  1. Arath knew that he had more adrenaline in his veins than he did blood, but that was fine. He needed all of it to escape from the monster behind him, who seemed to be growing bigger and more intimidating the closer he got to the exit. Arath could see the moonlight shining through the trees, a pale silver glow; it was creepy before, but now it signaled his salvation from the- the... thing chasing him. He was so close, just a few more steps. Step, step, step- FALL!

It seemed that the warrior behind him also had the atributes of an ape as well, for he tripped Arath while swinging on the branches. Arath was so close... half of his body was crossing the last tree, but not quite. The scarred man in front of him loomed above him, and for a moment, Arath thought he had lost, that his life was forfeit. The adrenaline in his system doubled, his heart was beating so fast that Arath thought the entire Yard would hear the drum beats. He had tunnel vision; all he could see was the terrifying spectre in front of him. For a single moment, time stopped, until he saw the lips move on the marred face.

"Don't come here again.  You're not welcome." It was odd; in his terror, Arath's mind twisted the words, so that they sounded like they were being spoken from a mile away, yet he could hear them clearly. With his animal-like terror, Arath didn't comprehend the meaning of the words until the man was long gone. After the adrenaline had seeped from his body, and he was calmed down, a strange sensation spread inside of him. Arath laughed. No, laughter was not a strong enough word. He was hysterical; he laughed so hard that he was crying. This man, for now that the terror wore off he could see clearly that it was merely a man, was the most terrifying thing in his life.

It was humilifying, to know that he was so scared, that he was completely vulnerable to another person. However, at the same time, it was liberating. This was no doubt the hardest challenge he had ever faced, and he had bested it. Of course, he didn't come close to actually beating the man, but he survived. His speed, his agility, it all came through in the end. He was a long way, a very long way, from become a great blademaster, but that man represented all of his fears. His inadequicy, his weakness, his fear, that man was everything that made him feel like he was not a true warrior. While he didn't beat that man head on, all of the sudden he didn't seem so huge anymore.

With his pride rekindled, Arath limped exhaused back to his dorm, and slept better than he had ever slept before.

  2. Light help me, was the only thing that Arath could think about. He felt his body slamming into a tree, and was not happy to hear a snapping sound. He didn't think his back was broken, because it didn't hurt that much, but it definately wasn't perfect. Scrambling to his feet, Arath tried to run away, but he felt what seemed like a large stick impact with his back. Unfortunately, it was right where the center of where his original injury was. Waves of pain wreaked his body, but Arath refused to just lay there. He had spent his entire life being beaten down and he wouldn't let it just happen to him again.

Raising shakily to his feet, Arath watched the shadowy man warily. A strong sense of hopelessness acumulated in his gut, and he concidered just giving up and letting the man eat him, or whatever the monster did with trainees who wandered into his forest. No! He couldn't die here! He had dreams, goals, things that he wanted to do before he died. If he gave up now, he would never be a good warrior. Every man he would face would be like this: tall and intimidating. This was just the first challange that he had to overcome. He could never beat this man in a strait fight, but all he had to do was get away, to use his speed and agility that he had been working on.

With his confidence returned, Arath began running towards the man, but after a step, changed directions completely. The man behind him was big and bulky, and should have a hard time manuvering through the trees because of his size, while Arath himself wove through the trees, ducking below branches that the other man could not. Adrenaline could only work so long, however, and Arath hoped that he reached the end of the woods soon.

  3. Physical training was one of the most important parts of warrior life. Arath's few short weeks in the Yards had taught him that much. Weapon's training was important, but because of his small size, he had to work twice as hard as the other trainees. More than just being able to swing a sword around, Arath had to be able to be more physically capable than his opponents. To utalize his size to the greatest advantage, he had to be agile and quick. He had to be able to dance around his opponents and get inside their guard. Unfortunately for him, this meant that he was moving at least twice as much as them, so he needed the stamina of the Creator himself.

And so that was what brought him to the forrest in the wee hours of the night. Arath had to run for hours every day, to keep up his endurance and make sure he was always at peak shape. Every night, he would run a little bit further, getting deeper and deeper into the dark woods. After jogging all the way up, he would have to jog all the way back- not a very simple task. Right now he was currently near the end of his jog out; Arath was not yet exhausted but he counted his steps as a way of passing the time. Thump, thump, thump, thump. The rhymical beat of his feet was hypnotic, especially in the dark hours of midnight. Luckily tonight was a full moon, else he would be blind.

The trainee was a bit of a loner in the Yards. The other trainees would always be concerned with things like oogling the Novices, or gambling in their rooms, while Arath would train himself to his breaking point. As if that weren't enough, they told him nasty tales about a blademaster who lived in the forest, and did not take kindly to any visitors. Arath knew that these tales were just the trainees' cruel ways of making fun of him and trying to get him to quit. They called the man a monster, tall and scarred all over his body. As if any man would want to live in the woods, alone and suply-less.

Tonight was a good night, Arath decided. He was feeling up to the challenge, so he decided to run a little bit further in than he normally would have. Just before he was about to turn back, Arath saw a figure appear in front of him. Not just any figure, but a great, scarred, monsterous figure, who shone with malice in the light of the full moon. All in all, it made a terrifying sight, and Arath began to wonder if those rumors were just rumors.

"What the hell are you doing here?

Yep, those rumors definately weren't just rumors.

  4. Hey, I know that TG's can fufill a requirement by helping out a newbie and I was wondering if anyone was interested? If so, here's the deal-

I don't actually know my WS at this moment in time, so the requirements I could do would be: Challenge, Responcibility (this would require two PC's so it's probably out), and my two electives.

The down side is that I am leaving for Nicaragua on the fifteenth and I'll be gone for a month. In that month I will have very unpredictable internet access and probably not more than an hour a week, if that. However, I'm willing to be a very quick updater and if someone could give me an reply every day or so, then we could complete the thread before I leave. I do know that many people aren't up to updating that soon, so if you are willing, give me a shout!

  5. You may meet up with the Mistress of Trainees, your roommate(s) and/or your mentor but it is not required.

That's a quote from the website, idk if it's been changed since that was put on there, but that's why I RP'd it that way. Could I just say that the MoT showed me around and not actually involve her in the thread? Cuz I don't want to volunteer her for a thread that she didn't sign up for.

  6. OOC: Hey! Just so you don't have to go back and look at my bio, Arath is very short- 5'6 and has brown hair and eyes. He doesn't have any distinguishing features other than his shortness. I would really apreciate it if anyone who posts could give me a short physical description of their character, because I don't know any of you. :D

IC: It was a long journey, from Caemlyn to Tar Valon, but Arath made it without any difficulties. The hardest part was the walking. Normally it took weeks to get from Caemlyn to Tar Valon, but it took him much longer. He got rides on carts whenever possible, but there were many days that it was necesary to walk on foot. Finally, though, after many days of aching feet, Arath set his eyes on the enormous White Tower, glittering in the sun. He felt a mixture of aprehension and excitement; he was finally going to become a great warrior, however, he feared rejection. The Caemlyn guard had already turned him away because of his -lack of- height, and this was his last chance.

Sucking up his nerve, Arath made his way into the city, and fought his way to the center, where the White Tower stood proudly. The town was just like Caemlyn, until he got to the Tower. He had seen an Aes' Sedai once. There was a parade and the Queen was in attendance- from a seat carried by horses, of course. Next to her was her Aes' Sedai advisor; she was extremely intimidating, drawn up tall. She seemed to be a giant in a woman's body, fierce and proud, looking down on the commoners as if they were dirt beneath her feet. And if the stories of Aes' Sedai powers were true, than they were dirt benieth her. Her face was ageless, as all Aes' Sedai, and she wore a serpent ring and fringed shawl. Even though it was swelteringly hot that day, she sweat not a drop.

All around him, Arath saw Aes' Sedai, walking, and it was a humbling sight. He knew that any one of these women could crush him with a thought. Once he made it to the home of the Tower Guard, however, there were no Aes' Sedai floating around, and he was much less intimidated. Arath felt the fear of rejection rising inside of him once again, but crushed it down. Finally he would be able to become a warrior and fufill his dream. Unfortunately, standing at the door to the Mistress of Trainee's office, all of these plans were beginning to seem unreal. It was almost like every person, be they man or woman, were huge with bulging muscles.

Arath almost turned back before he realized that he had absolutely nothing to loose. If the Mistress laughed in his face, then he would be no worse off than he was before. He had nothing to loose and everything to gain, so he rose a shakey fist and banged on the wooden door.

  7. Yeah, what I really need to know is just my WS, because that varies for newbies. I don't need it this instant, of course, but I do need it eventually ;D

Anyway, I'll post my arrival soon if anyone wants to join in.

  8. Wow, my third thread in 24 hours, sorry if I'm posting too much.

Anyway, I'm having trouble getting my sig pic to show. It's 500X125, so it's within the guidelines. What I'm doing right now is putting in my sig pic: [img website [/img but with end brackets. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Oh, and there is a little box with a red "X" in it where my sig should be. Can you all see my sig and it's just my computer that doesn't show the image?

  9. Now, I know that to increase your WS, you have to complete various threads. I've read through the website and all of that, but what I didn't see is whether or not you can do multiple threads at once? As in, can you be working on the thread for WS 3-4 at the same time as a thread for 4-5?

    :D :D Talavin :D :D

  10. Yeah, I know, it was more because BT seemed like it was kinda in shambles. Tons of people didn't know their weapon or OP scores. I actually have an old bio I made about a year ago for the BT but I had real life stuff get in the way. I have a good idea for an Aes'Sedai also, but I feel like I want to start with one and work my way from there.

  11. :D Yeah I spent a lot of time on that bio, I'm glad you like it.

Yeah, I just liked the name Arath and figured that you all could call me Talavin if you wanted.

My original idea was to make an Asha'man, but I thought that with the recent loss of their DL and everything the Div just looked far to unorganized. However, I've had the idea that if I really want to I can make Arath channel and get transfered to another division.

  12. Hey everybody! I'm Talavin and I've been a lurker at DM for a little while. I've read through all the rules and all that stuff and I'm in the process of making a Bio for a Trainee. Hopefully my Bio will be accepted quickly and I can get to RPing with all of you very soon. Anyway, I'm just posting to say "Hi" and that I would love to RP with anyone who's willing (after I get approved of course).
