  1. First, I hope things are returning to normal. The fact that I've been able to explore the site for the last 10 minutes or so is a good sign. Next, just to add to your information about what has been going on: I'd been trying to access the site since Sunday, December 2nd to buy the next e-book for my WoT reread. Each attempt was stalled at either the page where it was checking my browser or the one saying the site was offline. Generally, no amount of clicking the view live site button would take me to the site. Occasionally, I would get through to the site, only to have go down again when I click to go to another page. This was the way of it from Sunday through Tuesday, December 2nd to the 4th. Today, Wednesday, December 5th I'm finally able to use the site without problem. I was using Safari on my Mac, though a few times I tried Chrome on Windows. (Sadly, in my push to re-read the series, I had to make a purchase from Apple rather than Dragonmount. Next book I plan to buy a bit in advance to avoid any problems.)
  2. Bela -- I'm in almost every scene, but nobody seems to notice.
  3. Well done! You guys are to be congratulated on bringing an ebook store online from scratch. I'm new to ebooks. But I'll be buying whatever I get from you (if you have it). I like the idea of supporting the sci-fi/fantasy community as well as the "little guy." As well as being a BIG FAN of DRM-free digital content. Keep up the great work! Dennis
  4. Just purchased my second book from your site. And I can confirm the ".xhtml" wasn't there. Thanks for fixing it. I'm sure it will be easier on a lot of users to get the correct ".epub" extension.
  5. Stopped by the Dragonmount ebook store again today. This time I searched for Bandon Sanderson's new novella Legion. I was disappointed when it didn't come up in the search results. In fact the books listed in the search results didn't have Legion in their title at all. Poking around a bit I found that it had come up, but that the all results were listed in alphabetical order by title rather than the more natural "best match" that most searches give these days. It looks like the search is a work in progress, so I hate to nit pick. But in case it's not or it's broken, I suggest adding Best Match and Author to the sort options with Best Match being the default. Also, the ability to specify that the text you are searching for is a title, an author, or series. In any case, congratulations on the successful launch of your new ebook store. I plan on buying all my ebooks from you in support of the community and DRM-free books. Keep up the great work!
  6. I liked Huntsman if for no other reason then he has a great, ready made theme song:
  7. Okay, • So I came here from the Tor site to shop at the ebook store. • To buy a book, I had to create an account. No problem. • But no where does it give you the ability to create a user name. It just uses your real name. • Then I discovered the forums (because I wanted to report what I consider weirdness in file names for epubs). The forums use this same username. • I can't edit my username in my account preferences. • I'd really like to use a different username (forum nickname). Therefore: 1 - I think the whole scenario should be different. i.e. you should be given the chance to create a username/nickname when you are creating an ebook store account. 2 - I'd like a way to change the one I've got. Thanks for listening.
  8. Thanks yoniy0 and Red2111 for putting me in my place! :o) Also, good to know the system wasn't just picking on me with the extra ".xhtml" extension. (Sometimes I'm pretty sure the whole interweb is out to get me.)
  9. The Memory of Earth from Orson Scott Card's Homecoming Saga series. I only made it about a third of the way through. The whole "Book of Mormon in Space" idea was too overpowering. If you've never read that book those two nice young men dropped off at your house that day you were trying to catch up on some sleep then it probably wasn't a factor. Having read the original (which was probably pretty good religious fantasy for its day), the sci-fi retelling was unbearable.
  10. I had to force myself to finish Eragon. The "been there, done that" factor was too high. Well told though -- so kudos to a new, young author. But I could never bring myself to read further into the series.
  11. The Da Vinci Code Mr. Brown failed to convince me that the secret the society was keeping was that big of a big deal. A few years later, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Ian McKellen managed to convince me that his character thought it was worth killing for. The book never conveyed that level of emotion to me.
  12. Just a heads up for Mac iPad users. I purchased New Spring from the Dragonmount store. I got a file named "9781429961530.epub.xhtml". In order to install it, I had to remove the ".xhtml" from the end of the file name. Only then was I able to drag the file into the Books pane of iTunes to install the book on my iPad. I don't know if this ".xhtml" file extension comes through when downloaded to other operating systems or other books (maybe it's just a fluke with the one book I purchased). It seems counter-intuitive to have this file extension on the file and I think, if it is standard, it should be reconsidered. Anyway, to install ebooks on the iPad from your Mac: 1. Purchase and download the epub version of the book from the Dragonmount store. 2. Remove the ".xhtml" extension from the file name. You will have to answer a dialog asking what you want. Choose "Use .epub". 3. Launch iTunes. 4. In the Library list on the left of the iTunes window, click on Books. 5. Drag your downloaded file into the Books pane of the iTunes window. 6. Sync your iPad.
