IC: Anwashawn had been training for just over a month now and his skill was starting to develop. The training was tougher than he'd expected, and progression came slower than he'd hoped, but his determination saw him through. He'd started this day much like any other, with a fitness routine that was now a force of habit, something his body would begin most mornings without conscious thought.

This fitness routine was slightly different than what his mentor Corin had originally assigned him. Not that he'd lessened his assignment, he had in fact added to it, incorporating swimming to keep a slim tone on the muscles he was developing, and also working in some additional sword work. He started the morning before dawn running the laps Corin said to with the exercises mixed in, proud that he could now do all of the pushups, situps, and pullups, and run the full circuit without falling.

After that he went through the sword forms his mentor had shown him. He went through all the forms with his right hand, then went through them a second time with his left, and then a third time trying to incorporate both blades at once as he had seen others in the yards doing. This was still not something he was comfortable with, as the blades kept colliding instead of working together, but it was coming along.

After his sword work he would go to the pond and swim laps, trying to add to the stamina that he'd developed in his younger days. He swam several laps in each of the four strokes his foster father had taught him, the breaststoke, butterfly, backstroke, and crawl. This was his favorite time of the day. He pushed himself just as hard in the water as he did with the running, if not harder, but he just seemed more at ease in the water. In the water he could let his mind wander in on itself while his body pushed harder and harder. This was also the easiest portion of his routine to hold onto the Spring that Rosheen had taught him.

He had to wake well before dawn to get all this done and still have time for breakfast before meeting with Corin each day, but it was worth it. Already he could feel himself getting stronger, and his stamina and endurance had increased as well. Each day Corin found flaws in his sword work, but he was proud that the number of flaws was obviously decreasing. They also spent some time each day working with the bow and with his knives, and he was pleased with his progress there as well.

For some reason Corin had not cared to explain to him, his time with his mentor today was markedly shorter than usual. Not that he was complaining or anything, it just left him with time on his hands that he wasn't used to having. He went back to his room and tried to relax but his body had gotten used to being pushed constantly and he quickly grew restless there. Now, just as the sun was setting, he had decided to go back out to the yards to practice his forms some more.

OOC: Varligen, this would be where you come in. Just introduce Natan to Anwashawn and then, if you want to you, can challenge him to spar. Kross, you can either strike up a conversation about training or challenge him to spar, your choice. After a post or two for introductions/discussion we'll get things started.

OOC: I'm really sorry it took me so long.

IC: Natan had had a rough morning of training and was gonna get a quick nap when he realized how hungry he was. He quick ran to the mess hall and grabbed some lunch. As he left the hall he remembered he left his spear leaning against a tree in the yard. He quickly ran out there to grab it before going back to his room. He walked casually out there not wanting to burn to much of the energy he was already lacking. Looking from tree to tree he finally found it by another trainee working on his sword forms. Not really wanting to attract the guys attention he slipped through the trees until he reached the one his spear was leaning on. He paused to watch the guy as he grabbed his second sword and started working the forms with both of them.

He decided it was time to go and went to grab his spear. However he was still watching the guy and only tapped the spear sending it falling at the guy. Natan quickly jumped out and grabbed at the spear catching it in his left hand. However, it had already fallen too far and the guys swords were going to block the "attacking" spear. The two swords hit Natan's spear right around his hand. As Natan looked up into the guys face he was smiling slightly. "uhhhhhh, hi. I'm Natan Colrane, how ya doin??" chuckling he pulled his spear back to him leaning on it, trying to look casual.

OOC:its a little short but its all i got. sorry

OOC: no worries we'll get it flowing now.

IC: Shawn was feeling quite pleased with himself. It seemed the extra practices and workouts were paying off. Holding the Spring he had made it through all the forms with his right hand, feeling confident that even his mentor Corin would not have found a mistake. Then again, he thought ruefully, if Corin was there he probably would have felt too much pressure and not done as well. It had been that way when he worked the forge with Uzziel as well though. No matter how well he did in private he always seemed to make more mistakes when someone was looking for them. Oh well, that was why he practiced. If he could train his muscles the correct way often enough then eventually they would form a memory of their own and flow through the forms without his mind needing to give the commands.

Of course there were a few mistakes to be found when he worked the forms with his left hand, but not as many as in the weeks prior. This frustrated Shawn immensely because in all other things he was fully ambidextrous. He used both hands for every activity and seldom favored one over the other, not even out of habit. Here in sword work however, the most important thing to his training at the moment, his left side proved less agile and dextrous than his right. And so he took hold of the Spring once more and went through the forms a second time with that side.

Finshing that set he took a drink from his waterskin and took up the second practice lathe. This was where he needed the most work as it was only last week that he'd finished putting together all he'd seen from others with the forms Corin had taught him so that he could effectively use the two blades at the same time. As he was still learning these forms he knew he would make mistakes and was glad once again for the practice lathes, without which his arms and legs would be covered in scars from his own practice sessions. Still holding onto the Spring he was aware of another trainee standing near a tree where he'd seen a spear earlier.

So he had an audience huh? Surprisingly this did not make him nervous as it would if Corin was watching. In fact, instead of the fear that mistakes would be found he found himself focusing even more, willing himself to do better now that he had an audience. Shawn flowed through the forms with a grace he did not usually have, still needing to concentrate but no longer having to force his muscles to do what he wanted. He heard a faint rustle behind him and turned, flowing into Parting the Silk and catching not just the spear but the trainees hand between his two lathes.

"uhhhhhh, hi. I'm Natan Colrane, how ya doin??" the trainee said before pulling his spear back.

Shawn stepped back into the guard stance and looked the other trainnee over. They looked close to the same age, though Natan may have been a year or two older, and Natan was a few inches taller but he seemed a pleasant enough looking guy. "My name is Anwashawn Ellasser. I don't know about you but if my mentor found out I'd left my weapons outside I'd be in pretty deep trouble."

OOC: we can talk for a bit if you want or you can ask him to spar. If you do, then assume he agreed and go ahead and start the spar. I think Kross will be along sometime soon. When he gets here we can hear the strange noise and go to investigate.

"My name is Anwashawn Ellasser. I don't know about you but if my mentor found out I'd left my weapons outside I'd be in pretty deep trouble." Natan kinda chuckled at that knowing the truth behind it. "Yeah, im fairly new to this so i'm not really used to having to be responsible for multiple weapons. I'm really just used to dealing with my rapier. You probably saw me watching you. I thought it was absolutely amazing the speed and grace you were putting into those forms. I don't mean to sound weird or anything but like I said, I'm fairly new at this and I don't even know all the forms yet and here you are going through them like you were born with swords in your hands." Anwashawn grinned at this comment.

"So.... how about sparring? Your two swords against my spear? I haven't been training long but my mentor says im a natural. Besides I could use something to do." Once again Anwashawn smiled and without saying anything settled into a defensive position. Natan took this as a yes and gripped his spear in attack position. He tried to fake him out by snapping the point at him and pulling the back end around to attack his right side but he was too quick and actually blocked both with ease. Natan pulled back and smiled, it was going to be a good fight. He hadn't met someone in a while who could match him for speed. He re-ingaged the fight by going for a leg sweep with the back end, following through by bringing the tip around at Shawns left shoulder.

OOC: lets go!

Sparring sounded like a fun way to pass the time, and Shawn didn't have anything else to do this evening so he agreed and backed up into a guard stance. After blocking Natan's first few attacks rather easily they quickly fell into a rhythm. Natan attacked and Anwashawn counterattacked. Or Shawn would attack and Natan would block. Slash and riposte. Thrust and block.

This match could last a while, they were too evenly matched. Shawn thought he might have actually done better with only one sword since the two blades still got in each other's way, but he knew he needed the pracice so he kept going with both. In the middle of a series of attacks that Natan was blocking easily Shawn twisted his right sword at the last second, hitting Natan's knee intsead of the shoulder strike he knew would be coming and block.

It was only then that he realized his mistake. As he twisted his right sword to deliver that blow he'd forgotten to bring his left up to block and had been tagged by the blunt end of the spear almost immediately after his own succeful hit. As they both fell to the ground Shawn couldn't help but laugh. This was exciting, the first real fun he'd had in a long time.

OOC: Varligen, hope you didn't mind the liberties I took moving your character, I didn't think you'd mind the loss since it was mutual. Kross, feel free to come in anytime during the fight or after.

The day had started clear and crisp as Treian made his way thought the gate with the others for the days routine of stacking and hauling wood for the various stoves and fires that kept the Tower warm and fed. The air held a twinge of smoke from the fires; light swirls like tendrils from a mammoth beast made their way in the sky above. It had taken a great amount of coin and fast-talking to be able to secure the position he had. Today he was assisting a local woodsman as a labourer; moving wood from the carts as they arrived to the central storage room and to the covered shack behind the kitchen for the cook stove.

The work was hard in comparison to the work he would normally be doing in his regular past time. But the dream of money and the power that money wielded kept him going. He was here on a mission to relieve the Tower of one of it's precious trinkets which he was sure would fetch a grand price on the black market. Mumbling a good morning as he tried to bow with out dropping the load he held; his eyes following the sister until she turned the corner and disappeared from sight. Only then did he relieve the held breath he had not noticed doing. His spine tingled incessantly with all the Aes Sedia and guards around. This was not the place to be for his kind, but the prize in his eyes was worth the risk.

His day continued much as it had begun; grudgingly moving wood from one place to the other. Slivers and debris covered his woollen shirt and poked at his arms; those that just brushed against the surface caused him to itch. This had to be one of the most miserable jobs one could ever find, the thought floating through his head as his eye's continued to scan the surroundings. He tried to orient himself to the map he had spent over a week memorizing. He was sure that the long low building off to one side should be part of the barrack block. That being true then the offices he sought would be down there further and off to the side.

The sound of wood cracking against wood brought his attention back and he realized he had been staring and did not notice the trainee's that had begun a spar over by a tree. One using a spear and the other two swords, both where shaky compared to the skill of the City watch he had run into on several occasions. But at least they seemed to know which end to point at their opponent. Treian spared them a moments longer glance then returned to the hard labour of moving wood around the grounds with a slight chuckle at the youngsters he had seen. Time was a precious commodity he could not afford wasted on two younglings. He still had to set out where he was going to disappear once the time was right to sneak into the office for his prize; and well deserved as he saw it. He looked over his shoulder once more at the two boys playing with their sticks whishing they would be done soon and leave. Time was getting short and he did not want to worry about more eyes; the guards on detail would be enough to handle with out the problem of errant youths.

IC: Kross left the mess hall full. He had just finished a good meal of sliced beef, a soft warm bread, & a well-chosen spiced wine. He decided that he would look for Shawn and Kozan & see if they wanted to go into Tar Valon to hit some of the local taverns before curfew. He went to their room to see if they were there, but found Kozan already asleep. She must have been worked hard by her mentor today. Quietly placing his sword on the weapon rack & grabbing a clean shirt, Kross left in sreach of Shawn.

Kross first checked the mess hall. Maybe he had gone there while Kross was in the room. But he wasn't. He asked some of the trainees if they had seen him anywhere. One of them said he was at the training yards. Kross thanked her & quickly left to catch Shawn before he left. On his way there, Kross nearly ran into a man carrying a stack of cut wood. He didn't look like he was in a good mood. He gave Kross a rude look & stormed off to finished his work.

It was not far from there that he found Shawn & another trainee sparring. Shawn had his two practice lathes & the other trainee was using a spear-like lathe. They looked pretty well matched. Kross stepped closer to get their attention. They noticed & stopped their duel. " Hey Shawn. You want to go into Tar Valon & hit a tavern or two?" Kross said to Shawn, " You can come too, if you would like." He directed to the other trainee.

OOC: Yet again, I'm am so sorry I took so long. Hope you don't mind the direction it's going.

OOC: Alright, now that we're all here let's see if we can get this started.

IC: After that first mutual fall Shawn and Natan continued to spar. They were not trying to beat each other, merely enjoying themselves with some sport. Shawn saw his roommate Kross walking up and signaled Natan for a halt.

"Hey Shawn. You want to go into Tar Valon & hit a tavern or two? You can come too, if you would like."

"Yeah sure, sounds like fun. I haven't been into the city since I got here. Might as well enjoy the free time while I have it. What do you say Natan, will you join us?"

When Natan accepted they put the practice lathes down and gathered their weapons off the ground and the three of them wandered off toward the gate. As they were passing the section of the barracks that held the officer's offices Shawn heard a strange noise followed by a string of curses.

"Did you guys hear that? I wonder what it was. Let's go check it out."

Day’s light began to wane to the stretching shadows of evening’s twilight as Triean eased from his concealed location next to a drain barrel. It had taken considerably longer for the growing shadows to reach the depth he was comfortable with, yet the time had finally arrived. He had a purpose to complete before night’s darkness swallowed Tar Valon, the guards would be more suspicious of a woodman’s assistant leaving that late and the question that would ensue could bring no fortune.

With great care he slipped silently from his concealment; drab gray cloths blending somewhat to the fingers of shadow stretching out over the yard and it’s contents. An arm full of wood incase someone should happen by on him he made his way along the building’s edge following the corridor toward the door that held his sought treasure. With great care he placed the pile of chopped wood next to the door, eyes sweeping intently around him searching for any sign that others watched or were near.

A hand, slightly tender from a harder day’s work then normal, slipped into his pocket retrieving 2 fine tipped metal strips. The tools where hand fashioned and had provided well for him; lock picking was a fine skill enhanced only with it’s continued application over time. Something that Treian had been doing for a longer period then he would ever consider admitting to. With one last slow cautious look around his surrounding he placed the picks to the door’s locking mechanism and began his work.

The lock offered to be considerably more challenging then the regular locks of the town proper, but he was not a man that gave in too easily if the price was right. His concentration only deepened as the lock resisted his touch time and again, picks riding across carefully crafted fingers and slides. Deeper in to his focus on the lock, the rest of the world around him beginning to fade away from thought or attention as desperation to achieve his goal blocked everything from his mind.

His first notice that something was wrong was the sharp pain that leapt up from his shin. Somewhere in his focused effort to open the door he had knocked over the carefully placed pile of wood. His eyes darted nervously around him again, ear’s straining for sound yet nothing met either and the breath he had subconsciously held released slowly as he swung the door open on near silent hinges and slipped into darkness of the room. Pausing only long enough for his eyes to adjust, he began to search the room methodically for the sword.

After the third trainee joined Natan and Shawn, Natan suddenly felt more like an outsider. It was obvious that the two knew each other, but they invited Natan to go tavern hopping with them so he felt semi included. maybe he would make a couple of new friends this way. He nodded his approval and they made their way towards tar valon. on there way there they heard a loud crash and someone cursing. "Did you guys hear that? I wonder what it was. Let's go check it out." They started jogging towards the area that the sound came from. "Guys, maybe we should step a little lighter" Natan whispered. They started to walk and saw one of the gates hanging open on the outside of the barracks. "Hmm thats odd, those are usually locked by this time..." it had already started to get dark. They started to make their way towards the gate, trying to be as quite as possible...

Passing through the gate they creeped along the main hall. As they passed the hall with the officers' offices Shawn stopped. Something didn't seem right. Unsure what it was that had caught his attention he motioned for the others to follow and they moved down the hall. That's when he noticed it again. There was a pile of wood sitting outside Borac's office. That was what his mind picked up on as strange and unusual.

Shawn had only met Borac once in passing but he'd passed this office several dozen times and he knew that pile of wood shouldn't be there. That was when he remembered seeing a workman carrying a pile of wood in this direction earlier. At the time he'd assumed the man was part of a work detail, but now he wasn't so sure.

Waslking closer he heard some noise within the office and assumed the worst. If the man was in the barracks at this hour, he was up to no good, and if he was in an office he was stealing. There was no other reason Shawn could come up with why the man would be there. Drawing both his blades he got into a ready stance. Seeing the questioning looks from the other two he whispered, "He doesn't know we're only half trained, let's see if we can bluff him" Then he called out in a loud voice, "Alright, drop whatever it is you hoped to steal and come out now! If you surrender willingly we'll show leniency!"

As his eyes adjusted to the surrounding darkness; bands of lighter grey filtered in through the window from the moonlight alternated with the deep pools of black. Somewhere in here was the prize he sought, his eyes fell on the desk near the window, as good as any place to start. "Alright, drop whatever it is you hoped to steal and come out now! If you surrender willingly we'll show leniency!" With a bitten off curse Treian spun, dropping low; already a dagger from his right sleeve had slipped into his hand and a long bladed knife in his left. His face darkened as he slipped back into one of the darker pools of blackness; eyes intent on the doorway, the voices that had interrupted him. Silence met them both as each side waited on the other, Treian taking the time to play back the voice that had spoken. Soft with an attempted hardness, but not what he would have expected of a Wall guard, and it was to high, a trainee most likely. The situation seemed to get more complicated with each passing moment as the sound of shuffling feet and the slowly distancing foot falls of someone at a run. More then one and a runner had been dispatched … if he was to escape this with his skin now was the time for action.

If he actually did permanent harm to one of the towers precious trainee’s he would find a long time in a dark room a welcome escape form the guard’s hand of justice. But he was not willing to accept defeat just yet. Grabbing the arm of the chair that sat behind the desk he gave it a hard shove so it slid under the window and then quickly side stepped back into the corner along the same wall as the door. Exchanging the dagger in his right with a solid book that he drew back watching the door. Divide and conquer was his best chance, if he could put them out quick the arriving guards might think he had slipped out the window and run off in the opposite direction looking for him. He would wait for the second one through the door; shadows in the doorway formed and he counted at least two heads in that new mass of misshapen black on the floor.

He body tensed like a tightly compressed spring waiting to release, the book hovering behind his head to send. The quiet tension was beginning to get to them, a small grin forming on his face. They must be trainees, guards would have either rushed in by now with confidence, or positioned themselves to cover the building and wait for reinforcements. Trainee’s he could deal with, but he had to be quick and over powering for this to play in his favour.

At Shawn’s yell, Kross was off like lightning bolt. He ran in search of Borac. Franticly he asked everyone he met if they had seen him. A few said he was near the Mess Hall with Neroin. Kross ran as hard & as fast as he could to the Mess Hall.

Kross almost collapsed from lack of air as he reached the hall. Stumbling in, He soon saw Borac & Neroin sitting at a table eating & talking. Kross ran to them & said, “Borac someone broken into your office! You should come quickly. Shawn & Natan are doing what they can to stall him, but I don’t know how long he will believe they are Tower Guards.†They ran back to the office as soon as Kross had finished

OOC: Two notes: 1) this RP counts as Natan’s WS 2-3 requirement (as well as the other trainees, but they are not mine so discuss that with their respective mentors). 2) I intend to use my involvement in this toward my own training by using it as the “2 threads helping trainees=1 requirement for advancement†deal. This is the first thread of the 2 I intend to use for my WS 17-20 requirements. Please see my progress tracking thread for further details.

IC: “Well personally I don’t think you should be too hard on your sister Borac.†Said Neroin sitting with the Master at arms. Neroin could not eat, but Borac was having a hearty dinner.

:::: “Why is that friend?â€

:::: “Two reasons: her little stunt of going off on her own without telling you wasn’t all that dangerous. It was only to the gate towns. The second reason is that she’s Aes Sedai. She may be your little sister, but she can still tie you in knots with the one power.â€

:::: Borac gave a great belting laugh that rippled his muscular blue tattooed body like the waves of the sea. Neroin liked talking with the man. They had both been the same path and had trained students together. He only wished that, as interesting as his tattoos were, Borac would wear a shirt.

:::: “Your advice is good, but I still think she should have a—†Borac wass interrupted by the frantic footsteps of a trainee who reeched them and dropped to the floor like a brick. Neroin and Borac just looked at each other.

:::: “Borac someone broken into your office! You should come quickly. Shawn & Natan are doing what they can to stall him, but I don’t know how long he will believe they are Tower Guards.â€

:::: “Well if my meal wasn’t spoiled with Neroin’s company it certainly is now.â€

:::: “Well put, old man,†said Neroin. “I’ll circle around the yards and come around from behind your office, you follow the youngster.†Neroin exited the mess hall while Borac was still hesitating between his meal and his personal belongings.

:::: Neroin took the path that moved along all the entrances and exits to the tower grounds making sure as he went that no one had forced his way past, and also warning them to be on the look out for someone who had gotten through the defenses. He also added that he would personally pan-fry the important bits of the man responsible if he found out who dropped their guard long enough for someone to sneak through.

:::: With the guards at each station thoroughly chastised, Neroin continued on the path toward the offices of the master at arms. He reached the building without further incident and arrived at the scene just in time to see his student Natan and another trainee squaring off against a man who had the carriage of an outlaw. Neroin though for a moment that he would like to watch to see how hi student fared against a seasoned veteran of the streets, but thought better of it. Those boys had done nothing to deserve the beating they would receive if Neroin allowed the confrontation to escalate.

:::: Neroin moved forward slowly and silently, while the students swaggered around trying to bluff their way out of a confrontation. ‘smart of them, but the thief isn’t buying it anymore.’ He thought.

:::: Slowly, so as not to make noise Neroin drew his sword.

:::: Just as the thief advanced on the trainees Borac and the trainee from earlier came running onto the scene. Neroin noted that Borac still had a piece of rice on his cheek indicating that he had taken a few more bites before leaving the mess hall. The theif’s attention riveted on the oncoming master at arms and Neroin slid out and got behind the thief. “Cease and Desist!†shouted Borac. The Theif backed up and felt the tip of Neroin’s sword pressed into his back.

:::: “I don’t think moving is a wise decision friend.†Neroin grinned and leaned in close to the trespasser ear with the blade still pressed against the base of his spine. “As I see it you have three choices. First, give up. Second, be paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of your natural life. Third, die very soon, but not without a good deal of pain. The choice is yours friend. Choice one seems most appealing though, doesn’t it?â€

:::: “I see you have everything taken care of Neroin. I’ll call the guards to assist you in taking him to interrogation.â€

:::: “Much appreciated.†Neroin shouted in return, “Now.†Neroin turned his attention to his prisoner with a quick poke from his sword. “I’m going to lead you to the wall where you are going to place your hands and spread your legs. I want to make sure you don’t have anything pointy and dangerous.†He grinned evilly and began prodding the prisoner over to the wall.

OOC: It’s rather late now so Im going to end it here. I believe that standard policy is to make a report immediately after the incident so the 3 trainees and Borac will do that while I would like to “interrogate†the perpitrator… I have many fresh and unpleasant ways of getting information. Sorry I took so long and thank you for letting me help out Smile.
