IIRC, RJ himself said he wrote the Children as an organization to be something of a cross between the Spanish Inquisition and the Nazis, so I'd say the comparison is a valid argument and not a devolution of this thread a la Godwin's law. Galad first became introduced to the lofty ideals of the Children by reading the founder's book -- who had himself envisioned the Children as more of a priesthood than a global military organization that goes around putting the screws to anyone they feel like.

I think he did say that. But the comparison is still wrong. The Nazis and the children are not substantially similar. And WOT's post was not in anyway about explaining how they are similar. It was all about condemning Galad's decision. So I think Godwin's still applies.

Putting screws to anyone they feel like... This is a perfect description of the leadership of almost any country in the west lands. In book 1, Elaida threatens Rand with being put to the question for a trivial offence and after thinking it over... Morgase decides to spare him -- she could have decided the other way -- if she felt like it. Tairen and Cairheinin nobles atrocities are common place in the books -- too numerous to mention. We see Perrin himself use torture with the approval of the rest of his entourage. The Aes sedai torture Rand. The Aiel also put the screws to whomever they wish.

I haven't read the prologue, I'll wait for the book but after reading what's been posted about Perrin I'm wondering, could Hopper be trying to keep him from going "outside" of the pattern? If Perrin could somehow master this then he could be the one that takes out Fain just in time to save Rands life the second time. I still think he's leaning toward the 'way of the leaf' and finding the song but maybe the song could be used to counter Fains 'dark powers'!

I apologize if this isn't the right place for this but with all the dislikings of Perrin's character I can't help but feel that he will do something great. At least I hope so.
