It's hilarious that despite him having more screen time then anyone else (according to this anyway) he's still one of the least developed characters there is and even stepin got more development.

Like what did you do with all that time?

I'm finding it just sad, to be honest. There are a bunch of payed reviews, where people are applauding the changes, telling how ''first season had a better end then the end of the first book''. How? I knew that changes are coming and I did accept that. But, I didn't expect that writing will be so bad, that even if they form up a really good season 2, they would still need more time to repair the damage from the season 1. And seeing how Rosamund Pike is getting to be involved into the production and her character will be changed the most...I really don't expect much from a season 2.

A complete breakdown of S1 screentime.  Breakdowns by character, gender & episode and so on.   Extremely detailed imho.  Links in the post to all data and episode by episode breakdowns.

When viewing through the lens of all screen time given to all WoT characters - Stepin got less than 3%.

    My favorite revelation:

    • Rand is the top character for solo scenes and duo scenes. He had 10min more duo scenes than Moiraine, and 27min more than Egwene. While it’s okay to be disappointed by his development in the show, especially for those who love book tEotW Rand, it’s factually wrong to say he had no more development than, say, Stepin or another recurring/secondary character (which is an exaggeration I’ve been told quite a few times).

However it is true that Perrin had the least potential for development due to limited # of solo / duo type scenes.   Mat looks like he would have had top 5 screentime if he had not been written out of the last 2 episodes (mostly) due to what occurred.

It really is laughable how people are trying to defend bad writing and production, by saying that a character ''had more time''. Sure, more time means what, when you compare that with the storyline? Means nothing. Even in the episode 8, when we all ''knew'' that Rand is a ''Dragon Reborn'', we had no connection with him. So, when you're trying to defend a poorly written scenario, go from a point that Egwene or Moraine, had a lot more of interaction, based around the story, then Rand had.

I suspect that people have been making excuses for their behaviour for as long as the human race has had the wits to do so.  I certainly can't remember the legendary time you mention.  Have you recently accessed memories of prior lives?

Well, this here, this is new. From a business side, it's all about the costs. From a professional one? It's all about the quality of the product. Not long ago, when someone writes a bad review, you address it, you don't hid behind your ideological construct.

  4. So, not long ago, personal responsibility was a thing. You couldn't go around and hide behind your gender, race or sexuality. Because, people were interested in answers. And then, after few years, everything went sideways. So, can we tell that episode 8 was the worst, without being label as...pick your fighter? Can we say that there was no point in splitting the story around Rand, if you had no idea how to write it? Can we just say that even at this moment, no one real knows how or is Dragon Reborn even a strong character?

    P. S. She isn't there as an fan, she is there as an paid consultant. Meaning what? She is payed for her input. Why isn't she getting to the writers? Dunno.

  5. Let me be late for the discussions, and just say - poorly.

    Lets start from the beginning.

    I) Names are the same, characters aren't.

Meaning what? As long it says Moraine or Lan, people are happy. But, what about Lan being a stoic, a warrior and protector? What about Moraine, having more mystery around her, more a teachers appeal? What about Lan and his fight against the shadow? About Perrin, his connection with wolf's, protecting nature? Rand, his connection with Lan, short. But, his connection with Tom? Mat, his inner demons? Egwein, her connection with family, and reasons why she moved? Nynaeve, her views on the world, fact that she didn't approve sex before marriage? I mean, so much questions. By the way, what about resurrection in the episode 8, or the fact that they are pushing Moraine to stay, as long the project last? And yes, storyline? Nynaeve can't be Dragon Reborn, because she is 2 years older. 2 episodes later? Maybe she is? A woman, not strong enough to be accepted in the White Tower, creates a circle a kills thousands of trolllocs. And your main protagonists? Shooting lasers from his hands. Rand is so poorly written, that I don't really see a point of him being in the season 2.  And yes, didn't they said that Sara Nakamura is in the production team... Doing what? Cookies I think....

  6. We should accept the fact that adaptation  will be different from the books. But, story line should stay the same. I mean, i stay behind the fact that something can be reduced or removed, because there are a lot of conversations in the books and running around, that we don't need. But, removing charters as Zarine or Elayne, Aviendha and Min, because you will go in another direction, will just change the story. Jordan created a world were everything is connected. Were connection are important. Brotherhood, love, anger, despair...everything is a part of that what makes us human.

  7. So, biggest concern from me? That show will be a subliminal manifestation, from the ideological groups. Meaning what? Meaning that they will try to make it more about "empowerment", then about the story. Cast is solid. I love the fact that they gave main role to bunch of new faces, and gave  us experience actors, who can support the young cast and carry the burden of more complicated parts on them. Some things could easily be pushed aside, as the talks about cloth and supporting characters. But, I really don't see a way for Elayne, Aviendha or Min, having different direction or love interest. Because, their love and guidance is what define Rand and his fight. Hope that they don't change that, and that show will be a success.
