The Very Best Christmas Present Ever

Guest Robert Jordan

8889 views

This is a very short post, I'm afraid. I know it's been awhile since I posted last, but various things kept getting in the way. Still, here goes, with the best Christmas present I've ever received. Something I had to share without any delay.

As you all no doubt know by now, the marker for amyloids is something called Lambda Light Chains, which are found in the blood. The normal range is between 1 and 3. Five months ago, I was at 75. Four months ago, that had gone up to 96. The higher the LLC number, the worse for you. So I wasn't doing so hot.

This morning the Mayo gave me my most recent LLC number. 3.14!!!! No, that isn't a typo. 3.14!!! I'm on the brink of normal. Something I never thought I'd say about myself in any regard, frankly. I've got Liston the ropes, guys, and I really believe that your prayers and well-wishes have helped put him there. Now I just have to put him on the canvas. This isn't a cure, and I'm not even sure whether it will count as remission, but it means I'm still on my feet and will be for a while yet. 3.14! Hot damn!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everybody.

I'll talk to you again after the 1st.

RJ

HOOOOOOOHAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Liston is shaken, get in there with the combination and let him have it. Let's get a few Aiel in there to drag him from the ring and let the black ajah put him to the question. We don't want him ever climbing back in this ring!!!!!

Great news there. I hope the numbers slip into the normal range and never leave it for the rest of your very long life.

So glad to hear the good news. In times of trouble, besides praying, I think back my time time in the "Rat Line" at VMI. "If I could Make it through that, I can make it through anything." This is back when hazing was hazing and we all kept our mouth shut and took it. And yes it did build character. I'm sure you endured the same your first year at The Citadel. Do Take care, and as you said, laugh all you can. It is the best medicine. I look foward to book 12.

Sincerely,

Have been out of the loop for 3 weeks and returned

home to find the wonderful news.

You have been truly blessed; may it continue this

year and many more.

Do you feel better, physically? Not worried about

your mental health!

PS..thanks for choosing Liston as an opponent and not

Joe Frazier. I was the butt of jokes for years even

though I`m female.

Dear Mr. Jordan,

Like many of your readers whose first comments were posted only after finding out about your illness, I have found myself heartened and encouraged by your recent progress.

My sister was born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and was told she would never speak. Being as stubborn and strong-willed as anyone I've ever met, she of course did. The same results followed upon being informed of never walking, running, writing, playing sports, and going to college. In August of 2002, her spine was crushed in an ATV accident and she was permanently paralyzed from the mid-chest down. Of course the doctors said she would never be able to resume her teaching job at Children's World early learning centers again. After several years of hard work and struggle with all nature of setbacks, she has re-applied for her job and is awaiting word of her reinstatement as shaper of young lives. If anyone can do it, she can, and if anyone could serve as inspiration for you, I hope my sister Sara's story can.

Thank you for the surpassing entertainment your writing has given me, and for showing that even when our personal heroes face long odds, they can be overcome.

Glad to hear things are going better. Can't wait to hear there is a cure.

Don't really know what to attribute it to, God of course. Your faith, our faith, maybe God wants to see the series finished too. Of all that has been written, the Wheel of Time is an all time great. Not just our time, not just your peers, but all time.

Here is an idea. Finish it. Keep the last book in an editable form, and continue to right many more on the series and in 30+ years when your end comes put out the last book. If the next one has too be 2000+ pages at least split it up.

Thanks for everything.

Your work is inspiring!

Dear Mr Jordan,

You've been responsible for me committing several personal firsts:

1) Re-read* a series of novels I began as a youth and love them at least equally as an adult (* make that re-re-re-re-re-re-read)

2) Write an unabashed letter/comment of abject fandom and admiration. (do I really need to wax superlative?)

3) Deal with a terrible moral conflict.

1 and 2 probably need no elaboration, and probably neither does 3. When I first heard of your amyloidosis I confess my initial, selfish thought was "but but but but NOOOOOOOO!!!! He MUST finish the books!". Granted hot on it's heels were "Ouch, you selfish bastard!" and "I hope he gets well and I really empathise with the difficult stuff he and his family must be dealing with". First time that happened, i.e. the consideration of my own trivial selfish desires above the non-trivial needs of someone else. So now you need to get better for two reasons: 1) to live a longer and even more fruitful life, and dare I say it 2) to finish those books, and 3) to in some tiny way assuage my feelings of guilt!

Hmm ok, so I am not being *entirely* serious, please don't set hordes of humour impaired fans onto me! I do genuinely wish you and your family all the best regardless of bookish issues. The power of a great story is to transport the reader to places previously undreamed of. You have done that in so many ways with the WoT series, and I cannot thank you enough. So with all that said, a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, congrats on your latest test results, good luck, get well soon and forgive a humble fan his shameful blip of selfishness.

All the best

Louis
