  1. The last twenty minutes had been a blur, the Mistress of Novices, as she was called, had been listing off rule after caveat after addendum about Tower policy, curfews, regulations, classes and a battery of other things that Bronwyn had been attempting to listen to and remember. Yet the volume of information was staggering and she doubted she’d be able to retain even a quarter of it all past this afternoon. Although uncharacteristic, Bronwyn was thankful for the quiet walk she had shared with young woman in white who was to be her mentor.

They had passed a few people while walking through the Tower, aside from the occasional stare at the bright reds, yellows and blues of her clothes which stood out brilliantly against the plain whites of nearly everyone else, not a single person was smiling. At least Lillian wasn’t upset when she had occasionally fallen behind to gawk at the magnificence of her new surroundings, her new home. Although the colouring was quite dull, there was a quiet sense of elegance to the whole place. Her room would need some work as there wasn’t a speck of colour to be found anywhere. Perhaps Lillian would know where she could find some paint.

“I’ll dance with a girl with eyes of brown, or a girl with eyes of green.”

There wasn’t much space in the room, especially if the other two beds were going to be occupied. Bronwyn folded neatly all but one of her new white dresses and placed them in the top drawer of the cabinet. Atop the cabinet she rested the fiddle case that had been strung over her should for most of the day, she didn’t really like parting with it, but she assumed it would be safer here than in the bath.

I’ll dance with a girl with any colour eyes but yours are the prettiest I’ve seen.

I’ll kiss a girl with hair of black, or a girl with hair of gold.”

Something flicked in the back of her mind, something about punctuality, the People never rushed and were always laid back, but she decided it would be good not too dawdle.

As expected, Lillian was waiting just outside the door for her when she opened it mid song. Remembering how quiet their trip through the halls was Bronwyn consciously shut her lips. Of there were more stares and as the two weaved their way round the complex maze. Most like very few had seen a Tuatha'an before.

She had no doubt she’d be dependent on Lillian for quite a few things during her stay here, the least of which would be for directions. Buildings without wheels were a novelty for Bronwyn and she’d never even seen a building with more that 2 stories in her life. There was no way she’d remember how to get back to her rooms after taking all these turns and stairs. Every floor looked the same, and all the doors were identical. It was amazing they weren’t lost already, well, for all she knew they could be. At least the bathing room was distinguishable from the rest of the place, not for its outside appearance but for the heavy warm and damp air that grew thicker with each approaching step.

The bathing room itself was quite a shock, a large pool built from salamon coloured marble and granite. Bathing in a bucket was luxury to the People, most often it was in the river which was always cold, but the warmth in the air told that this would be different. A few deep breaths of the heavy wet air filled her lungs and grew a smile on her face.

Lillian had already made her way into the water and Bronwyn took her invitation to come as well. She left her clothes in a pile on the bench with the towel that set out for her, a blur of colour beside a multitude of white linens and salamon tile.

    OOC:

    Ok. Better.. ish.

  2. The plan was to come and find a new life, to get a way from the poverty and prove that she could do better, prove that she was not worthless. Yet here she sat, slouched in the dark on a pile of straw and refuse that buffeted her travel weary muscles from the unevenly spaced hard cobbles that paved narrow corridor between two buildings. Long shadows were cast over her, hiding her from the dim glows of lamplights inside a few of the buildings across the street. What a bloody foolish plan.

The pangs of hunger in Chandra's belly had begun to take on voices of their own. Gentle nudges at first, reminding her that it had been more than a day and a half since she was able to scrounge up enough coin to pay for a small loaf of bread. She had tried to refrain from pilfering the food, or the coin for that matter - a new life truly needed to be new. Alas, there were relapses, but she could live with that. Now the voices, angry shouts, were telling her to do whatever was needed. It was times like these when she would have stolen a pear from a child's hands just to quiet the excruciating yells from her stomach. Of course, even though the full moon's light washed over the city, giving the streets that eerie illumination that lets travellers travel after dark, it was far too dark out for any child to safely meander the streets. Easy prey like that wouldn’t show till the morning and she doubted her stomach would let her wait that long.

Then, just above the horizon of her hearing and just barely louder than the background buzz of the city’s life, Chandra heard a scuffling of boots along the cobbles. The scuffling was uneven, a few footfalls followed by a pause, a tell-tale sign that she had seen and taken advantage of many a time back in the Rahad. But there was more than just the sound of scuffling. Two other sounds filled the air: The first was a disconcerting ringing and scrape, as if a knife were being dragged along a brick. The second, and the one that set her mind afire, was the tinkling jingle of coins rattling in a purse. Quickly Chandra formulated a new plan a simple plan. She would lie in wait, and when the person came into view she would pounce, using her speed to catch them off guard. Knock them down, flat on their backs and take the purse. Then run as fast a she could until she found a place to eat. Yes, it was good and simple plan.

She could tell the person was coming closer, not just from the sounds, but from the shadows. The person was hugging the wall, trying to stay concealed in the darkness, but on occasion a long shadow would bob up into the light and betray its owner’s position.

Chandra waited, crouching like a ratter cat awaiting its prey, her muscles were taught, twitching and trembling from exhaustion. Her heel was rubbing against some of the refuse lying on the ground creating a chaffing sound.

Her opening arrived, the person was just in front of her and she wasted not the opportunity. Like a coiled spring, she shot out of the darkness, refuse flying behind her, out into the light and then again into another pool of darkness. She lunged forward planning to knock the person down while they were unprepared. Just before she made contact the person turned and swivelled out of the way. The new plan, just like all of her plans had just failed.

Her prey, the victim, had continued to spin around and was now behind Chandra. When the painful shock hit her back she knew instantly that she should stop wasting her time with bloody plans. The sound that accompanied the pain in her back scared her more than anything else, like a stalk of celery being snapped in half, she prayed to the Creator that it was just a rib and not her spine. She fell to the ground and rolled onto her back - a place and position she was growing far too familiar with in the past few weeks.

Chandra could barely make out the silhouette of her intended victim leaning over her but she could see an arm raised, ready to strike. She tried look into the person’s eyes, to size up her opponent, but all she could see was a glinting refraction of torch light that she couldn’t understand. “WAIT!†Chandra cried out, trying to buy herself some time while her nimble but trembling hand slid down to her hip to grasp onto one of the mismatched daggers that had served her well back home. But this place, Tar Valon, wasn’t the Rahad at all.

OOC: Hi! ^_^. I just wanted to say thank you to all of you, especially Seia and Moridin! I understand that helping out with boring old trainee requirements may not be the most entertaining thing, so I really want you to know that I appreciate it!. And Cale, Thanks!. ^_^

    -Chandra

    Morgan's newest bundle of responsibility.

  3. Odette had been so exhausted and how of her senses that her blanket was still bundled tightly with the rest of her meagre belongings. She herself was curled painfully up in a ball behind a boulder just big enough to cut the early morning wind that would periodically howl past her ears. The ground had been dry, but when mixed with the warm sweat that had covered Odette in an uneven sheen it covered her arms, dress and the right side of her face with a crumbly peel of brown.

The sound of jostling as something was tossed on the ground beside her gently nudged Odette out of the shallow sleep that had taken over her after her dash through the twilight. Despite the discomfort the ground provided, her sleep had left her quite refreshed. As far as she knew, her crystal blue eyes were sparkling in the morning sun as she snapped them open to stare at the wild man Eyota sitting perched on the boulder she had instinctively used as a meagre form of shelter. It was almost as if the mere presence of the man brought out the beast that was burrowed deep inside her. She could feel it starting again, feel her upper lip curling ever so slightly, higher on the left than on the right and exposing her miniscule canine.

    "Wait for one second"

Odette fought to resist, but the unquestionable need to obey and listen was too strong. Sprawled on the ground, knees and hands rubbing the ground as she scuffled back a few inches. Even her head seemed to droop down ever so subtly, implying that she would, indeed, wait.

"I've told you only truth, and have done nothing but try to help you. Understand that until you understand completely what has happened to you you're not safe here, or at your home. People fear what they do not understand. Come with me where you will be safe and we can help you to learn. I can't and won't force you, but I know even in this state you can feel the danger that your mind is in, if not your physical body. I'm going now, Randon will stay with you, if you choose to come he will lead you to me and keep you safe until we are united." And with that, Eyota seemed content to leave, letting the wolf he share a bond with appear out of the thick that he had just entered.

Now laying beside her, in the not so quiet forest, with the high pitched twerping of young birds eagerly awaiting their mother's return, sound of water cascading over stones in a river not too distant and the occasional rustling of leaves and twigs as some animal would skitter across the ground were the two wolves she had met earlier. To her right, the bigger of the two, sat Randon, who seemed content to simply sit there and wait for her to move. He sat with confidence, simply waiting for her to realize that she was indeed going to follow him back to Eyota. And to her left was Tail Chaser, who was twitching uncomfortably, obviously eager to be up and on the move again.

Forgetting about the wolves was impossible, but she was able to block out the sounds in the forest as Odette rolled over to sit on her backside and scooted up against the boulder. The whole scenario was ridiculous, everything Eyota had said sounded so far-fetched and unbelievable. Yet here she was, sitting in a forest, having only just woken up from another night with dreams filled with wolves. Here she was sitting, not four feet from wild animals on each side of her. How could it be a lie if some of it were true? And if some of it could be true, then could it all?

Hours had passed and none of the trio had moved much save Odette when the morning's hunger pulled her towards the dried venison laying a few feet away. The same argument kept running through her mind. I have no reason to trust him, but he has no reason to be lying. In its own way it was very compelling in its complexity. Eyota could gain nothing from her, she couldn't help him survive and she would be dependent on him, if anything she would be a burden. And then there was the gnawing fact that he hadn't lied. These wolves, they were his friends, and somehow she felt connected to them as well.

She couldn't pinpoint the exact justification she gave herself for getting up and following Randon, curiosity would have been nice but there was more to it than that. But whatever the reason, she was again closing in on the faint smell of burning spruce. It was beginning to become a familiar, a scent that makes you long for more when it first wafts into your nostrils. When she finally came to the clearing where Eyota had made camp, she could see him sitting patiently with a pleased grin on his face. A grin that said 'I'm glad you made it back. I'm proud of you'.

"Could you tell me a bit more about this place." Odette stammered out when she was within a few feet of him, the words cautiously exiting her mouth. "About this sanctuary like Stedding you mentioned? Please, I'd like to know more."

OCC: Sorry!. I know it's late. I've been really really really busy this past week. It won't happen again. Promise! ^_^

  4. Also' date=' though my understanding of the presently standing Manetheran may be slightly... off... Seeing the previous occupants, the King and Queen quite obviously, would prove an incredibly interesting RP, but that would have to be at New Man. So would this just be for the Stedding, or have I missed something again?

    Erik[/quote']

    *blink*

You just stole the thoughts right outta my noggin! ^_^. I thought it would tie in fantastically with the big Manetheran RP everyone is talking about. But I was also thinking of having a few Manetheran soldiers showing up. (Soldiers live's must be pretty haunted, no?)

    Anyway, that's all I have ^_^

  5. Hi ^_^

I'm going on vacation for a week. I'll be leaving tonight and I'll be back around the 12th. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes for those involved in threads with me.

If any of you are feeling stressed from life or the RP, please take solace in the fact that I will be relaxing and being served free drinks on a warm tropical beach with white sand and a sapphire blue ocean.

    Love, Odette

  6. The leather cords that were wound tightly around her bundle were pressed against her chest, releasing the store of cold they had gained from exposure to the crisp spring air through her the worn cloth of her dress. A mother cradling her newly born child, Odette clutched tightly the bundle to her red bodice like it were as precious as the world itself. In a way, it was - it was her world. The few remaining artifacts of her life were tucked away safely inside that bundle.

The bundle itself was a small blanket she had brought with her, to stave off the chill during the cold Saldaen nights. Wrapped inside was a cloak that was needed to keep her warm during the brisk mornings on her journey. The later was no longer needed now that the journey had taken them far enough south and the season had turned to full spring. Buried inside those two layers of cloth were two objects: a small flute of Carhienien make and chunk of crumbly cheese. Both of which were integral parts of Odette's world.

The flute itself, housed inside a small wooden case, was small and intricately designed. Despite it's delicate construction, the only songs that Odette knew were harsh Saldaean songs of battle and glory, suited for an audience of hardened travelers and brash aspiring young soldiers. The cheese in contrast was hard, dry and moldy.

At first she had been saving the cheese for herself. There had been no reason to share it, she had only trusted Eyota enough travel with him without fear of being harmed during her sleep - there was no reason to share her cheese with such a strange stranger. But like the rest of the things in her life, in her world, that changed too. Gradually and naturally, like autumn encroaching on summer's end, her trust in Eyota had grown to implicity. To have shared a meal of that cheese would have been a blissful respite from both the mundane travels and the bland meals of dried venison and foraged greens. But sharing that meal would have been tantamount to confessing that she had been selfishly harbouring her precious treasure, risking damage to the fragile kinship Eyota and she were developing. Instead, Odette kept the cheese hidden, letting it fester alongside her guilt ridden conscience.

There was, of course, a new world to explore here in the Mountains of Mist. The sharp pungent scent of the Saldaean spruce was replaced with the overpoweringly sweet balsam of brilliant green poplars. The wind wasn't a cutting bitter blade but a wash of warmth. Smells were stronger. Everything looked sharper, cleaner and more vibrant, even the sun seemed larger, it's crisp golden rays penetrating deeper. Eyota was a part of this new world too, in a way, he was almost the centre of it. It was he who had helped her understand who she really was, he had held her hand as she crossed the threshold into this new realm. It was he who was introducing her to the changes, the smells, the sounds, and to the wolves.

With each step, Odette grew more hesitant, each step brought them closer and closer to the place that Eyota called home. She clutched tightly to the bundle still in her arms, a small bubble of her old world threatening to wink out as the new world relentlessly expanded. A wafting warm breeze carried the scent of fresh water to Odette's nostrils. From what Eyota had told her, there must be a lake just beyond the trees ahead of her, and that lake marked the outskirts of the Stedding. Almost home.

Eyota had taken the lead, for being so close to his home had filled him with a renewed vigor. It seemed their proximity hadn't gone unnoticed either. Odette could see the smile on Eyota's face expand when the gruff grey wolf came bounding it's way towards him.

The cadence in Odette's chest fumbled twice. Once when the grey wolf swung it's attention to the tattered hem of her skirts as they billowed slightly with the wind. Then again, when a woman's voice cut through the woods. "Welcome home, Eyota," the woman called out, making her appearance just to the south. "I see you've brought us a new Wanderer." Odette had tried to brace herself, tried to prepare and not be shocked. She had gotten used to looking into Eyota's eyes, but to see another person with those golden pools of liquid fire truly drove home the fact that this was real. Odette could only stand there doe-eyed as the woman, Janna as Eyota introduced her, exchanged pleasantries.

"Welcome to the Stedding, Odette. If your headed to the Infirmary I'll come along" The question seemed almost rhetorical, since the infirmary, was indeed the place she and all other wanderers were sent.

Despite their golden hue, Odette felt a wisp of green-eyed contempt welling up inside of her when Janna fell in step beside Eyota. Shoulder to shoulder the pair walked ahead, casually discussing the tedious events that had passed during Eyota's absence. Here she was, this crippled chit, whisking away the centre of her world with the same indifference as she held the sad limp trout that was dangling from her malformed arm.

At least she still had Tail Chaser who had finally made his appearance. His front quarters were dropped to the ground and his tail twitching slightly, Odette knew he was about to pounce. His playful manner was always welcome, and sometimes Odette was convinced there was a calculated intelligence behind his play, always seeming to come when the time was needed. Indeed, a pearl of wisdom, the young at heart will play and that was his nature. Odette was just beginning to understand, still a grain of sand amidst her cluttered mind, she at least let Tail Chaser's sense of play invade her.

Tangled in her skirts Tail Chaser pulled Odette to the ground. She couldn't help but let escape a laugh as Tail Chaser's hair brushed against her bare leg, while desperately clinging to the world she clutched in her arms. Tail Chaser was indignantly shaking his head about trying to escape the snare of her skirts. Both Janna and Eyota turned their heads to look back at the commotion.

The obliging smile on Eyota face told that he was pleased his new charge was in better spirits. "Are you coming Ms. Odette Rachma? Or would you prefer to idle the day away rolling around in the dirt?"

Odette returned a flash of a smile and made her way back onto her feet, not bothering to brush the dirt of her heavily travel stained clothes. "I'm coming, don't worry." She said before leaning down and giving a gentle shove to Tail Chaser's shoulder.

The trio continued on along the meandering path, weaving through the breaks in the trees. Janna and Eyota talking the entire way, speaking of names and places that were unfamiliar to Odette, and would remain unless she made this place her new home in her new world. For the most part Odette ignored them, preoccupied by trying to dance out of the way when Tail Chaser would attempt another pouncing.

Then, as magical as Eyota had described it, a small village nestled away an the base of a mountain, appeared as they came around a bend in the path. "And this Odette, is the Stedding." Eyota's arms spread out, and Odette followed them as the arced across the village's landscape. "Are you ready? The Sages are no doubt very eager to meet you." Odette nodded her acknowledgment and followed as Eyota led his way to the building he referred to as the Infirmary.

OOC: Sorry about the delay, in addition to computer problems, I'm not that fast. Hope it's ok! ^_^
