Before Episode 3, I would not have considered Moraine at risk. Now, I'm not so sure. Perhaps Rosamund Pike, who actually has had a nice career, does not want to be tied down to a multi-season show (with pauses of 2 years between seasons).

But book Rand was much more attached (at the hip) to Moraine ...TV Rand, not so much (so far). Would he still feel guilt?

I myself am not a book reader and I really like Moriane's character. I rather watch her than any of the twin river kids. I don't know if I would continue to watch the show if her character is permanently killed off.  Rand is cute but that's about all, nyv is too headstrong and I don't  like her with Lan so that will probably do it for me. Egawne is OK at times but the constant wanting gets to me. Maybe she grows out of it. Perrin is just OK. Maybe the old Matt I would have kept watching but this one isn't cute and dry. Sad but I seem to like the bad guys better than the good..lol

As a show-only fan, my favorite character is Moiraine, especially with where the writers have taken her thus far. By crafting her Season 2 story based on the idea that she's been Stilled, the writers are giving her an arc that befits their decision to tell the story of WoT, at least for the foreseeable future, from her perspective even when we're seeing things that she's not present for and that revolve around other characters.

Not read any books, but my favorite is Moriane, 1st Matt, liandrin, Allana. Sivan was good but she wasn't in many episodes to really judge. Matt was the only one of the 2 rivers who wasn't too whiney and I liked that he was funny.

Interesting insights. So in your view, is liandrins narcissism/self interest entirely complete or when you say that you think she does have feelings for moiraine and nyn in show that you think she’s capable of experiencing genuine feelings for others, at least on some level? And what do you make of her emotional reactions in other scenarios such as her son?  Do you buy it or do you suspect that she has no capacity for authentic displays of emotion and rather is putting on a performance based on her own personal motivations? I’ve heard convincing opinions on both sides but I’m not certain yet of the current intent of her character

I believe she has feelings toward them were more about the power they possess. She feels that to be any other aji besides red is a waste of talent. She pretty much indicated that when she was talking to Nyv. Also during Moriane talks about Nyv with Liandrin  it seems like bad blood bc of choices Moriane made.

Good info.  I wonder if her extra years were spent as novice/accepted or if she had  few decades as full Aes Sedai.  I also wonder if Liandrin and Moraine had kind of weird Dom/sub relationship as part of Moraines training.  If Liandrin is slightly older and became Aes Sedai earlier she may have been working to get Mo to reach her full potential similar to her mentorship of Nynaeve.  Mo would also have been a highly sought after recruit for black ajah because of strength and family background.

I believe this is true as I recall in season 1 when Nyv is talking to Liandrin. Luandrin talks about Moriane and it was like her and Moriane might have been friends until Moriane chose the Blue Aji.

Yes, I too was confused by the "Eye" section. I enjoyed the acting but am confused by exactly why they went to there, was it just a plot by Ishy to get the DR there, and what were both Moraine's and Ishy's expectations about what could happen at the Eye.  I've watched the ep. twice and still aren't sure.

Please help if anyone knows a good breakdown.

I am a non reader but to me it was a plot to get the dragon reborn there. Moraine only went there bc Suiane told her to. Min told her the Amirilyn seat would be her downfall. She is now banished from the tower with no power bc of the Amirilyn Seat. This E8 definitely put a sour taste in my mouth and I know nothing about the book. So tired of Naneyeve with all the power and the rest just look like watchers. Even Moraine whose suppose to be a great Asedai. Looks like a joke.. lol

  6. Being a non reader and reading readers comments seems that the TV series is a bit choppy and the series need more time to develope the series. Thus the changes and the rushed scenes that some are pointing out. They picked the wrong fantasy book to turn into a TV series. The books seem lengthy and detailed. Dealing with budgets just not going to create what the book described too expensive.

I just wished that money was not an issue as well as covid. The idea of the show seems like a good one just a tall task for tv.

I think Moiraine gave a pretty good warning because basically the course of her life was changed by standing in the room with those two so she wasn’t killed but it wasn’t because Ishamael couldn’t kill her and I thought this was the interesting part is he thought what he did was worse and I kind of agree with him he took the one power from her but if she was stilled she wouldn’t feel it anymore now she feels it always just outside her reach but can’t touch it. Like always being thirsty but never being able to drink water. So I think that was the comment about almost being able to touch it, he could have killed her, stilled her or shielded her and he felt this was worse and went with it and told her why he chose it.

The reason I agree with him is we know Nyneave can eventually heal stilling but Ishamael is commonly looked at as the second most powerful channeler in all of history to the dragon except he also has the full understanding of the AOL and thousands of years of experience so it may actually be easier to heal a stilled person that trying to undo a tied off weave of the second most powerful channeler of all time at the peak of their powers. Basically it may take an end game Rand to get rid of this if she is lucky or more likely we may see other people that were stilled get healed but this being harder or impossible to get rid of because of who did it. So I think that was a pretty good warning because everyone that went there except from Rand had their life changed in pretty horrible ways and IMO the only reason Ishy didn’t kill her was that he considered this was worse because she could always feel what she lost.

Yes and with this happening so soon what will be her use from here on out. I guess I will have to wait and see. I hate that it happened to her. She was prepared to die, but not to be powerless.

  8. I am a non reader, and I like the show but E8 was disappointing to me. E7 was good and I couldn't wait for E8. After watching it I was left puzzled. Not reading the books I really have nothing to compare to. I understand from reading the comments that the book is about the 5 kids of two rivers, but I really love Moraine character and Matt. Nan is my least favorite character, but the way the show is depicting her she is centered and looks like she is the most powerful.  Even Moraine looks like her knowledge is not of much use. Lessening her importance and the Aes. I get that things have to cut but like most have said they need more episodes to explain and develope the characters more. I mean if Rand is the main character he should be focus more not Nan. I like the Moraine idea, since she is the best actress and somewhat the leader.  Not reading the book tho I don't know how much attention was given to Moraine.

Training at the tower? Show-wise, Siuan should resign and give the Seat to the EF girls, who are way better than any living AS. They do not need any training: they can already instant-heal from near-death  and unleash devastation to the enemy.

It's like if in GoT 1st season, when  Merin Trant comes for Arya Stark, she doesn't run away but takes the sword from Syrio and kills the knight in 5 seconds.

Yes, I agree. What is the use of Moraine and the other Aes if the 2 girls can do everything. The show seems to be centered around them for now.

  10. I am a non book reader. I am somewhat confused. Moraine is my favorite character so now that she is stilled what will be her role? I was expecting a better cliff hanger.episode 7 was a bigger cliff hanger than E8. Just ki d of meh. Too much dreaming. The king of the city dying so easily. Naneyeve seems to be the most important character and I dislike her. I like the show just disappointed in E8.

That is a fascinating observation.   While I doubt that the death of one Aes Sedai can effect the power levels of another Aes Sedai - i am aware that this is feasible in other fantasy works, so I would not be surprised that either (a) nod was tossed in or (b) people unfamiliar with the books thinking of this.   In fact maybe someone more versed in WoT lore can specify if this happened for Forsaken - ie did their power levels change after their re-birth.   If that was true that would add some extra incentive for some Forsaken to betray their brethren.

Regardless, and I have no desire to spoil the books for you, should you choose to read them, but Nynaeve like Egwene can listen to the wind which is basically another term for a person who can channel, so Nynaeve already had her power, it was simply blocked by a combination of lack of training and need of an emotional key to unlock.

That would make since lack of training bc Moraine told Egwene that the wind listens to her not her listening to the wind. I guess that's part y nynaeve wasn't  channeling.

I am a non reader. I thought she inherited Kerene channeling power when she died. There was a flash of light what went inside of naneyeve...lol I'm just an observer.
