Music and The Wheel of Time

Hi there!

 

I just recently heard, and bought!, a CD called Songs of the Unforgiven by the somewhat strange band Crash Test Dummies. One of the tracks in this album is titled "The Unforgiven Ones" and I just felt that it was totally perfect for the Wheel of Time! I haven't analyzed the lyrics too much but it fits! It's a great song with a brooding feel to it and as such fits the darker tone of the WoT. It also may sound like the prophecies in the Wot.

 

(This is just a a quick interpretation sprung out of my head, of the lyrics and they have of course nothing to do with the WoT.)

 

The first part of the song ending with (quote)"the ones who are yet to be" (end quote) reminds me of the circular time in the WoT.

 

The second part about the sinners and the ones who repent make me think of darkfriends and those who step back into the light, like Ingtar.

Those who don't could be the Forsaken. And the unforgiven ones could possibly mean innocent people caught in the fighting between light and darkness.

 

And the ones with heart of a saint and the one with a heart black as night

could mean The Dragon(Rand/Lews Therin) and Ishamael(Elan Morin).

 

But any suggestion would be fine as there are sure to be other things in the WoT that may fit with the lyrics of this song.

 

Any one else got any ideas?

Interesting thoughts! I'll listen to the song some more and also read the lyrics. ;) But the Unforgiven Ones felt like The Forsaken. ;) I'll be back!

I'll listen to it when I get home, Im at work being sly with the internet at the mo. Heres a few.

 

Pretender by Foo Fighters. Oh my God, if this isnt Rands song he doesnt have one and never will. Look up the words first and then listen to it. References to Aes Sedai lies (conveniently at the start-Moiraine) Rand not being a false Dragon, Lews Therin in Rands head, images of Moridins face, Rand losing his hand, the Dragon being spun out by the Wheel.

 

Also, look up the words to Pendulous Threads (how Wheel of Time does that sound) by Incubus. Please, though, if youre guna look up the words, after you spot the Wheel of Time references listen to the song, its a top track. It makes me think of a song the Dark One would sing to Rand-talking to him as an ally of sorts even though he isnt, like how Moridin thinks of Rand. The first few lines sumarise Rands situation very well:

 

On a burning bridge your

options are minimal at best

depending on where you're standing

and how much breath is in your chest.

 

Does that last bit sound like Borderlander talk to anyone else or is it just me?
