Short review for "Embers Falling on Dry Grass"

Bob Kluttz, the webmaster over at Encyclopaedia-wot.org has posted a short review of Embers Falling on Dry Grass, the prologue to Knife of Dreams. Here's what he had to say about the eBook prologue, which is now available from Simon & Schuster Online.

The e-book prologue to "Knife of Dreams" went on sale Friday [ with a price tag of $3.50. We've organized our review much like we did last year. And a caveat, we reviewed the Adobe Reader version. We cannot vouch for the content of other versions.

What you get:

1) Some links to web sites. They're just links, and if you're interested, you probably already have them bookmarked.

2) The prologue

That's it. There is no extra content of any sort. However rumor has it that the last section is really chapter 1 of the hardcover. If we can confirm/belie the rumor we will post it ASAP.

What's inside:

The prologue is what we've come to expect. It is a series of seven vignettes and they are well worth the read! While there are no earthshaking revelations, there are several surprises that relate to major plot threads. The situations of several of our heroes make sharp turns--that they don't know about! Overall, "Embers Falling on Dry Grass" appears to do a great job setting up the conflicts that will surely occur later in the book.

The sections also tie together so they feel like a single story, much less disjointed than some previous prologues. Each one advances a major plot thread in one way or another. And the title is certainly apropos. Each section gives a clear message of conflict to come. Overall we think "Embers Falling on Dry Grass" is one of the best prologues, setting the stage for momentous events in "Knife of Dreams." We give it four out of five herons.

So should you spend $3.50 or wait till October? October 11 is two and a half months to wait. That's a long time, isn't it!

If you don't want to pay for the eBook prologue, have no fear! There is another option. Tor Books has published a portion of the prologue for free on their KNIFE OF DREAMS website. Click the link below to read it. This free sample is just an excerpt of the prologue and is not the entire thing.
