  1. I really hope they minimize Moiranne’s role in the show after season 1. I don’t care about her character in the books or the show and the actor for Moiranne just makes me dislike her more.

I don’t get how they’re going to turn around and make Rand the lead when they’re not making viewers care about his character at all. If they even do that much with him at all. I get they’re trying to make new viewers guess who the Dragon Reborn is (it’s still pretty obvious tho) but it’s hurting more than anything and I feel like they don’t even care much about Rand’s character.

Egwene, Nynaeve, Moiranne, and Lan have all also felt vastly more important characters than Rand, Mat, and Perrin which is just absolutely bizarre.

I think what baffles me the most about this show isn’t what they cut, it’s what they add. You have huge books to adapt and rather than using them you just add new unimportant scenes and cut away parts that could be much more interesting and relevant. The Warder in episode 5 for example did not need so much focus. A random character subtracting from development and progress that could have been giving to our main characters that no one cares about because they don’t get enough screen time.

  2. I voted dislike, but I was probably more neutral when the show started. I think episode 4 really restored my hope of the show. It did a lot I didn’t like, but it also felt the most of what I expected this season to be like. But after episode 4 I feel the show just plummeted with 5 and 6 being the worst episodes yet.

I imagine episodes 7 and especially 8 will be good, but if this show doesn’t end on a good note I don’t know if I even want it to continue. Not that my opinion matters as season 2 is being filmed and 3 already paid for. I do find it odd that they’re this far in the show without waiting for any fan responses. I do hope they take into account a lot of the fan criticisms, because I think there is still a lot here working to turn this show around and make it good.

There’s a few more specific notes I’d make, but those would involve some book spoilers.

  3. No surprise for old members that most of the new ones are here to primarily discuss the show. I have read the whole series once and am currently rereading it. Can’t say I’m in love with the show yet, but the books are my favorite fantasy series and has some of my favorite characters across fiction (Rand al’Thor especially).

Hopefully with this show trending, more and more people will come to this forum and discuss not just the show but also the books. I’ve read a lot from the forums in the past but just never made an account, but, I’m finally here.

  4. Pacing. Nowadays people want a much more quick paced read than what The Wheel of Time is, even the series as a whole can suffer from slow pacing. Personally I wasn’t wholly invested when I read the first book either, it was really the second that got me hooked. Though rereading the first book has my opinion changing and I love it much more than when I first read it.

When I first read The Eye of the World I hated how slow it felt, but rereading it I appreciate the slow pace and how well fleshed out RJ took with everything. Can’t forget about the Prologue either, which was the most confusing read ever at first, but on the reread was an absolute masterpiece.

  5. Wasn’t Mordeth teased in the trailer of Mat’s dagger? I think I recall a voice saying “let’s make a deal,” major disappointment that he didn’t make an appearance. His engagement with the characters is either my favorite or second favorite part of the first book.

So I’m guessing he got cut, unless I’m not remembering correctly.

  6. I totally called Egwene being a taverean, it makes sense and I always wondered if people theorized in the books that she was one. I’m fine with this, because it doesn’t really change anything. But honestly, it does slightly diminish her character and make some of her accomplishments less impressive. Before she’s doing these things via being a talented woman and now, it’s because she’s taverean? Obviously a bit of both, but I’m sure you understand a bit of what I mean.

Anyway, I get it, don’t mind it, but I can see how people would like or dislike the decision.

  7. I kept trying to view this show with an open mind, but it was hard. So many additions to leave out good chunks that imo shouldn’t be absent. I thought the 2nd and 3rd episodes were good, but man, that first one was a bit brutal for me.

I get they’re trying to make it more questionable as to who the Dragon Reborn is for new viewers, but man, the sacrifices this causes just isn’t worth it.

I actually really like the depiction of the Children of the Light. I was thrown off by their designs at first but they’ve grown on me. Have only good to say about them tbh.

I will say, the best thing so far has been the settings. Beautiful landscapes that give a Wheel of Time feel. So far I’d give the season somewhere between a 7-8/10. I was disappointed, expecting more, but I still have hope this'll get better.
