    Sadness

You know, a thought occurs to me... FanFiction, will anyone dare? If someone does dare, will they be able to withstand the truckloads of criticism they'll get even if it's good? Just wondering ;)
  2. I'm sad. Only one book left. This epic tale has been a part of my life ever since my pre-teen days. I feel like I know all these characters personally. While I'm excited that the end is in sight, I'm saddened by the loss of no new developments. I understand that these are fictional characters, and that it's a fictional world. I think the saddest part is that people won't be able to be as emotionally invested in the story anymore. Those of us who started reading back in the 90's have had to wait, do rereads, and go over and over tantalizing hints of what may happen. That era is basically at an end now. One year and the final book arrives. Anyone else feel this way, or am I just blurring the line between fantasy and reality? lol
  3. I don't think this is gonna turn out to be the reason, but it makes a lot of sense to me. (Like with the cracked Enigma codes in WW2, which I assume is what you had in mind as well.) I also have a question: Everybody seems to have picked up on something strange going on with Olver. I totally missed that, cause he was always such a minor character to me. What has made everyone so suspicious of him? What am I not seeing? Everyone's freaking because Olver wants to kill the Shaido that killed his father lol :P
  4. Aes Sedai always have plots withing plots that still hide others. My money is on Verin knowing exactly what Mat would do. We have no idea how many letters she delivered. I'm guessing that she was lying about being forced to wait for Mat in that mountain town, (I forgot the name). Remember, Verin knows more about the Black Ajah and Darkfriends than any of the Lightfriends. Perhaps she knew that telling Egwene certain things straight out would've been found out by the shadow. Or maybe someone acting too soon would cause the shadow to change their plans. She may be using the shadow's strategy against them; trying to play both sides. The shadow would have no idea how their plans kept getting frustrated. A black sister who committed suicide to reveal the shadows plans? Preposterous! Darkfriends don't think like that. But if she just dumped everything in Egwene's lap, or not twisted Mat's guts around his oath the shadow would've known they had inside information by Mat and Egwenes actions.
  5. I absolutely love the prophecy threads! :D "In that day, when the One-Eyed Fool travels the halls of mourning..." I think we can all agree that the One-Eyed Fool is Mat. It's been suggested that 'halls of mourning' refer to him in the Tower of Ghenji. However, Mat still had both eyes when he was traveling the halls there. If I may, the color white is the color of mourning in Randland. We can be fairly certain the White Tower isn't just going to give Mat the Horn of Valere. We know that because of his ter'angreal that weaves can't touch him. What about wards and traps set with the OP? I can easily see Mat sneaking into the WT to get it... Like stealing pies from a goodwife's windowsill ;) I had more, but I lost it while I was typing lol. I may have to start keeping notes. Keeping notes about a fictional story lol.
  6. Sometimes, there's nothing more funny than the truth lol. I'm not a big fan of Elayne after this either. In the past, she has shown wisdom beyond her years, but like others have said, the whole forsaken impersonation plan was pretty weak. "HAY!! I have a great idea!!! Nevermind the fact that I'm pregnant and haven't taken the time to actually make a plan. I'm going now!!!" I know she has Min's viewings and all, but still... One thing I've tried to keep in mind though; Throughout the entire series every character has made choices and acted as if they were on an island. No one ever thinks to ask anyone else for any info, or really bothers to consider how it may effect their allies. Is Elayne arrogant? Yes. She did grow up as a princess in a palace after all. She's used to the world bending to please her. Should she be condemned completely because of it? No. She has consistently throughout the series actually been concerned with the well being of others. This book has seen Nynaeve basically brought down a peg or two. Let's hope the last one does the same for Elayne and Egwene. Not completely beaten down, but more in a way that forces them to consider that they don't always know best.
  7. I mean, I can't say 100% positive without interviewing BS, but it sticks out to me. Don't feel bad for me, I am a dumbass most of the time :). I still enjoyed both books (I guess I should say so far for ToM). It doesn't detract any from my enjoyment of the books, just something that I have noticed and thought was appropriate to the comment you made earlier. You can tell by the post count I am fairly new here and don't wanna upset long standing forum members. Lol, I'm fairly new myself! :) The only question I have is why are you posting when you should be reading!?!? XD

    Nakomi

You know, that thought really crossed my mind. I know he says that he can't or won't take part, but he did open the way to Ishy the first time for Rand. If N was the creator, it was more of a nudge than direct assistance. XD Edit: Oh, btw... Nakomi = Bela (can't believe no one saw that yet >.> ) The Bela thing crossed my mind actually but i am trowing myself as the creator thing i am going to Ask B.Sanderson one day But perhaps we are both right We are both right. Bela is the Creator after all :P

  10. While you may be right about not being able to tell which chapters RJ wrote there is a way to tell which one BS wrote, IMO. Any chapter that has two back to back paragraphs of dialogue from the same character, is an BS chapter. RJ rarely had a character give a long exposition without splitting the dialogue by a introspective paragraph or descriptive paragraph. Maybe I'm different but I think I can tell the difference between the two writing styles when I read the chapters. Agreed. But can you really say definitively without a doubt that something wasn't written by RJ? I hope you can't lol. I know me just being able to imagine a shadowy impression of they way RJ may have written things is painful. If you can positively tell the difference, I feel sorry for you :( I promise I'm not trying to be mocking or a smartass. My entire point though, was that what may seem like liberties may actually be the only options possible with the guidelines BS is working under.
  11. Just remembered another great one! "Tell those you serve that I am no longer blind" or something like that. So glad that Rand is still a badass ^^
  12. Just started my reread, but there is one thing that made me laugh and tear up at the same time. "I caught a badger," a familiar voice said. "Want to let it go on the village green?" That line brought the entire series full circle for me. Everything is in flux. It's slowly righting itself before TG. But still, the entire future of everything on the shoulders of 3 farmboys. It was fantastic! :D
  13. Remember what she was thinking before she went through the second time. She felt let down because she didn't gain any knowledge. Then, she specifically tried to read the columns. Before Rand, the columns showed the Aiel what they needed to see. After he basically revealed it, that became unnecessary. Time and time again throughout the entire series T'A'R is linked to ter'angreal that show possible futures or alternate realities. Look at Nynaeves Accepted and Aes Sedai tests. She overpowered the ter'angreal to such an extent that she did what was believed to be impossible. She cheated from the Aes Sedai POV lol. Avi desired a vision that would strain her honor. She touched the columns and tried to figure out their original function. Then she got a vision which was about the worst thing that could happen to the Aiel. Not just the Aiel as a people, but linked to Avi directly. And just like Nynaeve and Egwene's Accepted test, I believe they showed her a vision that included her desires and was flecked with a tiny bit of truth. (See Sharina for Nynaeve and Egwene being the Amyrlin raised from the green without taking the vows.) I have no hard evidence that is what the columns did. I know they showed an accurate past, however it's much easier to read the past than it is the future.
  14. I kind of agree with the OP'r. But think about this: As I was reading ToM, I couldn't help but imagine it the way RJ would have written it. I'm positive the last 2 novels would've been at least 3 if not 4 with RJ behind the pen. BS is basically writing for RJ, and he has to bring all the plot lines to one single point; Tarmon Gaidon. It's true that RJ left written scenes behind, including the ending. So, BS is seeing the characters at their full maturity level that RJ intended. BS has to chronicle the journey to that level. I agree it seems a little forced, but BS is not RJ. No matter how much information RJ left, I highly doubt he left all the nuances and events that would clearly let us see the growth. Therefore, BS is left with; 'Here are the characters in KoD. Here are the characters in these scenes that RJ had written. Make them match and do it in 3 books.' I know that seems pretty cut and dried, and I'm sure there's more to it than that but I believe that's the basic gist of the matter. And BS has done well. I highly doubt there's anyone who can point to the sections that RJ wrote and be %100 positive and accurate that he wrote them. Anyway, I'm rambling now lol. I guess my point is that there are bound to be hiccups and that most of us are emotionally tied to the characters after reading the series for so many years, so we'll notice the little differences. But in the end, BS does pass everything through Harriet and Maria, and that makes me feel a whole lot better about it. :)
  15. tEotW was in a box of random books my aunt gave me when I was 14. Been hooked ever since!
  16. That's a good point 0.0 Omg, now I'm sad... there's always somebody cool dying off at the end of series like this... ><
  17. I spit mountain dew all over the place when I read this lol
  18. Inorite? :) And how she squeaks and sniffs and pulls on her braid as they each tell Rand they love him back. Awesomeness. "Rand Al'Thor, you apologize right now!" Hilarious. If you watch Bleach, watch the scene where Ichigo fights Byakuya for the first time. Byakuya gets a look on his face that is exactly how I pictured Nynaeve's and Lan's in this scene lol.
  19. lol, I was just going to post this exact scene. Nynaeve's reaction to Rand when he tells all 3 that he loves them is priceless!
  20. Neck and neck with the borderlanders coming South to talk to Rand. Seriously, WTF? You leave the front lines stripped of a couple hundred thousand of the best warriors with no way of getting them back quickly if trouble comes up? This may be the plotline that I have the most problems with. The Blight was eerily quiet for the last 2 years and idle hands are Shai'tans workshop XD
  21. Finally, time to tell what I would do. :D This is just post tGS btw. So I'm at home reading tGS when all of a sudden, a gateway opens in the middle of the room. I freak out of course, but then I hear a voice. "GO, HELP THE DRAGON REBORN." Who's gonna argue with a voice like that? I step through the gateway, and as soon as I'm through, I'm dressed in the clothes of Randland, with a sword on my hip just outside of Tear. Oddly, I know how to channel and use the sword as if I had been doing both for years. I waste no time and finding Rand, and I'm able to meet him by having the Aiel tell him that I know of his trek through the night with a fevered Tam, and of the merchant woman he "met" on his way to Tear for the first time. Of course, Rand is a little suspicious, even after his epiphany on DM, so I tell him that his story is told where I'm from, that's it's not finished yet, and what he did at the end of tGS. I tell him that I think the Creator brought me here to help and that I can channel and use the sword. Min has her viewings and confirms all of it. The first thing I'd tell him is that there are things I know that are only for the persons ears that concern them. I'd fill him in on his link with Moridin, give him the dirty on Taim and the BT, and about the WT being whole again. I'd ask him if it was ok if I went and talked to Mat, Perrin, and Egwene because they need vital info and straightening out lol. I'd suggest that after I return he let me take Logain, (who could be in charge so he wouldn't whine), and some AS to take care of Taim. As I'm still not sure that Taim isn't Moridin, the goal would be to capture him, not kill him. Then I'd get permission to raid the storeroom below the Stone and find a couple angreal for Rand and me ;) After that, I'd head straight away to Perrin, since he seems about ready to have a breakdown. I'd tell him that I know about the wolves and the wolfdream, and that I could find somebody to help him, but not who until after I'd talked to them. (Egwene) Then off to Mat. After teasing him about being married (lol), I'd have him get his butt to Rand and tell him about his marriage to Fortuona so they could work out a plan of forming some kind of alliance with the Seanchan. I'd also make sure he didn't tell Rand anything about Moiraine, no sense getting his hopes up since I don't know how that part ends. :P And I'd tell him how to cheat in the ToG. Now the hard part. I'd Travel to TV, go to the WT, and request an audience with Egwene. I'd say I come from the DR and suggest that they shield me so they'll relax and actually listen. I'd be respectful, calling her Mother and whatnot. When in Rome, right? I'd ask her to weave a ward against eavesdropping around us and bind me with air so I could talk to her one on one with the 13 other AS shielding me. I'd even offer to take a vow against lying on the OR if she promised to release me from it after I was done. I'd fill her in on what was really going on in the world, and ask her to teach Perrin about TAR. Then I'd tell her all about the BT and ask her to have a lot of AS help Logain and I take it. Huge circles to suppress any resistance from every side ;) After that, back to Rand, pick up Logain, go take back the BT, capture Taim, leave Logain in charge of the BT, and back to Rand again. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'd get permission from the others to tell Rand their "secrets" so I could fill him in completely. There was much more detail in my head, but I think way faster than I can type lol. I hope no one thinks I'm crazy, it's just my job involves long periods of doing absolutely nothing and I have to pass the time somehow. :P
  22. That sir, is gold! XD lol I'm not sure what to expect of Rand after VOG. He's remembered so many past lives that there's no way he can go back to being just "Rand". But I'm pretty sure Dark Rand is gone. I did have a lot more to this theory, but I'm only on my first cup o joe and can't put it into words :P
  23. Yeah, cos executing criminals is so civilised...! ;) Well, it keeps things civilized anyway XD lol
