  1. It’ll be interesting to see how they pull this off. This series has a lot of unique cultures and norms that if done incorrectly could have people standing around for the entire episode explaining everything, or they dumb it down so much that they eliminate everything that makes TWoT special.

  2. Watching the Lord of the Rings, and am upset, disappointed, and resigned at why nothing has happened with this franchise.

I just know that with all the big budget productions with fantasy, science fiction, and comics, that when these genres and all the big budgets run dry that is when someone will try and adapt this series, and it won't be any good.

I hope that Bandersnatch counter-sues Red Eagle Entertainment to get their rights back.

  3. The Wheel of Time is potentially worth a lot of money and REE knows it, which is why they want to retain the rights. Unfortunately, they don't know what to do with it. Which is pretty obvious considering how long they have had the rights and that this last second production on no budget is their first and only attempt at adaption.

Hopefully, something worthwhile comes from this though. I truly hope that whatever REE did wasn't enough to retain the rights, and that another company has the opportunity to adapt this franchise.

  4. Their blog says:

    • A Hugo Voter Packet of nominated works will be released as soon as it is available. The availability of nominated works is dependent upon the generosity of the authors, artists, publishers, and rights holders, and no work is guaranteed to be in the Hugo Voter Packet. Only eligible voters (voting members of the 2014 Worldcon) will be given access to the Hugo Voter Packet.
  5. Does A Memory Of Light deserve a Hugo? Absolutely.

Does the entire series? Absolutely not.

I actually disagree with you. I came to the series really late, and read the first 10 books back-to-back-back, and the only books that I thought were really slow were Path of Daggers and Crossroads of Twilight. For the record, I thought they were slow, not necessarily bad. In other words, I enjoyed 12 of the 14 books. That's pretty good.

  6. Channeling will be lost because it will become obsolete; however, technology won't be the reason. If people are right and we are living in the First Age then eventually we will discover the One Power, and use that as a clean power source to run our cars, planes, and other gadgets. The One Power is also free, so there would be more interest in learning to channel than there is in the books now.

Rand's lighting of his pipe may be the discovery of a new power source. Perhaps when Rand weaved the threads of the pattern to create the Dark One's prison he inadvertently created/discovered the new power. It may be that Rand is not the only one who can use this new power source, and if that is true, then channeling would be rendered obsolete.

Lets remember that after the 7th Age comes the 1st Age, which must mean that man became so powerful that they destroyed one another and everything in between. So it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that man keeps getting stronger with each age.

  7. I'd like to point out that in the Qur'an Jesus is known as Isa, and unlike the New Testament he didn't die on the cross, but instead God replaced Jesus with a criminal. In other words, body swap.

I like how RJ was able to incorporate Jesus of Christianity and Jesus of Islam into his story. Very clever.

Anyways, I do think that Nakomi has something to do with the pattern or creator. I don't think that she was responsible for the body swap, instead I think that Rand swapped bodies the same way that he lit the pipe. Which by the way I believe he accomplished using the Flame and the Void. After all it was mentioned in EotW that you can accomplish anything with the Flame and Void.

  8. I attended the Minnesota signing on Tuesday, and the size of the crowd really surprised me. I missed the last WoT signing there, and remember piles of signed copies of Towers of Midnight laying around the day afterwards. I also attended a signing by GRRM a few years ago, and there were only around 100-125 in attendance, granted it wasn't for Dance with Dragons, but it was still a signing with GRRM. I was expecting a similar crowd.

I called B&N late Tuesday morning to find out if I needed a ticket to get my book signed, which I did. I cruised over there and got my book and ticket at around 1PM. I initially expected to get a really low number 20-50, or maybe even lower, but while waiting in line, I noticed close to 50 reserved copies of AMoL. My number was in the 200s, and not only that, but there were people already in the seating area waiting! I decided to wait in the coffee area and work on school work, around 5:30 there was only about 60 people there, so I left for a few hours, returning at 7PM.

Sometime after I left and before I returned attendance exploded. By the time I returned there had to have been around 500 people in attendance, many scattered throughout the store reading their books on the floor. Not only that, but now people were wandering around looking for copies of AMoL to purchase, of which there were none because those huge piles of books had been sold.

It was a fun event, even though it wasn't the most talkative crowd I have been around. I suppose that was understandable since many were nose deep in the final Wheel of Time novel, some of which finished the novel before the signing ended!

  9. Dragonmount dropped the ball that's for sure. I'm not upset at anyone, I'm just stating the facts. The people of Dragonmount agreed to organize an event, at which expectations were raised, and not met. It really is as simple as that. Lets be honest those expectations were not sky high either. This is the third time they have organized this event, so many of these problems probably have been encountered before. My point is I wouldn't get too down on people like Wintersong for being upset and let down. The good folks at Dragonmount did it to themselves.

Oh, and all this talk about them organizing this event for free, out of the goodness of their hearts, is probably hogwash. Tor is a huge publisher, and AMoL will surely be their largest selling book for months to come, so rest assured they are getting compensated, perhaps not with a paycheck, but compensated in one form or another. Besides, we all agree to do things for free that we are still held accountable for. I also realize that many people here feel that Jen and Jason are their friends, which is why they have rushed to defend them, however, the fact remains that they dropped the ball, and this is the fallout from it...
