  1. OOC: Drenn will be the perfect face to meet early on.

IC: Drenn was walking throughout the yards in his spare time looking for where he could begin to construct a house for himself. As asha'man it was time for him to make a place of his own. His main problem was the simple fact that space was becoming hard to find. when he had first arrived the farm had been exactly as the name would lead one to expect. Now it was slowly turning into a fortress. They had proper gates and walls now aswell as a thriving community inside them. He had seen Rion's new house in passing and found himself impressed. He knew Rion was strong in the power though he usually chose not to use it but the house showed that the man really could use his gift.

He was passing the travelling ground and noticed the familiar rotating light of a gateway appear. Drenn watched with eyes as black as death as an Asha'man and a couple of dedicated returned to the Tower acompanied by a new recruit. Drenn hoped this one made it through basic as they'd had a shortage of people surviving lately and as such not enough making dedicated. and even fewer dedicated made it to Asha'man so that left significantly low numbers. They were in bad enough shape as it was, should the Aes Sedai figure out where they were they would be in even more trouble. He had killed for the sake of himself and others before and he knew he would again but he wasn't sure if he could bring himself to kill a woman. Even one trying to kill him. Blood and ashes... he found himself more worried when he rethought it and realized he would.

While he'd been lost in thought another young man had approached the new recruit. He recognized the young soldier though he didn't know him too well. Actually, he couldn't even recall his name... He decided though that it would be best to get the new recruit oriented and find him quarters. Slightly adjusting the Myrddraal cloak on his shoulders he walked over to the recruit.

"Welcome to the Black Tower recruit. I am Asha'man Drenn Kolgren and if you will follow me I will lead you to what will be your new quarters." He kept an even tone but a firm gaze. He'd heard it commented that people really couldn't tell where he was looking due to his eyes being entirely black but they all knew when he was looking at them.

OOC: and now it's official. Welcome to the Black Tower.

  2. Drenn noted the fact that Linten seemed to ignore him. It was somewhat understandable as the last time they had spoken they were both only soldiers and far from any positions of power. In the time that Linten had been gone Drenn had advanced to Asha'man while Linten would return at his low rank. He might have even let it pass had he not seen the man quite obviously take in his Dragon pin collar. Linten knew what it meant and symbolized. Whether he liked it or not, Drenn was now his superior officer.

He suddenly realized he was stretching his fingers as if to grasp his sword hilt and relaxed them. If it came to it he would not deal with Linten via his sword this time. He was far from the most dexterous person with Saidin but he was one of the strongest Channelers in the Black Tower, and now he knew well how to use that strength. No, it was what Linten might do when he was not looking that worried him. He remembered all too well how the man had drawn his blade out of spiteful anger to attack an unarmed and defenseless man. It was something he would not forget. He vaguely remembered the argument and found himself slightly taken aback by the fact that he now stood on the opposite side. He didn't like the fact that he found himself somewhat agreeing with the man now facing him but there it was. He straightened himself and tried to seek a sense of calm within himself. He was letting the void slip around him with these memories.

His movement seemed to catch Linten's eye and the man glanced over at him and there was no mistaking the defiance in his gaze. Yes, there was no doubt Linten remembered their last encounter and would continue to remember it as would Drenn. He didn't like making enemies but he wasn't the "friendly" type. Linten's current behavior wasn't helping much either. It was obvious he was pushing him and seeing how far he could go before Drenn snapped. There was something in the look in Linten's eyes that made Drenn wish he'd shielded the man but he held back and decided it was only fair to give the man a chance to show his intentions. Linten turned his attention towards Isha and addressed the big man in a tone that seemed forcibly calm.

“As requested Asha’man Isha Talcontar so shall I do. If you will excuse me I will gather my things and return.†Drenn nearly snapped on Linten at that point. Everything before was tolerable but that was blatant disrespect. Drenn glared at Linten as the man made his way upstairs barely having acknowledged him at all. If this kept up he was going to have to set the man straight. Anger towards him was understandable but this was open belligerence and insubordination. He barely realized nor cared that his hands were balled up into fists.

“He seems to respond better to you Isha so either you reel in his behavior or I will.†It was a harsh growl and unlike before it was intended. His patience was at an end. Once again Drenn wished he had his cloak… He felt a sudden surge of anger at the thought of the cloaks previous owner. He would find that Fade and make him pay. That bloody forsaken too if he could ever get his hands on him… That in itself raised more anger at how easily he’d been swept aside and controlled. He’d been weak… He wouldn’t be weak again! Looking around he realized that both himself and Isha were simply standing there, lost in though “Blood and ashes,†he muttered, “Come on Isha. We need to go.â€

They stood outside waiting for a few minutes before the saw Linten appear, walking a slightly shorter-then-usual horse. Drenn found himself only slightly surprised at the horse but realized that Linten would hardly have mastered skimming or gateways so an alternate means of speedy travel was necessary. The man merely nodded to them before Drenn turned around and started back towards their designated Traveling area here. It was some ways outside the town so they had a bit of a walk ahead of them. Wrapped in the void Drenn could hear every step and every breath taken by the two men behind him and with Saidin nearly in his grasp he was ready should Linten try anything vindictive. His head was swimming with questions. Where had Linten gone and disappeared to? Isha was obviously greatly surprised by the man’s appearance. Why was that? Blood and ashes…

  3. Drenn was quickly growing bored of testing all these people in the inn they'd come too. He'd long since forgotten the name. It wasn't important. What was important was that they were turning up no results among this town's population. Not a single one of the lot could ever hope to channel. He briefly thought how lucky they were for that but pushed the thought aside. They needed more recruits in the tower. The number of recruits who weren't surviving was becoming a number too high for comfort. He avoided thinking about the taint and madness as if somehow by ignoring it wouldn't come too him. But he knew that wasn't true. He hardly ever slept anymore and when he did it was troubled by... nightmares. Or something of the sort… He could never remember what they were but what he knew for certain was the meaning of harm was more then an illusion. The pain was real. So he simply didn't sleep aside from when his body began to truly need it for survival.

Bad thoughts... His hand twitched to adjust the dragon pin that now adorned his high-necked collar but he stayed it for sake of not appearing shaken. He was an Asha'man now and he would be expected to act it. He glanced over at Isha. Isha had been through worse then he and here he was doing his job as Drenn was expected too. It was his first outing to gather recruits as an Asha'man and burn him if he wasn't going to do his job. He looked up to the next kid in front of him who seemed to almost be shaking as Drenn's eyes met him. Black eyes like his were not common. He felt the boy with Saidin but he found nothing and turned him away like all others before him. The boy moved away a little more quickly then was necessary but still slow enough that he was thinking he didn't want to offend an Asha'man. Drenn almost laughed but held back so as not to appear mad. He did enjoy the effect he had on others and non-channelers were all the more obvious about it. If only he'd been allowed to bring his cloak... But he had been told it would just be too much for some of these people. For starters being an Asha'man was enough for most but with his black eyes... They'd be scaring enough people off that they'd never find anyone. That was the main reason he hadn't done this before. He was a deterrent.

He was about to go back to examining the next man in front of him when he saw something that he had not expected and almost made him weave a shield then and there. The face was one he hadn’t seen in a long time. In fact he’d lost track of how long it truly had been. Time passed strangely for him now. But there was no mistaking Linten. Their eyes met and locked as they each remembered the other. The last time he had seen Linten he had been forced to draw his sword on the man in defense of Rion. He’d never really found out what had happened to Linten and given the way the man had been acting he really hadn’t cared. He’d merely dismissed him as another of the Towers regular losses. Seems he’d scratched him off too soon. He suddenly remembered though that Isha had been Linten’s Mentor. He broke their stare and glanced over at Isha. What would the giant man think about this? It seemed the question had gone through Linten’s mind as well as he stiffened up even more when his eyes fell on the man.

“Recruit Linten al’Dracain reporting. I stand ready for your orders.†Linten’s voice was perfectly calm but he could tell the man himself wasn’t. Drenn didn’t think he would be. The void was the only thing keeping face solid at the moment and he assumed it was only the same training keeping Linten’s that way. Isha on the other hand had a different reaction. As soon as he heard the voice and the words accompanying it he spun around, knocking his chair over to simple stare at Linten. His mouth worked wordlessly as he seemed unable to find his voice. Drenn knew there was more to this then he was aware of but for the sake of maintaining order he couldn’t let this confusion continue. He saluted Linten in return and even though Isha was his superior, Drenn took the lead.

“Recruit, You will return to the Black Tower with us promptly and report to the M’Hael for debriefing.†That would be the necessary formality. They had spent far too long in this little town without turning up any results and the few people left seemed to be re-thinking their decisions and were starting to leave. There was nothing else to hold them here and as such they were best leaving. "If you have any other belongings retrieve them now and report out front prepared to leave." His voice was harder then he intended but he was not about to change it now.

  4. OOC: I'm going to start my character off simply performing in an Inn and I think I'll use some warders and/or Sedai who show up as a reason to go onto the Tower to perform.

    IC:

Davin Dagonet strolled calmly but purposefully through the afternoon streets of Tar Valon, idly twirling his staff here and there about his fingers. There were people everywhere, clogging the streets as they went about their business. Some things never change. He thought to himself as he moved amongst them. Seeking out his target. A target he didn't know of but knew he would know when he saw it. He sought a specific type of Inn. It needed to have a significantly large common room to support enough people but it couldn't already be too populated. An innkeeper whose being brought a significant amount of custom when they have very little to begin with will pay far more handsomely then one who's used to always having patrons there.

He weaved amongst the people searching for his perfect Inn. Ducking into several buildings here and there to determine if it matched his requirements. Some were simply not large enough to support enough people to support him. Others were large but vastly popular so he knew wouldn't be as profitable to him. He had to also take the buildings external appearance to heart as well. A ramshackle building that looks to have been defecated on by the Dark one himself will not draw patrons even if the interior does match his needs. He passed several of those...

Finally he came across an Inn titled "The Merry Travelers Way". The outside could have done with a spot of paint here or there but it was still a fairly welcoming sight. A two story building with a slight overhang of the roof above the entrance. Perfect. He thought.

Stepping inside he quickly glanced about and evaluated his options. The common room was large. Plenty large enough to grant him the necessary space for his acts. it looked to be a once Grande Inn that was now falling behind others on some hard times. There were a few patrons sitting around drinking away the day but not enough to support an inn of this size. One man clearly drunk out of his mind stumbled around the room aimlessly glaring at different people and tried to pick a fight with one man who returned his gaze. Before anyone could get hurt though a slightly plump woman who was just beginning to go gray in her hair came up and grabbed the drunken man by the ear and dragged him off to the side. She started quietly berating him for his behavior and the more she went on the more he shrunk back and seemed to regret his behavior. Davin smiled. She was a woman who commanded respect merely by her presence no matter how diminutive it was. The drunken man towered over her small stature but by the time she was done she was looking down on him. It truly was an amusing sight though he held his face steady so as not to offend. She must be Cairhienin. Finally, finished scolding him he made his way uneasily upstairs. Now her gaze settled on him. It wasn’t a happy one.

“I’m sorry master Gleeman but I’m afraid we will not be requiring your services this evening.†A strong woman indeed, straight to the point without dallying on any unnecessary matters of fact. She also was quite prideful and obviously would not admit that her Inn was coming under hard times. He wondered if she was a player of the great game. It was always fun in dealing with a sharp mind.

“On the contrary Madame. I believe I am just what your Inn will be requiring tonight. But I am a fair man and of course will not set my own price but leave it up to you to determine a fair price come the end of the night. All I ask is that it include a bed. Do we have an accord?†he gave her his best smile at that point in hopes of giving an even warmer appearance. She frowned for a few seconds but then seemed to resign and nodded.

“We shall see what you can do Master Gleeman.†Now he smiled whole heartedly.

“Please Madame, call me Davin. If you would be so kind as to hold these?†He left her with his personal effects and with a grand flourish of his cloak, quickly swept out the door. Once outside he took in the Inn again, specifically the overhang over the entranceway. Now he studied the support beams holding it up and judged its security. It looked quite solid. Satisfied with hat he saw he backed up a bit to get a running start. Dashing towards the building he planted his staff in front of him and vaulted up towards the wall. Upon impact he immediately leapt off but angling himself slightly so as to reach the overhang which he landed on smoothly.

It was evening now and the sun was setting but it was the busiest time as now the rush to get home from whatever jobs occupied them all day left the streets even more crowded with people. Just what he had been waiting for… He had already attracted a fair amount of attention with his stunt to get up onto the overhang which was causing holdups from people who had stopped to look. Even better. It was now time to get everyone else’s attention.

“Good evening fair ladies and kind gentlemen. I beseech you all to draw your attention this way. Yes.†It would take more then words though to get their full attention. So out came magnificent multi-colored balls, which began to fly through the air in simple loops. “I invite you all to join me tonight for a grand celebration in which you will witness events that will mystify and astound your mind. Dazzle you senses and vivify the rest.†Some of those words would be lost on people but it was the important sound they created that drew attention even more. The balls began moving in even more intricate loops. “A show which you will remember through-out the rest of your days. With grand stories of all ages and types that will have you laughing in joy, and clutching a friend out of fear. With spectacles that will take you breath away.“ at this point he took the balls away one at a time, but every time one disappeared a knife would take its place until it was entirely knives flying through the air in those intricate patterns. Now he had them. “You will be enthralled by the sweet sound of music which will take your feet through dances you never knew you knew. You will tell your children stories of this night and even their children as well. A show fit for kings and queens. But performed for you.†He let that hang in the air for a few moments. He let how he was elevating them sink in. “Join me tonight friends and enjoy the grand show of Master Gleeman, Davin Dagonet, first hand for yourselves.†With that he leapt down in a flurry of flips and turns letting his cloak flare out as he descended. He knew that word would spread quickly and had made sure his name was part of it. There were some people who would want to know he was in Tar Valon and others who would be greatly displeased to learn it. Either way the game had begun.

As he landed he quickly dashed inside and made his way to the back of the common area. He moved some tables around here and there to open up a space for himself but still keeping the tables free enough to allow people to sit. He smiled as he saw a small raised platform leaning up against the wall in a corner. Precisely what he was looking for. Quickly he lowered the platform and set it up, grabbing a chair to place on top of it. Now he was set up. He quickly retrieved his effects from the Innkeeper whom he just realized he was not yet properly acquainted with.

“If you please Madame would you graciously grant me the courtesy of knowing for whom I work tonight?†She took a moment to respond as she seemed somewhat confused as to what he was doing with her Inn and somewhat disbelieving that it was to be of any effect.

“Trelly, Master Dagonet. Kathryn Trelly.†With a grand bow Davin planted a kiss atop her hand.

“And it is my greatest honor to make your acquaintance Madame Trelly. Now if you’ll excuse me I must be getting to work.†It was at that point that people began coming through the door and looking for seats. It was time to begin.

He quickly made his way to the seat at the head of everyone and retrieved his lute. He would begin with some music for the benefit of the arriving guests until he was satisfied with the numbers to truly begin the show. He picked a lively song to begin with so as to keep everyone in a bright mood as they were finding seats.

  5. You're very welcome. A little more activity is needed around here so that Joce and Rion no longer have the only active RP's. :P

And Estel, I know where you're coming from on that. sounds like my grade 8 year. Bloody nightmare that was... Had a grade 7-8 split... Though my time in the hall was punishment for a lack of tollerance for the arrogance of grade 7's. Kept using aspects of both languages that were not condoned by the school.

  6. Drenn kept trying to bring himself closer but direct thrusts towards him from Andar were making it difficult. The mans blade came back too quickly when he bashed it aside to allow him to close any more distance. After a few of those Ander spoke in a tone of calm, seriousness that surprised Drenn given the man being in a potentially bad situation for himself. A kind of calm that could only come from experience.

"Here it comes now Drenn. Do you think you can stop it?" Andar was making no jokes and nor was he bragging. Drenn knew the man was good for his word and he was filled with a mix of feelings. There was a level of nervousness about the fact that his mentor was getting ready to finish him but there was an excitement at the fact that this was what he was waiting for. This was going to be the pinacle of the fight and the ultimate test of what Drenn could do.

As Drenn pushed forward a final time another thrust came towards him. But instead of bashing it aside he merely pushed but held his blade and moved forward pushing both mens blades out to the side of them uselessly, bringing himself face to face with Andar.

"You will meet nothing short of my best." With a push he seperated from his mentor and prepared to close once again. Finalé or not he wasn't going to give up his only advantage. He didn't know whether or not his best would be enough but he would be proud to face his mentor's best. A strange calm settled over him as he approached.

  7. We'll see about that Isha. I know from playing football that the phrase "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" is very true. You've just got to know where to hit.

and Drenn is always open to new RP's. He's not always the nicest of people but he has a general "guardian" attitude towards most. Probably inspired by the guilt of his past. Just don't let his black eyes and Myrddraal cloak put you off to much. :P

  8. Thank you oh wise and great leader. I have a couple more question but I think I'll PM you(which I probably should have done before) instead of continue to detract from this already off topic thread.

So to finally bring us back. Whatever you decide to do Taea you WILL find support from everyone here *glares around to everyone else* so just make whatever you think you'll have the most fun with.

  9. So can I jump into it then? I guess I'll have to bow down to Rag when he comes back, but meh. Foiled again by talents... Too bad theres only one "alligning the matrix" position.

  10. Yay another person to torment... I mean... greet. Seems non-channelers are on the verge of becoming more common the us Saidin weilding nutto's.

And I think Drenn is pretty close to atleast matching you for being the hardest physical trainer Dash. Heck aside from playing with Saidin its almost all he does.

Hey! We should have a contest! Ya ya, I know you'd probably win but hey. I think Drenn would still give you a run for your money and It's something to do.

But anyway. So Serge is gonna have a sister? Well atleast it wont be weird if YOU'RE hitting on guys. Just hopefully not the same ones your brother is. :P

  11. Then I think I may take up the official position... unless there are objections of course.

Hey Rion, you should join me so we can add some muscle to you. Maybe it'll help make the voices shut up. :P

  12. Interesting idea actually. Reminds me of the fact that my character was a blacksmith before he came to the tower. Maybe he should set up a forge? Hey Dali, does the Black Tower already have a forge?

But there you go. You could set youraself up with a skilled trade like that or something. Opens up lots of alternate RP oppertunities.

  13. As if we won't have enough trouble on our hands with Lav coming... Now she's making a civi! this could be dangerous.

Back on topic... Make whoever the hell you want to RP. Do what you think you'll have fun with and if anyone gives you crap for it just make the character a bit more of a jerk towards said person. :P always fun...

  14. I was actually just about to post about doing a Soldier training course for that new guy aswell. If you're planning on running one too then how bout we both teach a large class? Me and WK did one before and it worked out pretty well. I beleive you were one of our trainees weren't you Jason? Or I could try doing a double lesson in which I could teach you a dedicated class of similar nature while teaching the other guys the basics. Let them see whats coming?
