Why Do People Like "The Da Vinci Code"?

I know that just because something is mainstream doesn't mean it's bad. I like Harry Potter, and that's incredibly mainstream. 4 movies and merchandising is what I call mainstream, but I like it because I picked it up before it went mainstream. Same with the Beatles. I started listening to them long after they dropped out of mainstream media.

 

It's a biased that prevents me from reading/watching crappy books/movies. And so far it's worked. The only time I'll read a mainstream book is if I hear certain friends of mine recommending it. And the only way I'll watch a mainstream movie is if I hear those same friends saying it's going to suck.
