ABC Schedule - Most new shows

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.

 

With one strong reality performer ("Dancing with the Stars"), one solid light procedural ("Castle"), one acclaimed comedy ("Modern Family"), one decent rated comedy ("Cougar Town"), and two former flagship sudsers past their best buy date ("Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy"), the Alphabet is in need of hits to fill some big gaps in its schedule.

 

Only two shows last season survived and both are modest raters at best - meaning this year the network is trying out thirteen new shows, easily more than any other, in their efforts to score hopefully a few hits. Seven of them will launch in the Fall and six more around mid-season.

 

The network is keeping most of its returning shows in the time slots people are used to, so these new shows will have to swim in slots that have generally seen failures in recent years - it's a risky move.

 

Amongst the more notable new shows are the Christina Ricci-led 60's-set "Pan Am", the reboot of the "Charlie's Angels" franchise, a Hamptons-set take on the 'Count of Monte Cristo' story called "Revenge", the Amazon-set mystery pseudo-doco series "The River", and the Ashley Judd-led limited series thriller "Missing" which literally began production this week in Croatia. One sitcom originally had the best title of any new show this Fall - "Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23", one that was unfortunately shortened to just "Apartment 23".

 

As per usual, several high profile pilots didn't make it. These include "Poe", an 1840s-set crime procedural following a young Edgar Allan Poe (Chris Egan) solving disturbing murders; the remake of the recent British identity theft-themed procedural "Identity"; the family of dancers drama "Grace" starring Eric Roberts; the procedural drama "Partners"; and Marc Cherry's spiritual soap "Hallelujah".

 

Onto the new shows and they are:

 

 

Charlie's Angels

(Action/Drama, Thursdays 8pm)

Abby is a Park Avenue princess and world-class thief, Kate is a local cop who lost her career and fiancé, and Gloria is a disgraced army lieutenant - all are now working a private investigators for the mysterious boss Charlie Townsend.

 

When Gloria is killed on a mission, Charlie persuades them to take on a new partner - Gloria’s childhood friend Eve, a street racer with a mysterious past. Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Ramon Rodriguez star in this Miami-set new take on the 1970s smash hit series.

 

 

Last Man Standing

(Comedy, Tuesdays 8pm)

A successful outdoor sporting goods store marketing director loves to have adventures while he’s traveling for work. He's the odd man out in a home that is dominated by women including his wife and three daughters.

 

With his wife having returned to the work place and being quickly promoted, he is pulled into more hands-on parenting than ever before. Tim Allen, Nancy Travis, Molly Ephraim, Alexandra Krosney, Kaitlyn Dever and Hector Elizondo star.

 

 

Man Up!

(Comedy, Tuesdays 8:30pm)

Three modern men try to get in touch with their inner tough guys and redefine what it means to be a “real man” in a world of manscaping and pomegranate body wash. One is more interested in white collar trappings and getting his son gifts than doing his job.

 

Another pines for his college ex, and the third is a sensitive guy with anger issues who becomes disgruntled when his ex dates a man the polar opposite of him. Christopher Moynihan, Mather Zickel, Dan Fogler, Teri Polo, Amanda Detmer and Henry Simmons star.

 

 

Once Upon a Time

(Fantasy/Drama, Sundays 8pm)

A 28-year-old female bounty hunter is visited by the now 10-year-old son she gave away, a son who believes she comes from an alternate world and is Snow White and Prince Charming’s missing daughter. Taking him back home to a strange New England town, she soon suspects it is more than it seems.

 

It’s a place where fairytale characters are alive, even though they don’t remember who they once were. The epic battle for the future of all worlds is beginning, but for good to win, Emma will have to accept her destiny and fight like hell. Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Robert Carlyle, Lana Parrilla, Jamie Dornan, Jared Gilmore, Josh Dallas and Raphael Sbarge star.

 

 

Pan Am

(Soap, Sundays 10pm)

It's the 1960's and Pan Am is the biggest name in the air travel business. The planes are glamorous, the pilots are rock stars and the stewardesses are the most desirable women in the world. They’re trained to handle everything from in-air emergencies to unwanted advances – all without rumpling their pristine uniforms or mussing their hair.

 

Passion, jealousy and espionage all mesh in this drama full of sexy entanglements between a cocky and ambitious new pilot, and stewardesses that include a rebellious bohemian, a runaway bride, and a beauty with a past. Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner, Karine Vanasse, Margot Robbie, Jonah Lotan and Michael Mosley star.

 

 

Revenge

(Drama, Wednesdays 10pm)

Emily Thorne is new to the Hamptons. She’s met some of her wealthy neighbors, has made a few new friends and seemingly blends into the town. But something is a little odd about this young girl, you see this was her old neighborhood until something bad happened that ruined her family and their reputation.

 

Now Emily is back, and she’s returned to right some of those wrongs in the best way she knows how – with a vengeance. Madeleine Stowe, Emily Van Camp, Gabriel Mann, Henry Czerny, Ashley Madekwe, Nick Wechsler, Josh Bowman, Christa B. Allen and Connor Paolo star.

 

 

Suburgatory

(Comedy, Wednesdays 8:30pm)

Single father George only wants the best for his 16-year-old daughter, Tessa. So when he finds a box of condoms on her nightstand, he moves them out of their apartment in New York City to a house in the suburbs.

 

But all Tessa sees is the horror of over-manicured lawns and plastic Franken-moms. Being in the ‘burbs can be hell, but it also may just bring Tessa and George closer than they’ve ever been. Jeremy Sisto, Jane Levy, Carly Chaikin, Allie Grant, Alan Tudyk and Cheryl Hines star.

Apartment 23

(Comedy, Mid-Season)

After a naïve Midwestern girl moves to Manhattan for a dream job and the perfect company apartment, only to have them disappear due to the economy. Deep in debt and out on the streets, June scrambles to land a job and place to live. She's soon hired at a coffee shop and finds a charming, vivacious roommate who initially tries to swindle her.

 

Getting her own back and winning the roommate's respect, she finds herself joining a dysfunctional, bizarre and overwhelming band of friends. Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker, Eric André, Michael Blaiklock and James Van Der Beek star.

 

 

Good Christian Belles

(Soap, Mid-Season)

Once the ultimate high school “mean girl,” Amanda Vaughn returns home in disgrace after her marriage ends in scandal. Amanda is nothing like the girl she was twenty years ago, but as her old classmates reacquaint themselves with the new Amanda, will her home town welcome her with open arms or seek revenge?

 

As Amanda and her teenage kids try to adjust to their new lives, the ladies from her past alternate between sympathy and scheming. Leslie Bibb, Kristin Chenoweth, Annie Potts, Jennifer Aspen, Miriam Shor, Marisol Nichols, Brad Beyer, Mark Deklin and David James Elliott star.

 

 

Missing

(Drama, Mid-Season)

Ten years after her CIA agent husband was slain, suburban mother Becca Winstone reluctantly agrees to let her teenage son, Michael, study abroad. A few weeks into his trip, Michael disappears, and Becca immediately suspects foul play. When she arrives in Rome, she begins piecing together the clues left behind.

 

It isn’t long before the kidnappers realize they’ve picked a fight with the wrong woman as she was also a lethal CIA Agent, one that will have to rely on old friends and reopen old wounds. Ashley Judd, Sean Bean, Cliff Curtis, Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman and Tereza Voriskova star.

 

 

The River

(Drama/Mystery, Mid-Season)

Famed explorer and TV personality Dr. Emmet Cole went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. Six months after he vanished, his estranged son Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole’s emergency beacon suddenly goes off.

 

Setting off in search of his father, he lets Cole’s cagey ex-producer and his mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances film the mission documentary-style so he can get the funding he needs to take the treacherous journey. Bruce Greenwood, Joe Anderson, Paul Blackthorne, Paulina Gaitan, Leslie Hope, Eloise Mumford, Shaun Parkes, Thomas Kretschmann and Daniel Zacapa.

 

 

Scandal

(Political Drama, Mid-Season)

A former media relations consultant to the President, Olivia Pope dedicates her life to protecting and defending the public images of our nation’s elite. After leaving the White House, the power consultant opened her own firm, but she can’t seem to completely cut ties with her past.

 

Slowly it becomes apparent that her staff, who specialize in fixing the lives of other people, can’t quite fix their own. Kerry Washington, Henry Ian Cusick, Columbus Short, Guillermo Diaz, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, Tony Goldwyn and Jeff Perry star.

 

 

Work It

(Comedy, Mid-Season)

This high-concept comedy centers on two unrepentant guy’s guys - a quick-witted and likable family man, and a single, hot-headed ladies’ man with no filter. Both, unable to find work, dress as women to get jobs as pharmaceutical reps.

 

Not only do they pull it off, but they might just learn to be better men in the process. Ben Koldyke, Amaury Nolasco, Beth Lacke, John Caparulo, Rebecca Mader, Rochelle Aytes, Kate Reinders, Kirstin Eggers and Kacie Lynch star.
