why is the book so big

i'm not talking about word count, the more words the better, but why is it so thick, i mean i think it is the 4th longest book but it is HUGE compared to the others. i think lord of chaos is the longest and ToM seems to be twice as big i just dont see the reason to make it so big.

Lord of Chaos had much smaller font. It was only 720 pages in hardcover, but had a higher word count than ToM. I think they decided to use font that is a bit easier on the eyes this time.
