  1. you adressed almost everything I think is wrong with the show's first season and that I also think doomed the show. But I also think that casting rosamund pike was a huge mistake in the long run because it makes rafe rewrite too much of the book story to give more action time to moiraine. And this problem propagates to several seasons while moiraine is alive. I also think that the "who is the dragon" could have worked, but they needed to eliminate the possible candidates during the season". for ex, first have moiraine give a short history lesson to the kids to explain that the dragon is a man (eliminating egg but showing she can be a powerfull aes sedai), then use an ep about the dagger and another ep about wolves to eliminate the boys while making it visible during the season that rand can use a bit of saidin.
  2. I think this shows more how absurd it was to hire rafe than anything else. People that try to do good adaptations of these big fantasy works always try to get into contact with the comunity or the authors of these ips. the first thing rafe did was to alienate sanderson and the book comunity. Not even D&D that are huge self centered idiots did this. It is kind of amazing how people can ignore huge red flags like this...
  3. I meant that nyn and egg are mary sues in season 1. the women's circle was just an example of elevating women whenever it was possible. that makes the audience feel the show is propagandizing for certain political views instead of just telling a story. and you don't get what I said. a show doesn't have to prove anything. the scripts that rafe produced showed that the show wanted to propagandize certain political views in season 1. there is a reason that a lot of people that watched the first season tought the show was too woke and other things. my sugestion was that if rafe didn't want to produce a show that screamed "woke" and "feminist agenda" to the audience he should have focused on diferent things. And I used the word propagandizing several times to make it clear that weather you like or not for A LOT of people season 1 propagandizes certain political view points. but I agree that in the following seasons it happens less and less
  4. I think all that changes make the show lose the support of the book comunity and even make the show gain some haters, but I don't think changes are really the problem here. Season 3 had changes from the books and is generally liked. The problem is more that a lot of the changes done in previous seasons make the show bad. a lot of people here read people complaining about not liking the changes from the books and assume people are criticizing the show just because it is diferent instead of being bad.
  5. I completly disagree. At least in season 1 there are mary sues and at every oportunity it elevates women over men. even in something as stupid as having the women's circle being killing machines while the men die. One of the things rafe failed to understand is that by showing the world though a male perspective in the first books it gives some false sense of balance between genders. wot needs to have some strong male characters in the first seasons so that it doesn't look like an extreme woke show. It can't have have nyn and egg creating miracles every once in a while and ignore rand. because then when rand is revealed as the dragon nobody cares about him. season 2 tried to solve this issue until the last episode where rand once again didn't do almost anything. season 3 was the first season where rand actually got to shine in the last episode... you can say whatever you want, but the 1st season of the show failed completly in making the public bond with rand and you can't do a wot show if rand isn't one of the favorite characters of the show. it is like doing a batman series where robin has all the wow moments... ps and you just have to look at the data that says half the people stoped watching the show between season 1 and 2 to see how badly acepted season 1 was.
  6. are you being sarcastic? because in the first 2 books rand does so many things in the finals that they cut or gave to other people that you can't even compare. just looking at the first season, rand's grand gesture was to not wanting to live in a fantasy world with his perfect version of egg (even in the end they made rand all about egg). compare that to the first book...
  7. acording to what an user above said they didn't have to pay for wot while rop cost them a lot of money. so if they had to decide between 1 of the shows it makes sense that it is rop. but if wot was profitable I don't think the show would be canceled. which is also a bit strange because besides scenarios and rosamund pike everything else in the show should be cheap (I think the weaves special effects should actually be pretty cheap because there are several chinese dramas that have simillar special effects in most episodes these days)
  8. amazon has other big shows like the boys, jack ryan, rings of power and probably other shows I am not remembering. But I would say that they failed in their fantasy shows. for some reason the quality of rop and wot is much worse than several of their shows that strangely don't seem to need to follow any agenda.
  9. after all this talk about season 1, one thing I would like to know is if non book readers were disapointed that the dragon was rand instead of egg or nyn. Because I can also see people quiting the show because they find out that the main character is going to be a guy that they didn't like.
  10. for that to work nobody could know anything about the dragon, the war and a lot of other things that they talk about in s1 and are almost common knowledge. At most I could see the kids thinking that anybody could be the dragon and then moiraine correcting them and telling them a bit about history. THAT could have worked. ps I actually think that the idea that things could be less certain is actually terrible because on tv and with their time contraints things need to be clearer and easy to explain. make the lore more convuluted doesn't seem smart to me
  11. I wouldn't be surprised if another streaming company continued the show. It clearly needs a rebranding in order to atract the people it lost because of season 1 and that is a way to do it. besides that the ip probably lost value since amozon bought it and they might be willing to sell it at a low price to gain some of their losses.
  12. I say this again. the show was doomed to fail from the beguining when they casted rosamund pike. moraine isn't ned stark! by casting such a big actress they decided to fundamentally change the story to increase moraine's role instead of focusing on the ef5 and try to adapt a simplified version of the books. And I don't think this should be up for debate. so I don't get how anyone can defend that rafe loves the books and wanted to make an adaptation with only the necessary changes for it to work on tv and the time constraints when just by casting rosamund pike shows he had no intention whatsoever of doing it. that choice garanteed that he had to rewrite a lot of the book events just to give more action time to rosmanund pike.
  13. I am kind of surprised that rafe and the writers are getting some support instead of serious hate. It seems clear that most people agree that the show is being cancelled because of season 1 and rafe and his team are the only culprits of a series of really bad choices that ended up dooming the series.
  14. I don't get why people even try to refute this. hell, if the goal is to condense the story then the last thing that any sane person should have done is to cast rosamund pike and make her the main character instead of focusing as much as possible on rand, mat, perrin and eg... Even if she is an amazing actress or whatever casting her was the first step to doom the show.
  15. robert jordan clearly intended for people to think that the dragon could be either a man or a woman. or having nyn bring people back from the dead or making rand a background character in the first book...
  16. this is just not true. the show failed because of its awfull 1st season with several changes that made no sense and contradicted the information from the books. the show didn't try to be a simpler version of the books. it tried to be an improved version of the books where they could introduce a woke agenda a change the main characters of the books.
  17. was I the only one that thougth that the editing during the battle was really bad? the 2 rivers defenders were always jumping from location to another location without we ever hearing "fall back" or giving us the impression of iminent doom. also, visually having the bad and good guys both dressed in the same way made it visually impossible to see who was winning. they could have given slightly diferent uniforms to one of the sides just because of visual reasons.
  18. I get what you are saying and on tv the mystery about who is the dragon could have worked. but the execution was very poor. I don't even really want to waste time talking about it lol. I completly agree that this season (even the second) were much better than the first. I just can't say if it is because of rafe or despite him lol. I think even ignoring the woke agenda and the awfull finale of the first season, the writers just didn't understand the story. wot is a universe filled with strong and powerfull women. it needs some strong male proganists to balance all that female power. however they went out of their way to make things as unbalanced as possible.
  19. I think that is the core problem of the show. First, the first season was very very bad. rafe tried to fundamentaly change the story and focused too much on nyn and eg to the point that rand became a side character whose only characteristic was dating eg. However, things improved a lot on the second season. I thought I would drop this show somewhere during that season but I think the only really big flaw I remember now is that rand should have done something eye catching when he killed villain at the end of the season and not just stad him. Then this season is by far the more grounded one that has really focused on rand as the main character. And we can see in the break up scene of this ep how much the show has improved. It really feels like the writers didn't have the experience or knowledge needed in the first season. if that season had the same quality as the third season has had so far I think this would be a much more popular show
