About Eskander

  1. Even if that is the case, it doesn't detract one iota from my enjoyment of reading through her experiences. Though I am curious, where did she state that she is currently rereading the series? At the beginning of the blog, she said that she had never read the series before and I take her at her word. I will admit that I'm impressed at her ability to analyze the text and reach conclusions that are correct more often than not. For myself, I realize that there's always going to be someone out there who has more ability than I do to divine information and construct theories, and so I leave it at that. Regardless, I think the blog is just wonderful :D But to each their own.
  2. I'm glad you enjoy the blog. She is very perceptive and it's difficult for me to keep a smile off of my face when I get the chance to read it. Her comments regarding Rand and his problems with garden walls is pretty funny.
  3. I'll be sure to do that. I've just been so busy that I haven't had much of a chance to delve into the different social groups. I'm glad you enjoyed our state!
  4. Hi and be welcome! The piano is my favorite instrument right behind the cello. Now if only I could play ...or even read music! What kind of music do you like? I've always enjoyed listening to Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Venetian boat songs and anything else that seems whimsical or sad (at least how I interpret it).
  5. Thank you all for the warm welcome! I wish I had come here sooner... If only there were enough adjectives to describe how awesome that experience is. When I first came through the forests on the south rim and glimpsed it, I lamented the fact that my poor eyeballs weren't larger. It was just so much to take in. Seeing a photograph and actually going there is like comparing a candle to the sun. I've been playing older games like Baldur's Gate, Arcanum, Syberia, and Neverwinter Nights. Recently, I upgraded my PC so I've been playing Dear Esther and the Witcher. I'm also heavily eye-balling Skyrim and learning how to apply mods for maximum spectacle. It will be my first time so I'm eager to say the least. What games or genres of games do you enjoy? It's a rather popular name and I'm surprised it was available. Eskander is the name the ancient Persians gave to Alexander The Great. My middle name is Alexander and being something of a lazy history buff the handle seemed appropriate.
  6. Welcome! I'm glad that you're enjoying the series. I do recommend though that you refrain from reading too much material from other sources for fear of spoilers. Remember that you only get to be new to this once and for once ignorance is a good thing!
  7. Despite being new to this community, I've been a long time enthusiast of the series, having first started my journey in 2005 while attending university. I wish I could thank the girl working as a cashier at the diner in my dormitory for recommending it! I never thought a story like this could have such a profound and lasting impact on my life -but it did. Like a favorite song or any other piece of art that, after spending so much time with it, becomes a part of your heart . Since this is an introduction I'll start by saying that I like long walks on the beach at sunset ...well, maybe long walks on the craggy hard dirt that has ankle twisting rocks of happiness jutting out every five inches -but it's okay! Because like the Aiel I enjoy living in the middle of the waste Arizona desert. Video games, Magic The Gathering, Books, Hiking, all stuff I like! And yes, I have bathed in a sweat tent. I look forward to participating here. Cheers.
  8. I would like to see you keep updating your experiences with the series as well. Enjoying something you love is great ...but being able to enjoy it with others and share it makes it that much more special.
  9. There's a thread on this forum discussing a reader's first time experience with the series and it reminded me of a blog I happened upon some little time ago while scouring the internet for WoT related material. http://neuxue.tumblr.com/WoT-liveblog I'm honestly hopelessly in love with it, as the writing and analysis are top-notch quality and sprinkled with humor throughout. Lia (the author of the blog) manages to convey her excitement and pleasure of the reading experience in a manner that mirrored my own excitement so many years ago when I first began my journey reading WoT. I think some of the best parts are when she covers the chapters "The Road to the Spear," "The Dedicated," and of course "Dumai's Wells." So give it a shot!
  10. I like bad guys and girls! So I'll have to go with Graendal. I've always enjoyed the scenes that she inhabits in the series. Unlike some of the other Forsaken, she's just so utterly creepy, not to mention an extremely capable and brave fighter. Something about her eagerness to strip the will from other people using compulsion just makes my skin crawl. None of the other Forsaken are as scary as this. She surrounds herself with hundreds of these unlucky individuals that have had their minds destroyed. We can also infer from Sammael's PoV that she probably murdered all of their children as well after collecting them. I just. Ugh. What a great villain!
