  1. In TPoD we getg Egwene dreaming this;

    Mat, weighing two Aes Sedai on a huge set of balance scales, and on his decision depended...She could not say what; something vast; the world, perhaps.

    Are the two Aes Sedai the pair he rescued from the stables in Ebou Dar, or Verin & Moirainne? I used to be happy enough with the first thought but I think it fits the second situation a lot better. Mat had to weigh opening the letter and maybe leaving early to get Moirainne or not opening the letter and having a set time to fetch her. If he had gone with Verin's letter, he would have waited until the battle of Caemlyn was done before he left and this may have meant he wouldn't have been able to save Moirainne (or be back in time for FOM). Instead he bet on going into the ToG and so has saved the world.

  2. ok, well my follow on question from that is related to this quote from ACoS, chpt 19, when Annoura first meets Cadsuane, from Merana's POV

    "I am only here to advise Berelain, though the truth of it is, she ignored my advice by coming in the first place." The Tarboner woman held her head up, voice confident. She was rubber her thumbs for all she was worth, though. She could not do well at the negotiating table if she was that transparent.

    Then later

    Merana looked at annoura with interest. A good manyh of the Gray Ajah had scurried from capital to capital after the war, in a futile effor to hold together the alliance that had formed against the Aiel, but she had never known aAnnoura was one of them. She could not be that bad a negotiator if she was.

    Is the rubbing of the thumb, actually a cry of help in case either of them are Black Ajah? A thumb can be rubbed against the middle finger, thus causing the same action Delana saw, albeit a little more discretely.

    Another scrap to consider is the visits she paid to Masema in secret and him being controlled.

    I haven't seen the case for Annoura being a Black put forward, is it worth a little bit of merit?

  3. despite that, I've always thought that it fitted in with moirainne's comment that they will have to make the wind blow on their travels south again and that they will never know the full consequences of calling those winds (floods etc). I link those two together cos this is right before the news that the White Tower party has arrived and could well have been the tail effects of their wind. I prefer my explanation better, despite what RJ says :)

  4. Remember that because the gene for channeling/sparking just has to be present, there should be just as many male sparkers as female. If you look at how many female sparkers there actually are, I could expect 1 male every few? 30? years to realise what he is doing and learn to control it somewhat. Remember men who fight also get taught (sometimes) the Oneness, which will enhance their ease of learning to touch the source.

  5. As an addition to what PhoenixUK says regarding Verin's compulsion, when Moggy compels Liandrin to live, or "LIVE" as it is put in the books, she thinks to herself that the command will hold as long as somewhere in her, she wants it to. This indicates to me that even other sorts of compulsion (AOL versions) are still limited in that it can't be absolutely what the other person wouldn't do.

    Compel me to follow your orders? don't wanna! do it or die? hmm, maybe I will. BAM! you have me.

    That would be how I imagine a non-darkfriend, who knew who the forsaken was could be compelled
