the books so I use the books to make guesses about the show. Its not a hard concept and I don’t understand why it’s an issue for you. What other reference would I use? -

Thom is also important to the Tanchico storyline in the books but they have changed several things about him including how they met him and how he got to Tanchico. Keep in mind that in the show Thom was also a random guy they met in a bar. Incidently I also referred back to the books to figure out who he was before they named him. -

I always pictured a fez too, but it would be far from the first time these writers interpretation has differed from mine 🤷🤣 -

Right, because they would never change a character or a storyline for the purposes of this show 🙄 -

I’m not sure the dude is so random. I get the suspicion that he goes by the name Juilin Sandar. He has the look (not that that always matters in this show) and Juilin was a big part of the Tanchico storyline. Given that he catches thieves I’d say he’d be particularly skilled at tracking down lost items. -

Good thought, but he seems a bit young to be Jain/Noal. -

I think the reason Rand was so downplayed in season 1 was because they wanted to make it more of a mystery as to which of the of the Two Rivers five was The Dragon Reborn. That was the one thing about season one I really liked, I always thought that the book made it way too obvious. But overall I agree that season one was just bad. -
The he thing that made me really enjoy Peter Jackson’s LOTR was that despite the departures from the books the story was told in the same tone as the novels and so it still felt like LOTR Same went for Game of Thrones, the books had a darker tone and thus so did the show so it felt like the same world and the same story. WOT by contrast just does not have the same tone as the books. It feels like they are trying to tell the story of WOT in the tone of GOT and it just feels off, despite some familiar characters and scenes it just doesn’t feel like the same story.

S3E6 - The Shadow in the Night

Why is it that this show feels like a rough draft. It really seems like it has potential but that it should have gone through a few more revisions before being released. It also seems like Rafe is beginning to regret some of the departures he made from the book in season one. Natti suddenly cares about the girls, Mat is acting more like his book self, they mention that Tam and Able are in hiding for defying the White Cloaks just like in the book, really doesn’t sound like the Able we met in season 1. We have Saidar and Saidin mentioned for the first time, a division that was greatly downplayed in the previous two seasons. Did Rafe actually realize that so much of the story just won’t work without this division. All in all we’ve gotten a decent show that could have been great. -

I love, love , love, love Moghedian! The compulsion scene was brilliant, Zoe and Ceara played it so well. It felt more like the book than any other screen in the show so far. -

I noticed that, it was a HUGE mistake. This show has a lot of potential but they keep making significant errors that kind of ruin it. -

I would be good with Semi filling Mesanna’s roll especially considering that The White Tower has been made such a central part of the TV storyline Mesanna seems more essential to the story than Semi. The only issue with her being Alviarin is the Alvarian was already present before the Forsaken were released. -

Guessing the 8 Forsaken
The_Watcher_And_Wanderer replied to Finnssss22's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
Yes, JR most definitely had a plan for Demondred that never came to fruition and it is commonly know as “Taimondred.” Unfortunately he scrapped this plan because too many people figured it out and he thought that meant it was too obvious. While Taimondred may have, in fact, been obvious that is only because it made so much sense and is the exact reason he should have kept it. I had kinda hoped the show would resurrect Taimondred but it looking like that ain’t going to happen. -

I too have heard the Aran’gar rumors and unless they take a major turn from the books we know that Rhavin and Asmo are headed for the chopping block sometime soon so I’m thinking maybe one of them becomes Aran’gar. And perhaps the other becomes Osan’gar?🤔 -

I’m just glad to see them acknowledging the divide between male and female half’s of The One Power. Up until now they really seemed to be downplaying that aspect. Not holding my breath but maybe, just maybe, before the season is over we’ll hear the words “Siadin” and “Siadar” uttered. -

I was really surprised to hear Semirhage mentioned. I thought for sure that both Asmodean and Demondred would be included among the show’s Elite Eight. Honestly I’m thinking that the eighth Forsaken will be Asmodean. For one thing I believe his name was already mentioned in season 2 (though not 100% on that) secondly while Demondred was a constant and often compelling presence in the books, his ultimate reveal was a bit underwhelming and added little to the story. Overall he really didn’t do all that much in the books and while I will miss him, the show can easily do without him.
