  1. I was either 12 or 13.

I read the series off and on but never caught up. I think I stopped reading in the middle of The Shadow Rising. I didn't dislike the series, I just found other things to do heh. For awhile, I thought Crown of Sword's was the final book!

I remember purchasing A Gathering Storm....but I still had not finished Book 4. I spoiled one or two plotlines after catching a few words in the book flap (dust jacket).

One summer, my power went out for about a week. I looked around for something to do and it dawned on me that I've been several years behind on my WoT reading heh.

If I remember correctly, the first book I waited on was KoD.

  2. I think Asmodean died too soon.  He had a very unique story; he had a chance for redemption. Lanfear implied that he may have begun to turn (she looked at some of his dreams) but we could never be sure given that they were just dreams. Dreams can be random and not always reflect what we want in the waking world. I would like to think he was turning back toward the light...but I wouldn't have minded an 11th hour backstab.

  3. I wonder if the answer is more simple. Perhaps the pipe is a Ter'angreal that works with channelers and non channelers.

Rand cannot channel nor can he manipulate reality in this dimension.  He found (or created) and kept a small gift as a reward.

  4. I always thought the pipe lighting power came because of his fight with the DO. He wove that posible future, so in essance he was the creator for that age in that it played out according to his vision of it. Dont know why he wasnt able to channel always thought it a thing of the soul whether you could channel or not might be the body burnt itself out in the LB.

    Interesting.

Perhaps there is some truth to that angle. the DO refers to Rand as "adversary".  That could be a specific distinction or just a plain label.

  5. I didn't take much issue with the Flame of Tar Valon as some people did. I thought it was well foreshadowed and expected her to come up with an anti-balefire weave as soon as Perrin first said to her "It's just a weave" back in ToM.

The only two things that 'upset me' where:

    1) She somehow knew it wouldn't hurt those not turned far from the light. That wasn't necessary. BS and RJ should have just told us all of the other Aes Sedai fled when she used it.  Moreover, the Sharan's weren't darkfriends...we at least not the kind that have evil in their heart.

    2) I wasn't a fan of the crystallization.  I suppose if you aren't burned from the pattern you are frozen in?  *shrug*

  6.

Not an original Jenn Aiel but one of the original AS that directed the Jenn. She never died but went into hybernation, was awakened shortly after water was brought back to Rhuidian and is nafariously returning to her role in directing the Aeil. Either that or just another creator figure that RJ wanted put in to play with our heads

reminds me a bit of Buffy season 7, when we suddenly find out in the penultimate episode that the male Watchers had a female counterpart called Guardians who have guarded the Scythe for the final battle. She turns up out of nowhere, does her bit then goes away

haha yea that was pointless...not only that but she was under sunnydale all along

okay no more hijacking from me haha

  7.

I dont think any of the suggestions so far fit v well. The Creator has spoken to Rand twice - once at the start of his journey, once at the end, and thats it. Egwene time travelling, or speaking from the Pattern after her death, dont fit either. So i have to label this as unexplained. Hard to see how a Jenn Aiel could survive all this time. Even if she was trapped in some sort of stasis, or via one of those vacuoles which Moridin stuck Moghedien in for a while, that would not explain how aware she was of the past, present and future. The best explanation I can think of is that she is some sort of ghost or something, related to the Pattern and reality breaking down as the Dark One breaks free

You know what? That's actually an excellent explanation, as far as I'm concerned. The dead were walking the earth and interacting with people. Both RJ and BS showed us moments where that was to the detriment of people, this is a moment where it is to their gain.

But she knew about Rand's body swap plans.  No normal ghost could possibly now that.

  8. All of these are criticisms I have.

    Notably:

-Perrin's storylines, outside of his most recent battle with slayer, have been a SNORE

    -----OMG Slayer is still alive!!!!!

-Frustrating how some of the characters talk to each other. Manipulation was cool at first, then it just got old

-Why isn't everyone kissing Rand's feet? Get with it people. He's the Dragon Reborn.

-The screen time of the Forsaken has decreased. The first few books were awesome in large part because of Lanfear and Asmodean.

-The Black Tower, Logain, and Taim need more screen time.

-Moiraine is finally saved....tbh....I kinda didn't care. Took much longer than it needed. Thom might actually have a storyline haha.

-Meh, I wish Rand would have wiped out the Seanchan and I wish the Aes Sedai weren't so stupid and inept wrt battling. After seeing Moiraine, I thought all Aes Sedai were as knowledgeable in the power, respectful, and honest. Lies all lies!

    -The pacing
