I'm almost certain Galad can channel, pretty sure Gawyn can channel and even willing to entertain the possibility that Mat can. After all, Mat's sister can channel.

mat and perrin cant as they are unable to learn the flame and void like all other channels. flame and void associated with sword technique b/c bel'lal and LTT were the ones to "take that tame sport" and turn it into the "art of killing"

1. the more common one is that having one copy of the channeling gene makes you a learner, two copies (one from each parent) make you a sparker, and no copies make you all in all a loser.

Looking at the Tigraine+Janduin=Rand table and knowing that Rand is a sparker, we can definitively say that both parents should carry a copy of the channeling gene => Tigraine has the channeling gene.

However, I find that theory overly simplified and personally lean towards Theory 2.

I can see a flaw in theory 1. If having one copy of the channeling gene makes one a learner, and two makes one a sparker, then Rand, being a sparker, must have gained copies from each of his parents. Which means Tigraine must be a learner. But she went to the Aiel. She became a Maiden of the Spear. Not a Wise One. And all channeling women in the Wast become Wise Ones. Therefore, if Tigraine could channel, she would become a Wise One. She didn't, so she probably couldn't. So, looks like theory 2 then.

So there we have it - the odds of Galad being a channeler... and with a ta'veren for a brother this ain't such bad odds. ;)

It does take place on our Earth.  RJ has stated this saying that they are the source many of our myths and legends and we are the source of many of theirs.   While it is both our past and future due to the circular nature of time I would still say that it is in our relative future.  The general consensus is that we are the first age, the AOL is the second age and of course the story takes place in the third age.

Neither Rand nor Mat have been in this situation, so it is quite useless to speculate what they would do.

 

Attempting a raid would require realtime intel about Elaidas position, and how many others that might be around here. Since that is close to impossible, the best intel the rebels could get would be delayed long enough for Elaida to have moved, or for her beign surrounded by several Aes Sedai. Even with the element of surprise, there are no guarantees that such a strike would be successful, without casualties on any side. Because as soon as the first Aes Sedai dies, uniting the Tower becomes a great deal more difficult.

 

And even a completely successful capture of Elaida, without a single casualty, would be a guarantee for the conflict to be solved.

reread last few chapter book 5  for a classic lightning raid to break an opponent by removing there leader and win a war w/o a siege or assault

here is how i would perscute a egwene's war vs eliada

1- gather as much info as possible by dreamwalking

2- send in scouts to tar valon via traveling and id were eliada sleep via scouting using moghedien/forsaken bag of tricks*

3- strike at night eliada sleeps in 1 place no realtime info nded at all and if u want a day time raid a scout could a open small gateway and send a note to an attack team delay would be a few seconds

4- weaving of saidar wont be noticed as odd in the white tower(see siuan capture scene) so its a standard shield and grab and skim out

5- declare the war vs eliada over

*using inverted weaves to disguise faces masking etc basicly and pretend to be a servant etc(we know its possible multiple forsaken have infiltrated the white tower repeatedly)

is starving a city by blocking the docks a better way than a full assault? hard to say but a raid to take out spefic aes sedai would not cost either side

I totally agree with you; while Egwene has progressed quiet a bit since the beginning of the series, in some ways she really needs to be put in her place still. But at the same time everyone justifies Rand for using and manipulating people solely based on who he is. How is Egwene really any different? She is the Amyrlin now after all. So while I don't always agree with the actions she takes, change that, more like almost everything she does, I still see where she has to take these actions to make sure she isn't over run by the other Aes Sedai.

As I said before, harsh environments do not produce physically perfect specimens. People don't grow to huge sizes where there is extremely little food or water. If anything they become more compact, hardier, and tougher, they don't turn into Greek Gods. So the evolution argument doesnt work, 3000 years of living in a wasteland doesnt produce a race of 6'6'', stacked superhumans. Populations begin to get that way when they live among plenty, when good nutrition and an adequate calorie intake are guaranteed, not something that has to be scrapped over every day. Look at us now, people are beginning to grow very tall because food is not an issue so the body can grow as much as it likes.
