  1. Here's an interesting thought. Being stilled or gentled is described in all the glossaries as being done by an Aes Sedai--which means the knife-sharp weave described by Nynaeve. So what you are speaking of when you speak of people who can still sense the source are people who were severed by the knife-sharp weave. Rand 'stilled' Ronaille, Sashelle and Irgain by crushing flows they were holding in fists of spirit, thereby overstressing their ability. For all that he is described to have 'stilled' them because he did it to them, what he did has no resemblance to the the methodology of 'stilling' cited to result in people still being able to sense the Source.
I only ever hear about the ability to overstress someone else's channeling ability on forums. Is it from the BWB?

The problem I have with the scene from the end of LoC is that Rand is viewing everything through some kind of "sixth sense" channeling perception, locked in a box and unable to visualize things the normal way. Crushing a point in fists of spirit could be the same as finely cutting through a larger-dimensional object, just viewed differently.

  2. The balefire thread has no posts since March and I don't want to necro it. So I figure I'll ask here. Is there any commentary reconciling this balefire inconsistency?

Balefire is more than Fire and Air:

    TITLE: A Crown of Swords

    CHAPTER: 41 - A Crown of Swords

His hands rose, and he wove balefire. Began to weave it. Someone else's cheek stung from a remembered slap, and Cadsuane's voice hissed and crackled in his head like the holes the red filaments had made. Never again, boy; you will never do that again. It seemed that he heard Lews Therin whimpering in distant fear of what he was about to loose, what had almost destroyed the world once. Every flow but Fire and Air fell away, and he wove as he had seen. A thousand fine hairs of red blossomed between his hands, fanning out slightly they shot upward. A circle of the ceiling two feet across fell in stone chips and plaster dust.

Balefire is only Fire and Air:

    TITLE: The Gathering Storm

CHAPTER: 47 - The One He Lost

Screaming at them all, he wove threads of Air and Fire. Lews Therin howled in his head, saidin tried to destroy both of them, and the quiet voice inside Rand's heart vanished.

The prick of light grew in front of Rand, sprouting from the center of the access key. The weaves for balefire spun before him, and the access key grew brighter as he drew in more power.

  3. Wikipedia's entry on eye color doesn't mention violet at all, and the talk page is heavily against violet being anything more than a myth. Of course due to vagueness in our language, you could call something between blue and gray violet if you like.

If you really think you have evidence to the contrary, a reliable primary or secondary source, you should get Wikipedia changed.

  4. Does the fact that Semirhage wanted to cause Rand pain before leaving with him, while still in the middle of his entourage, count as a screw up or not?
Well it's certainly in-character for her. She's a sadist, and couldn't resist her sadistic impulses in the AoL even when it got her in a great deal of trouble. The only problem I have with it in this case is that she'd probably be able to resist, and just get Rand kidnapped asap, if that's what Shadar Haran told her to do.
