The BEATING HEART of WOT is the difference between Saidar and Saidin, the taint upon the latter due to the desperate actions of the Dragon, and resulting gender dichotomy. The TV series almost completely ignores this, dumbing it down to "men can't wield the One Power without going mad," ignoring that men can't see women's weaves and vice versa, and making LTT look like an arrogant ass.
I actually made a complaint much like this recently, in the books Saidin is described as a raging torrent of fire and ice that needed to be fought and controlled, and Saidar was described as a gentle but infinitely powerful stream that needs to be surrendered too, its why men refer to "seizing the power" and woman "embrace the power". So many things that descriptively made this dynamic amazing and in the show we gave men and woman with this samey swirly white crap except men have some black swirly crap on thier white swirly crap.. also am really salty they removed the elemental nature of channeling.
i absolutely HATE the dopey hand waving, nowhere in the books did you have whole body waving as a prerequisite for channelling.

Some will argue that it hardly diverged at all. After all, it ended at some place they are calling The Eye of the World, so it's the same really.
Just because it started and ended where it was supposed to, does not make it the same really. Especially when the start and the end weren't true to the books, so no, not the same.

The dumb is shared. Still dumb, just not alone ?
Indeed. But as too the original question, means "fire", it says it next to it, which i hear is what all the hip young people say instead of cool.
?.. nevermind that i cant seem to get rid of it... Anyways, moving on.. i can only guess at, but in Aus it usually isn't a bad thing when someone calls you a 'Orse

I don't think this is too far from the books. Channelers(especially Rand, Nyn, Egwene, Elayne) came up with new stuff all the time and they were strong and made regular Aes Sedai look incompetent regularly. Early books were just testing and experimenting with the OP IMO. I remember vaguely something about Moiraine saying she was at her limits in book 1 when fighting the shadowspawn. I might be totally wrong.
One thing(among a vast many things) that has annoyed me about this show is its portrayal of the power. From memory men didn't "glow" with the power but women glowed and the OP came from within, so the strange white power strands reaching off behind channelers into nowhere is wierd, the only time those types of things are mentioned is when involving Rand, specifically at the Eye of the World and iirc the Final Battle.
That was just my interpretation anyway.
Also the fact that the OP just looks.. the same.. they removed any difference between men and women bar some black swirls. Saidin had to be fought and controlled(described as a raging torrent of molten fire and ice iirc) and Saidar had to be surrendered too. Not to mention the different elements.

of course he claims to be a book fan ...
imagine if he said "well im not really a fan of the books..."
To me, it feels as though he has only skim read the books then made a show based on a quick skim read.

I cannot forgive them for Having ruined my most beloved books and characters.
All male characters have been made dirty beyond belief
BUT
on a second thought what they did to Nyn and Eg is even worse: they have transformed them in these unbearable onedimensional Marysues which is sooo opposite from the books in which they had to work hard, suffer, adapt and overcome their limitations...but now "you are Dying? No problem, untrained Marysues god-tier healing will save the day".
At this point i think id honestly prefer that terrible Billy Zane Winter Dragon over what I've seen of this season

After watching the final episode.. i think i can honestly say i dont care what happens next season.. if these characters in this show didn't have the names of characters from the books it would be almost unrecognisable.
I am actually really upset. My missus is laughing at how upset i am over a tv show but i am cut. Rafe gone done screwed the pooch on this i think..
Obviously i am going to watch season 2 in hopes of an improvement but ep 8 was absolutely appalling.

I am so frustrated after watching that I basically can’t sleep.
It’s so odd. I understand they wanted to pick up a show with a level of name recognition but if they didn’t like WoT then why bother pretending to make it?
If the characters didn’t have these names, there is almost no chance that anyone would realise that the show is meant to be WoT.
The whole thing has drained me. I thought episode 4 was a bit of a turning point but it has fell of a cliff edge since then, with the final episode being someone dropping a boulder on the broken bits after hitting the ground.
I feel this so much. I honestly believe they should have thrown 10 million at a reputable writer and got a completely original story written instead of destroying one that was already established and loved.

Yup.
Described as "darkly handsome" by Graendal I think. And with a still mote of the "true power" in one of his eyes.
And also not sure if it counts towards Rand not seeing his kids, but in avi's "future visions" in her second trip through the rings she doesn't see rand. Although i think she had feet in that vision sooooo..

The book ends before the blessed event happens. But I think there's reason to believe that he'd not be a deadbeat dad, even without Min's viewing.
As far as i recall the book says he rides off into the sunset in Moridins(I think that was his name haha) body.

When Egwene is tested formally in the White Tower she's given three different scenarios. In one she's married to Rand. At the moment I don't recall what followed. (I admit I don't think childen were involved. But this is from the book...so anything goes)
I am fairly certain that one of her testing "visions"/"experiences" do include her married to Rand and having a child, but the viewing was when she looked at Rand not Egwene. Although that could mean anything as the show doesn't hold true to the books.

Well okay. Ep 7 was pretty good. I mostly enjoyed it.
See if Mats in the in 8 but if not you can tell that he left after ep 6. Maybe he didn't like edgy dark Mat either??
The Ways had a good feel, not how i had envisioned it but ill let it slide.
I dont like that they made Lord Agelmar so disrespectful and dismissive of Aes Sedai as that is a complete 180 on his character and i dont believe his sister could actually channel in the books but whatev.
Now.. the Blight.. UGH.. it looked kinda cool with the skull in the wood and all.. but that WAS NOT the Blight.
Also, they designed Fal Dara all wrong.. The outer walls are meant to slope ?

High deserts can be cold and snowy.
Can be and are are two entirely different things. I understand this isn't exactly like the books(unfortunately), but when they reach the Borderlands through the Ways and are heading to Fal Dara, there was snow. I remember RJ describing the difference in building design so buildings wouldn't collapse under snow.
I just expected a snowy fortress is all. Just another thing that to add to the list of changes.

Correct me if im wrong.. but from memory and the impression i got from the book was that Fal Dara was a cold snowy place

On a side note, when having trouble sleeping in years past, I would sometimes imagine myself in one of these adventure stories, focusing on the mundane details. What would it be like to flee from a potentially dangerous situation? How much time/planning would be necessary? What type of supplies would be needed? What type of precautions would I take? There's always an inn to stay at...what would the building look like? What about the common room? What kind of food/beverages would be available? A few minutes of this and I'd start to get very sleepy.
I find comfort in knowing this. I actually do this most nights as a way to get to sleep.

Lol, basically. I meant write a new story as in "Not mangle my favourite story" new story, but yea..

You think Falme is this season?
No lol. I guess Mat could get to the Borderlands and meet the others in Fal Dara, but if he didn't want to go with the others to the EotW why would he ride solo to the Borderlands?
I just dont understand the change in Mats story. Like, not much was said about the dagger either iirc, Moraine "heals" him of the daggers taint and done and dusted. In the books he wasn't healed of the dagger until book 3, so now we have mat near the end of season one, nowhere near the EotW or Fal Dara and free of the dagger. I just dont understand what they are doing with this adaptation.. they had a vast amount of source material from an already amazing story.. i dont understand why they are adding all these random bits and pieces instead of just, ya know, following the story?
If they wanted to change it so heavily why not just write a new story?
-
So.. are they going to have Rand blow the HoV at Falme and if so, Wtf is Mat going to do instead of being with the group at the EotW/Hunting the HoV after Fain steals it??
As they are going so far i wouldn't be surprised if they make Egwene the DR and the Amyrlin Seat

Very true. But if the WoT book fans continually rip the show and give it 1 star, the overall ranking will drop. Look at how 1-5 stars is used everywhere now - aren't most people more inclined to go to a 4-5 star restaurant, than a 1-3 star one? Or use a higher rated service/product than a lower rated service/product?
Its sad that i can honestly say that i dont know what would make me feel more sad, the show getting cancelled or the show continuing..

Season 1 Discussion (Full Book Spoilers) v2.1
in Wheel of Time TV Show

Just dont do it? If you have an extensive story of 15 books, just dont tey to cram them into a 6-8 season show. Its like trying to put the square through the circle hole. It just doesn't work unless you cut the square until it isn't a square anymore.
I didn't want The Wheel of Time to not be The Wheel of Time but im afraid thats what is happening. Sure all the characters have familiar names but its the wrong story.
