  1. I'm halfway through The Shadows Rising. This is my third read of the WoT series and i'm enjoying this read through just as much as the first two reads. Noticing some little details that I missed out on before or even forgotten.

Also, reading Something Wicked This Way Comes, by Ray Bradbury. On about page 100 at the mo, not really sure what to make of it, it's a bit weird

  2. and reading The Darkness that Comes Before by Bakker although Bakker's book is a bit tedious in reading. A bit boring at the moment, about 70 pages into it.

Stick with it, trust me...Bakker IMO is the most talented fantasy writer out right now.

I've always meant to get round to reading some of Bakkers work.

I'm currently reading Way Of Kings Part 2, I enjoyed Part 1 but not as exciting as I was hoping, though Sanderson is currently 1 of my fave authors as I loved the Mistborn. Read alot of Pratchett since Xmas. I read one of his books a few years ago and it put me off, but started from Bk 1 and I love him. My re-read of WoT is due to start very soon, after I have finished WoK Pt 2

  3. What to read next? Ian Irvines View From The Mirror quartet Book 2 or ASOIAF Book 3?? Both unread sitting on my bookshelf. Ive also got this urge to re-read Legend, by David Gemmell..... erm....

ASOIAF Book 3 it is, hopefully the improvements in Book 2 from Book 1 will continue.

  4. I was surprised by how much screen time Spook got; he really becomes a main character in this book.

Wassing the like is brilliant!! If you've read Mistborn you know what I mean if u havent then that sentence is the biggest load of nonsense you have probably ever read.

  5. I am 550 pages into Mistborn book 2, and while I don't think it's as a good as Book 1 it's still very good. Allomancy rocks!! 1 of my fave magic systems if not my fave

Just read the part where Vin and Zane kill 300 soldiers in 10 minutes, AMAZING!!! But I do miss Kelsier, thought he was great.

Book 2 gets very interesting at the end, and I'll be curious to hear what you think of Book 3 (which was my personal favorite). It moves a little slowly here and there, but it's all worth it for the finale.

If you liked that scene with Vin and Zane, then you're going to love some of the parts coming up too!

I am 100 pages into Mistborn 3 and I wouldnt normally comment on a book after 100 pages but I just have to say poor, poor Sazed

The mans lost his love, and his meaning to life, and hes 1 of my fave characters in the series

  6. I have just finished reading Mistborn 2 this minute. Brilliant ending, full of action. And a great twist. BUT

Elend becomes a Mistborn, hmmmmmmm, not too sure about that. I thought 1 of the biggest reasons his and Vins relationship is so good is because of their differences, the fact that shes a Mistborn, well shes THE Mistborn and he didnt have any powers. Well I shall see how it pans out

  8. My local Waterstones (Brighton, UK) has a great range of fantasy novels. And they always have 3 for 2 offers on them. YAY!! Always walk out with a big bag full of fantasy from there. They all know me there ;). Last time I went they had moved it around but as soon as the shop keeper saw me walking upstairs she immediately pointed to the fantasy sections new home.

  9. I am still reading A Clash Of A Kings, I really havent been able to commit time to reading in the last couple weeks. Enjoyinng it much more than the 1st book, A Game of Thrones.

But, I can now commit my usual amount of time to reading, so with it being pay day weekend I have gone out and "stocked-up".

    1. A Storm of Swords Part 1. Steel and Snow

    2. A Storm of Swords Part 2. Blood and Gold

    3. A Feast for Crows

    Author: George RR Martin

    4. Troy Part 1. Lord Of The Silver Bow

    Author: David Gemmell

    5. Mistborn Part 2. The Well of Ascension

    6. Mistborn Part 3. The Hero of Ages

    Author: Brandon Sanderson

I'm hoping the Martin novels continue to improve as the series goes on. And I'm definitely buying Dnce with Dragons in hardcover as the cover is brilliant. I love the Drenai novels,by David Gemmell, that I have read so I'm hoping the Troy series is just as good. A work mate of mine says they are, so fingers crossed. I thought Mistborn Part 1 was great and loved some of the characters in the book. I am probably looking forward to reading the Mistborn books the most

  10. I'm reading A Clash of Kings now, and page 175 Tyrion says perhaps the greatest line ever when talking to Chataya in the brothel; "If I could pray with my cock, I'd be much more religious." Fricking excellent!!:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I've finally started Gardens of the Moon, Malazon Volume 1! Way overdue for me to read, I'm 80 pages into it and very much enjoying it. The sense of history is evident on every page, and quite a story is being told here

I've heard the Malazan books are good. What are peoples thoughts on them??

  11. finishing Mistborn book 1 "The Final Empire" tonight. Love it. Obviously got my fingers crossed for an epic finish.

Haven't decided if I will be going to the book store tomorrow to buy Mistborn book 2 or if I will stay in and read Clash of Kings. Depends how lazy I feel tomorrow.

Mistborn book 1- Finished. Completed. Done. Brilliant. Fun. Highly enjoyable read, if you like fant READ THIS BOOK!! The magic system is brilliant and the contrast in personalities between the 2 main Allomancers(magic-users) was good to read. Nothing new with them being virtual opposites in personality but I thought Brandon done a great job with Vin and Kelsier. And Kelsier is BRILLIANT. loved his character he's a new addition to my fave characters list and I think I'm going to go and edit my "Fellowship of the Ring" to add him

the Kelsier vs Inquistor scene with the metal flying around and attacking the Inquisitor, before Kelsier chops off his head was amazing and i want to see it in film!!

Couldn't be bothered to go to book store today so looks as if I'm reading Clash of Kings before going to Mistborn Book 2. I quite like switching between series after a book, I find that if read a full series one after the other I can sometimes get bored of the characters even the my faves

  12. finishing Mistborn book 1 "The Final Empire" tonight. Love it. Obviously got my fingers crossed for an epic finish.

  13. Really enjoying wat I have read so far of Mistborn Book 1. Haven't read much yet not had much time with work and that but like what I have read, and the magic system rocks

  14. not entirely sure how to sign-up for RP, i believe i need to sign up to a specific group before writng my bio? i want to join the Red Hand RP group so i think i sign in here.

I understand i need to create a bio giving my characters age, description, skills etc. but if/when i mention previous conflicts and battles in my character's description can I make them up or do i need to use battles that have occurred in the RP world??

After i finish writing my bio where do i post it??

  15. Have decided to read Mistborn Book 1 The Final Empire before reading aSoIaF Book 2. Game of Thrones wasnt quite as good as I expected it to be. It has some very, very good parts(e.g the final chapter, which was brilliant!!), but I didn't find at any point that I needed to read on, and I found Eddard Stark a complete fool, not sure if thats a widespread opinion or not.

Am going to read Mistborn 1 and then decide on which series to complete 1st. Peoples thoughts on Mistborn would b welcome(would prefer no spoilers in any replies  )

  16. Will b finishing of A Game of Thrones tonight. only a few chapters to go. i have 1 thing to say about this series so far; i hope it gets better, Tyrion is the 1 shining light so far

  17. have read the 1st 250 pages of a Game of Thrones. very slow going for me as ive had it since the 11th have spent too much reading time on here

i like how all the chapters are named after whoevers view-point it is going to b from. have never seen it b4 where this occurs for every chapter. 250 pages isn really enough to make much of a comment on the books as alot of characters have been introduced, tho i thnk if the Imp developes into the character im hoping he will b, he might b a possible candidate for my "All Time Fave Chaacters list"

  18. luckers- that does make sense. but he spends most of the other books with mat though :(

and just a side question- a page was torn out of my book, either my 3 yr old or 4 yr old did it haha -- but the page that was torn out is right when mat thom and rand get on bayle's boat. do rand and mat give him the coins moiraine gave them? i vaguely remember something about that but i haven't read tEotW in so long.

they do give him the coins

  19. id be seriously disappointed if Thom DIDNT kill Galldrian, my opinion is that he definitely did. loved the bit where hes leaving the inn in the Cairhien, after his lover/apprentice (cant recall the name) is murdered, with the evil glint in his eye or evil grin however its put. we all knew Thom could look after himself and had courage (1-vs-1 fight against a Fade anybody, with only a set of throwing knives and a gleemans cloak for armour, no? didnt think so) but this showed a ruthless side to him, being an accomplished player of the Game Thom knew exactly what would happen in Cairhien by killing Galldrian, but he did it regardless. i like my good guys who can b ruthless and do things that can wreak havoc to get revenge, i think this part of Thoms character could have been built up, could have led to some interesting scenes, a la Perrin and the Aiel whos hand he chops off when lookin for Faile.

EDIT: this post needs editing, i made a mistake when flicking thru the posts above this 1 and confused Taringail with Galldrian (amatuers mistake!!) andthought people were debating whether Thom killed Galldrian while in Cairhien in tGH. i think every1 agrees Thom killed Galldrian.

  20. i have 3 brand new shiny books bought today. George RR Martins Song of Ice and Fire books 1 and 2 and Brandon Sandersons Mistborn book 1. have heard good things about both series, George RR Martins works are supposedly amazing, havent heard so much on Sandersons but was definitely influenced by the fact he is finishing the WoT novels. what r peoples opinions on these books.

has anybody read Ian Irvine's "The View From the Mirror" quartet?? i have read book 1 and i have books 2 and 3 at home ready to b read. i have actually had books 2 and 3 for about 8/9 months now untouched, the 1st novel of the quartet is good but not great, was just wondering if anybody can tell how good the rest of the series is??

  21. What you dislike most about the series?

having to wait for the final volume!!

and coming on to this site and finding out that "outrigger novels"(with certain characters in the WoT book appearing ater LB) had been announced before the books are finished, essentially telling us that the Light will win. i was hoping that i was finally going to read series of books that finishes with the Dark-side having "ultimate victory". i thought this might happen as when u first read the books there are plenty of twists and turns in the plot and i thought that would be the ultimate twist. and also thought that with the lack of death amongst the good guys i was hoping that would b twisted round in the LB and that there would b an absolute bloodbath.

i know the outriggers coud have been announced years and years ago but i first picked up a WoT novel 18 months ago and started using this site very recently so it is NEWs to me.:angry::angry:  :angry:
