  1. I think Hurin is affected by her beauty as well-- he stares at her the same way Rand does, he blurts out secrets in front of her, he grins at her obsessively (chapter 16 of TGH)-- all things that I've heard flustered men do. :P Rand is what, around 19 at this point? And Loial is about the equivalent of that age, too? I think generally guys don't have that kind of tongue-tied reaction past 15.  ::) Hurin is a decent married Shienarian, as well, not exactly the type to ogle a woman.

Anyways... it seems like she has the kind of beauty that you only hear about in stories, but never see in real life. We know she wanted power, and who has more power over men than an astoundingly beautiful one?

    Just some thoughts.

  2. Apologies if this has been asked and answered already, or if it is blaringly obvious; I just can't seem to remember.

Do we know why Thom is in Emond's Field in The Eye of the World? Certainly, a gleeman was hired by the Village Council for Bel Tine, but is it just pure coincidence? Was he just in Baerlon by chance at the right time? Or does he have some deeper motive/ understanding/ reason to be there.

  3. If it indeed is our world/planet that is supposed to be the First Age and it has been ages before us, shouldn't there be some traces we would've found with the technology we have? Especially since we can actually date the age of our planet.

It's a work of fiction, supposedly with some direct connections to this time/reality. That's why there are inconsistencies.

Um, I have to agree, the Wheel of Time is fiction. We wouldn't be able to find relics of a past age, because, uhm, they don't exist. I'm pretty sure RJ didn't have access to some secret fountain of knowledge.

    ..... ?

  4. Yeah, the first time I actually discussed the books with someone else, we pronounced the words/ names completely differently.  ;D But I have trained myself to say some of them according to the glossary... I think.... Wait. Am I imagining things, or did the old books have pronunciations in the glossary?

    Nynaeve: nigh-nev

    Egwene: ig-wain

    Aiel: aye-eel

I always said Moiraine as 'more-ayne,' and Tear changes each time, haha (between a tear you cry and something you tear). And I just don't say Siuan's name. That one is the hardest for me. Swan? See-you-ann? Whaaa?

Oh! and Faile! I called her 'fail' for the longest time, but I think it's supposed to be fay-eel, or something like that.

Also, how do you guys say cuendillar?

    here's a good'un ... moe-GED-ee-un or early on by one or the other I can't recall... mo-guh-DEEN

Hahahah. That is absolutely not what I had going on-- more like, mog-hee-dee-an.
