Generally it fits with the upscale of technology.  Sociology shows that more resources and technology don't make people less greedy or scummy.  But they make it a point where the greedy and scummy can amass their wealth without stepping as badly on the little guy.

Look at today and how many people think everything is fine with a few people having all the wealth.  If you asked in a vacuum they probably wouldn't be fine.  But if they have a solid home, and enough to eat and can provide for their kids, they're not really likely to put as much concern on how powerful someone else is.

So, say in the next thousand years someone discovers the one power.  Initially I imagine there'd be an arms race and some rather horrific events.  But over time access to the ability to heal any injury, to push construction through without significant concern or effort?  The ability to adjust weather patterns to prevent major disasters and ensure crops are always reliable?

That'd slowly lead to a utopia.  Utopia lasts long enough and violence would slowly fade away.  Not that it happens at all but just the idea of items specifically for war.

    Yes, that was my point.

    I always thought so ??‍♂️

We probably blew ourselves up or wrecked the planet in the first age

I just always thought people discovered that everything is less miserable when instead of technology infrastructure is depending on One Power, so the civilization changed to the unrecognizable state.

She's right! I read Six of Crows first, which is the sequel to Shadow and Bone. It's still one of my favorite YA reads and is quite unique. Then I read Shadow and Bone, expecting the same quality writing and oh boy -- I have a lot of respect for Leigh Bardugo but whatever she was doing with Shadow and Bone was not great. I barely got through the series because it was pretty rough and relied on some romance tropes I was not fond of... Also there's an entire plot line that has major plot holes and is never properly resolved ?

That said, I haven't seen the show. Is it good?

That was my experience. I even started to review Grisha trilogy, expecting it will be something like Six of Crows. and boy, I was surprised.

Shadow and Bone was in the same situation. The source material was your typical chosen one girl with a mild Love triangle thrown in.

The Show runner had the same challenge to make it unique. And they did. They cleverly introduced an new plotline that ended up making the Show BETTER than the books. So the Shadow and Bone showrunner succeded where Rafe is doing.....averagely

Obviously the difference being Robert Jordan didn´t write the second series set in the same world in which people were most interested anyway.

  5. So far it seems that every episode is stronger than the previous one. In fact, it might be because of name but the opening with Logain reminded me something from possibly Dragon Age (he,he) and the encampment of Aes Sedai was a great setting for both character driven and plot-driven storytelling.

Potential strength of the series to the future for me was really noticeable in the Tinkers scenes. These people aren´t some wonder of worldbuilding  but thanks to the acting  and dialogue, they feel... Real.

I liked Rand/Mat/Thom part probably the least but the horror ending was definitely impressive. Some said Thom suffered by the later introduction but I don´t think so. IMHO he said enough to be memorable.

  6. I guess this show might be a very interesting experience for someone like me who has read only The Eye of The World and about the first two chapters of The Great Hunt. I will really care primarily about good writing, production values and obviously, the escapism. Who knows, it might be the thing that would eventually make me an actual WOT fan!
