  1. Just two things, Barid.

First, what made you think the a'dam and Sad Bracelets were made in the AoL? I'm not completely sure about the DB (the first copy was cuendillar, so perhaps it was?), but we know when the a'dam came to be.

Secondly, reread LTT's reaction to Rand's channeling the TP, and tell me if you think he ever touched it himself. I guess it's funny to talk of LTT like a real person; Tell me if Rand has ever touched it before, that he remembers.

  2. I'm curious, is there anyone who actually seriously enjoys Perrin as a character? Forget all the analysis and literary commentary, does anyone actually turn the page when reading WOT and go 'awesome, a Perrin chapter!'?

Good point. I never did, though most of the time I forget my disappointment and become immersed in the story a short time afterwards.

On the other hand, we know Brandon does. He said Perrin was his favorite character.

  3. There is only way that Rand could have known that the Guardian didn't block True Power = he could sense it while inside the G's area of influence.

There is another way - LTTs memories, which Rand has full access to in TOM.

Well, the Guardian wasn't in Far Madding back before the Breaking, so this relies on LTT's having some other way of knowing about it. But it's possible, I guess.

That something is a popular theory among the fans here does not necessarily make it true...#lextaimandred

    God knows that's true

  4. I agree. Little baby-Amyrlin-Egwene was sooo cute in Ravens. You can feel the ambition coming off her in waves. However, I don't think Perrin's your typical run-of-the-mill reluctant hero. Rand fills that role better - he reluctantly accepts the yoke of responsibility when it's thrust upon him. Perrin, on the other hand, shrieks from it. He allows his followers to come along, and actually does expect their obedience when he wants something, but he doesn't feel obligated to lead when they need him. It is refreshing in the sense that's it definitely isn't a cliché, I guess.

  5. Well, yeah, though I never disliked Perrin. His growth was a bit heavy-handed in ToM, but you really can't fault RJ for that.

However, he's far from the only example of personal growth in the books. Rand, you talked about, though in his case it was mostly personal decay . But both Nynaeve's and Egwene's arcs show a lot of maturing, and coming to think about it, so does Siuan's, and Moiraine's (although her story was always shrouded in mystery, so it was much subtler). I don't mean that we see them being more mature, but that we can actually see the changes happen from their perspectives (again, with Moiraine it's mostly hinted at by the things she says and does). Truly, RJ's characters are what makes tWoT what it is.

  6. And if this is considered too inappropriate, I apologize, but did they, well, "go at it" after?

No, I don't think so. At the beginning of that scene, Talanvor kneels down by her bed, and she heard him getting close. We have enough information about their positions during the discussion to eliminate that kind of activity  There's simply not enough time.

There, that's the best I can do to keep our PG13 rule and address your question at the same time.

Who are the 3 dead Chosen that Shadar Haran blames Graendal for?

    Mesaana, Ara'angar, & ______

    Asmodean.

  7. which is strange since she ain't no longer DotNM now.

This has been discussed here before. She isn't the DotNM anymore, true, she's the Nine Moons now. Which is one of the reasons why their first meeting was bound to fail - he couldn't yet bind her.

BTW is there any other prophecy that uses the word 'bind'?

Not really, unless you count this one:

In sackcloth and ashes shall he clothe the people,

and he shall break the world again by his coming,

tearing apart all ties that bind.

  8. sorry man, if someone is on this thread, everything has been spoiled, if they are on this forum, everything can be spoiled, (this isn't structured general or any other spoiler proof forum, i wouldn't post there) spoiler tags are useful, but they don't mean much on this thread. but to correct your message, i didn't ask, and i didn't care. this thread even says full spoilers.

I didn't say you were under an obligation not to spoil him. As far as our rules are concerned, this board is indeed open for talk about every published WoT book. When we apply a 'no-spoiler' policy to a board, spoilers aren't allowed even inside a spoiler environment - so an open board is the only place in which they are useful.

What I did say is that this policy doesn't mean we shouldn't be considerate to fellow DMers. If someone's post reflects the possibility that they haven't read the series through, it's just good manners to make sure before you spoil them. In this, tags are helpful - they can decide for themselves whether to read your answer or not.

This isn't me telling you what to do; I'm simply asking.

  9. His luck might not have started there, but as far as I can remember there are no earlier instances of it. Correct me if I'm wrong

There are a few earlier instances, with lesser intensity. Here's one:

Mat tossed the dice back into the semicircle as he stepped out, and one of the men called, "Here, southlander, you can't quit while you're winning. "

"Better than when I'm losing," Mat said with a laugh. [...]. "You'll have another chance to win it back." Wry snorts from the kneeling men indicated they did not think there was much chance of that.

  10. Yes, RJ said (and this is very nearly verbatim) that Mat's luck wasn't a gift from Lanfear, although in some ways it is the DO's own luck. After being asked about that ter'angreal. So while we don't actually see Lanfear with that ter'angreal, it might've been an AS answer, in the sense that Mat's luck has something to do with the ter'angreal, but it wasn't Lanfear who used it. Or they might indeed be unrelated.

Regardless, Mat has had better-than-average luck since TEotW, and it has improved during TGH. It didn't reach a truly exceptional level until he fled TV, though.

  11. There is one reference somewhere to the fact that Suian started having periods again after she was Stilled, along wiht losing Agelessness.

    Can you quote this?

Hey boss, how are things? Red's post made me drop in here, and I caught this. I think we actually talked about this once. If I'm not mistaken, this is it:

Leane, on the other hand, in true Aes Sedai fashion embraced what had changed. A young woman again— Egwene had overheard a Yellow exclaiming in wonder that both were prime childbearing age, by everything she could find—she might never have been Keeper, never have had any other face.

Short question: Can someone tell me what's the total count of days past from day one in 2R all the way up to FoM?

    See here and here.

  12. Actually, this is the exact moment she learned of Gaebril's true identity and what he's done to her:

Perrin nodded, waving for another cup of warmed tea. "Rand said it was Rahvin, though I was in the Two Rivers when the battle happened." The colors swirled in Perrins head. "Rahvin was impersonating one of the local noblemen, a man named Gabral or Gabil or some such. He used the Queen--made her fall in love with him, or something--and then killed her."

A serving tray hit the ground with a muted peal.

Graendal sent the dreadlords & trollocs in the south; who sent the dreadlords in the Blight?

Were both groups from the same location or from different locations?

Do you mean those in Maradon? We don't know.

  13. Everything's possible in a few centuries, but right now they are still a backwater. They have new exports and a growing population, but it would take some time before they can truly be as prosperous as the rest of Andor.

Of course, Perrin's connections to Ghealdan and Saldea grant the area a political power that's unconnected to their population or resources. Except that the TR isn't actually his right now, it's Rand's. And Rand's power dissolves the moment TG is over, most likely (I'm discounting the Aiel; who knows what will happen with them).

    PS

200k is the total of Andor's strength, without bands of mercenaries. That's just Houses' guardsmen and the Queen's Guard.

  14. I'd wear a 'Moiraine for Queen' badge, if it weren't for the fact that she seems to dread the possibility more than the very end of the world (well, that's not fair. She never stopped having nightmares about Rand in NStN, she just started having new ones as well).

Or - possibly - Lanfear.. who knows how the Bore was made.

That's actually a very neat idea. Quite the twist. You have my vote, just for the fun of it.

  15. I've seen some people interpret that as Min having had a viewing of Rand's needing a dead woman. I don't think that was the intention; I think she was remembering a viewing she had about Rand needing Moiraine, and attaching her own preconceptions on it. I guess that would work equally well for any woman whom Rand might need, anyone who Min believes dead, but Occam's Razor suggests we needn't look further than Moiraine.

  16. That Black the wondergirls caught in Tear (I'm fairly certain one was Stilled and one wasn't, right?) was apparently under the influence of the Oath against betraying the Shadow's plans. I think the BA hunters also commented on how the ones they caught wouldn't reveal anything unless they were made to remove their Oaths, but I don't remember exactly when that came up.

    EDIT:

Oh, no, that was the Black that Nynaeve and Elayne had the Namelle sisters question, wasn't it?
