  1. No, you don't. You still see most of what you saw before. Close one eye. How much less do you see now? Presumably, as you're reading this, your computer screen is in front of you. Now, while you lose a bit at the edges, what is right in front of you was seen by both eyes, so you still see it. So you have not lost half. Hmmm but... There's a certain amount of light entering one eye and with both eyes open there's a similar amount entering the other eye. Close one eye. There's now half the amount of light entering your skull. Assuming we're talking about light moving as a particle that is
  2. Also, bear in mind that it's only recently that the dark one has been touching the world again. Presumably until then you could say the word and suffer no ill effect. Maybe it's only really recently that when you say it you are "drawing the dark one's eye" in a manner that you really shouldn't. If this was the case then it would pass around the world in much the same way as "The Creator" - by stories and rumour.
  3. I LOVE that scene. It is definitely my favourite in all the books. Although I like it more for the soldiers' reactions rather than the fact Nyneave has "come of age". When they all stand up and start shouting about Malkier I actually felt shivers go down my spine and even (dare I say it) a tear in my eye! Was that in KoD because I don't remember reading anything like that yet. I'm on the last few pages of CoT. Yep, KoD - look out for it!
  4. Does anyone else think that RJ forgot that Thom was with Mat and Rand with Bayle Domon on the boat in teotw? Two things: He doesn't remember seeing the Tower of Ghenjei He doesn't seem to recognise Domon when he runs into him in Tarabon I'm sure there are perfectly reasonable explanations for these...
  5. This comes from the faqs: "This stanza deals with the Seanchan invasion. The "ancient tree" refers to Tarabon, whose symbol is a tree (supposedly a branch of the Tree of Life). The "seed of the Hammer" are the Seanchan, who claim to be Luthair Paendrag's descendants (Luthair was also known as the Hammer). Thus, the Seanchan have invaded Tarabon. The bit about "summer burn" most likely refers to the recent spate of DO-induced hot weather in Randland. The "bodies fail" bit doesn't seem to have come to pass yet; it's been suggested that there will be a plague of some sort. I have no idea what

  7. Does anyone else actually feel sorry for Galina when she gets caught by Therava again. I mean, I know she's black aja and all but I HATE Therava. She's so mean she could be BA too. I'd like to take her down a peg or two....
  8. AND he called her a "spoilt child". And shook her!
