  1. From a character POV, Egwene I believe.

    Paraphrasing

"It's hard to tell a novice to proceed slowly when the threat of being burnt out is mitigated by the ability to heal it."

The Aes Sedai, or at least Egwene, clearly believe that a woman who has been burnt out can be healed in the same manner that a woman who was severed can be.

Now, that's not cut and dried because it's only the opinion of one character but it does point to "burning out" being "healable", even though they are not the same malady.

As for severing methodology, Someone came up with a very good bridge analogy to describe the difference between crushing, stilling and burning that I think covers it prety well.  A sharp edge will leave a small cut in the bridge, a blunt instrument will shatter the center of the bridge, and burning it will leave nothing but the abutments on either bank, all of which give a base from which to heal the damage.

  2. Lanfear is severed bacause she loses, not contact, with the angreal, but it's location.

Channeling while going through the doorway had NO effect.  Rand exits the doorway in Tear while both holding the source, and actively channeling a fire sword.  This is direct evidence that channeling whist going through a doorway does not cause a chenneler to be severed.

A channeler does not need to be holding or touching an angreal to use it, but they must know it's exact location in relation to themselves.  That is why Lanfear was severed, Moraine claws it away from her and the surge of the power severed Lanfear.

It is possible, I will conceed, that Moraine did something specific with the Power that caused the destruction of the doorframe, but there is nothing in the description as to what, only that she was embracing the source.

  3. Yeah but if I'm Demandred, I see the slightest sign of weakness, Captive and severed, I'd want her dead simply because now it's more feasable now as opposed to when she is at full strength.

Guilding the Lily?  Perhaps but it at least clears the playing field a bit for the rest

  4. It's the damn missing puzzle pieces.

How did she die?  We don't know

Since it's evident that she was held by the Finns, the Shadow must not have the resources to free or kill her.

If she was stilled, as has been surmised, isn't it logical she may have killed herself to escape captivity?

That begs the question over whether she knew she could be returned.

That would lend some explanation to the new name she was given.

  5. So based on the text, it semms fairly evident that the ability to channel is genetic, while what a channeler channels is based on the soul inhabiting the body.

That is why "suitable" body is necessary.  The bodies Halima, Dashiva, Cyndane and Moridin currently occupy were likely Sparkers or Learners that were captured and taken to SG.  Their souls were stripped out and replaced with one of the dead Chosen.

    Like an Edgar suit.

  6. No one would pay any attention to "Attacking a bear gets you killed." because it's to literal so it doesn't mean anything except that.

All the sayings, while I find Lini to be a bit annoying, have nothing to do with the situation.

If the situation was Morgase deciding to walk up to Rahvin and scratch his eyes out, "The girl who tries to skin the live bear loses her own"  would fit.  Sure, it makes you roll your eyes but you get the point and make a better decision.  If Lini tried to reason with Morgase, Morgase would start remembering she's a queen and do whatever the hell she felt like doing.

My favorite was one of Verin's sayings.  "A woman decided to ride a tiger.  It was fine ride until she realized she could never get off and never sleep."

Of course, Birgitte's sayings are the best.  A full list can be found at

  7. They were more than curious, they were going to put her in the Sun Throne like it or not.  She decided that the thing she wanted most, finding the Dragon Reborn, offset quite nicely the thing she wanted least, sitting on the Sun Throne in Ciarhien and she bolted a half step ahead of the assassin sent by a rival house, intent on preventing her from taking the throne.

  8. I brought up in another thread that this always bothered me.

Chiad - Gaul, I don't want to marry you.  I will sleep with you but only if you promise to sleep with my hot friend as well.

Gaul - Nope, not interested in that.

A man is offered guilt free, no strings attached sex from an attractive woman AND her friend, and turns it down because she won't marry him.

I'm sorry, this may be really sexist but it's the only part of the story I don't believe.

That's why I love the Maidens.  They get to choose what they are going to do and everyone who is not a Maiden can pound sand.
