  1. Days and nights still pass. You think they dont have a way of recording how many times the sun comes up? Weak
  2. With a wistful sigh Miryana paused in her morning ritual of tending her garden. Kneeling among the lush foliage behind the infirmary she raised her bronzed face and noted the time of day. “Well time to put this aside for now.” She muttered to no on in general. Two apprentices were nearby trimming back some of the dead plants so that the newly growing shoots could grow unhindered. Standing the Sage brushed the dirt off her green skirt and turned to walk thorough the back door of the building the Sage’s called home. Her copper hair was pulled back in a pony tail and tied with a strip of green silk. Pausing at the wash basin she rinsed the dirt from her hands and dried them. Stopping in the kitchen she filled a copper kettle full of water and hung it over the cooking fire. It was nearing midday and her stomach rumbled reminding her that she had not eaten that morning. The smell of fresh bread filled the kitchen and she decided she breathed the comforting smells in with a smile. Out in the main room of the infirmary several people waited in the seating area. Waving to them in greeting she told them she would be right with them. As soon as the water in the pot was hot enough she poured it into a cup with tea leaves. Taking a sip she let the warm liquid refresh her and walked through the swinging doors that separated the kitchen from the waiting area. OOC: Ok just a short set up so anyone who wants or needs a Sage can jump in then we can start separate threads if necessary. Happy New Year all!! pst me if you need a sage for another rp already going and I will be glad to jump in
  3. Nightsfire grinned as he approached inn anxious to have a cup of brandy or twelve. The music inside was just ending as he walked through the doors surprised to find the inn so full. Owen was present with Blaeric and several younger Wolfkin had decided to join them as well. Smirking he found Loerali at the bar in her usual spot no doubt already on her way to a pleasant buzz. Selecting a seat at the edge of the bar he called for a brandy and removed his pipe from his pocket while he waited. Lighting the pungent leaf he puffed slowly listening to another song as Lorelai droned on about some subject he could not understand so he tuned her out. It struck the Ranger how much things changed but at the same time remained the same as he studied the faces present tonight. Grinning as Blaeric passed he took a sip of Brandy. “Loose another contest to Owen I take it?” Blaeric’s scowl was confirmation enough and he laughed and drained his cup calling for another.
  4. Many Wanderers had graced her presence and most had been confused , angry and in some cases despondent. In Alaya Miryana senses distress and that troubled her deeply. “Child I will not let you die in the dream or even be harmed. I tell you these things to warn you, but I see I have become too lax in my duties and have instead frightened you.” Placing her hands on top of Alaya’s she smiled and tried to reassure the young woman. “I have an idea and would like your thoughts.” Alaya lifter her head and met the Sage’s eyes a hint of curiosity present. “I would like you to stay with me and become one of my assistants.” She sensed Alaya relaxing at last and pushed forward. “You can live here in the infirmary, I have a lovely room that can be yours and I will teach you what I know. I will guard your dreams until you are ready to understand them and we can get to know one another as you begin to understand your gift.” Leaning back in her chair she winked at Alaya. “I think it would do you good but I know how decisions these days seem out of your hands. This one I leave to you.”
  5. Miryana listened to the questions the young woman had and she ached for her. She had heard and seen the pain and fear in many Wanderers but it never stopped breaking her heart. “There, there child.” Handing her a handkerchief from her apron pocket she patted Alaya on the knee and offered her a reassuring smile. “You will not go mad or turn into a wolf. I know it is hard for you to understand right now but you have been given a gift.” She could see the doubt in Alaya’s eyes and encouraged her to take another sip of tea. “Yes a gift Alaya, one that very few people will understand or welcome but a gift none the less. With time and training you will be taught to understand these gifts and embrace them for what they are.” Leaning forward she examined the minor scrapes and cuts on the young woman’s arms and face. Thankfully they were not to serious and it appeared Lorelai had treated them. Removing a jar of pungent smelling salve from the table she began to gingerly apply them to the wounds. “Now as far as these dreams you are having. They too are a gift but one that can be dangerous until you are properly trained. Your communion with the wolves has allowed you to enter the wolf dream. While in these dreams you are in a place out of the waking world and subject to the rules within. You must take care to limit your time in the dream world until you can be trained. If you are injured or die in the wolf dream your corporeal body shall suffer the same.” Placing her hands on Alaya’s cheeks the Sage closed her eyes and delved her with her senses looking for injuries unseen by the naked eye. Declaring her fit in body if not yet in mind she leaned back and smiled her golden eyes sparkling. “Tell me have you been contacted by a wolf companion and given a name?"
  6. Kneeling in her garden behind the infirmary Miryana hummed softly as she tended the herbs. Working in the soil brought a great deal of serenity to the Sage and she spent hours here when her duties allowed her. Standing she brushed the dirt off of her skirt and put her tools away in the nearby shed. The wolves had sent her a message earlier that Lorelai was bringing a new Wanderer to her this morning. As much as she enjoyed her time in the garden she needed to be ready when their new addition was brought to her. Walking into the back door of the building that housed the infirmary and served as her house she washed her hands in the basin by the door. Reyala one of her apprentices was putting wood on the cooking fire and Miryana instructed her to hang a pot of hot water over it so she could offer tea to the new arrival. The smell of fresh baked bread filled the kitchen causing her stomach to rumble reminding her that she had neglected to eat breakfast that morning. Quickly she went to her room and changed into a forest green skirt and white blouse. Combing out her long red hair she tied it in a pony tail and secured it with a green ribbon. Satisfied she walked into the infirmary and found Lorelai standing there with a young woman several inches shorter than herself. Smiling she hurried forward and embraced Lorelai. “Welcome home we have gone too long without your presence my dear.” Lorelai smiled and introduced Alaya who stood quietly trying to take everything in. Miryana reached out and brushed a single tear from the young woman’s cheek. “Welcome home child. I know this is difficult for you and it will take time but you are with family now even if at the moment we seem strangers to you.” Calling for Reyala to bring cups of tea and fresh bread she led Alaya into a small private room off the main infirmary. Several chairs and a examining table filled the room and she asked Alaya to have a seat so that she could look her over for signs of injury or illness. “You may ask any questions that are bothering you my dear I don’t bite.” Winking at Lorelai she waited for Alaya to have a seat.”
  7. Stepping out of his cabin into the morning light Nightsfire breathed the cool air deeply into his lungs. The surrounding village was quiet this time of the morning as he walked toward the Ranger training grounds. Passing the infirmary he greeted Miryana who knelt in her herb garden tending the plants. Today he was to begin Medrin’s training to become a Ranger. The young Shienarian was ambitious and full of fire and promised to be an exceptional student. Entering the Ranger training grounds he nodded to Owen who was working with another aspiring Ranger on the archery range. Making his way toward the obstacle grounds he caught sight of his charge and smiled. Medrin still wore his hair in the Shienarian fashion his black top knot pulled tight up on his head. “Good morning Medrin I trust you are ready for a full day of hard work?” Medrin gave him a lopsided smile and nodded enthusiastically. “Good then we will start with conditioning followed by your first run at the obstacle course.” Leading the young man to the supply shack he retrieved two packs filled with dry rations and skin’s of water. Soon the two men were winding their way through the trails that led out of the grounds and into the nearby forested hills. “We will begin with a 5 mile run then I will let you have a go at the obstacle course I am sure you are eager to tackle.” OOC: I will get you a description of the course I have misplaced it since I bought a new pc
  8. Smiling Nightsfire stood and pulled Raithgar to his feet. “You have just begun your journey into a larger world my friend.” Leading the young man up a path that wound through the dense brush he discussed the advantages of using your other senses when one was used to relying on sight. “Your eyes can deceive you what you think you may see can often be misleading. By using your enhanced sense of smell and hearing you can discover that which would otherwise be hidden from you.” Emerging into a glen the Ranger scanned the ground until he found a herb he was looking for. Stooping down he picked it and held it out to Raithgar. “This is called goatsbane it has a particularly pungent scent.” Raithgar smelled the herb and his features winced at the unpleasant smell the herb gave off. Chuckling Nightsfire pulled out a strip of cloth from his pack and handed it to his student. “You will wait here I will go and find a place to hide myself not far from here. When you have counted to 300 tie that strip of cloth around your eyes. I will be carrying this herb with me and I want you to find me while blindfolded by using your other senses.” Without waiting for a response the Ranger slipped into the woods. There was a small cave in the hillside not far from his student and it was there he sat down to see if he would be found.
  9. Miryana sat in her cabin cross legged before the fire in the hearth. Her eyes closed she was in a deep trance. In truth she was not actually there but away from her corporeal body as she patrolled the wolf dream. Earlier she had sensed a Wanderer was in trouble after being warned of the situation by the wolves. Now she searched for the troubled girl using her skills acquired over her years of practice in mastering the dream. Zie was the girl she searched for and it was not long before the wolves led the Sage to where she was. The girl was in danger of loosing herself to the wolf side and could become feral if Miryana could not bring her back to herself. The danger of losing oneself to the wolf side was very real for new Wanderers. If it happened in the wolf dream the dangers were ten fold. Ahead in the misty darkness Miryana spotted Zie, the struggle between her humanity and wolf side was in full swing and the emotions she gave off were pungent.’ Using all her skills the Sage reached out to Zie and pulled the girl toward her the struggle she put up against her skills was impressive for a Wanderer. “Zie! You must listen to me and pay attention to my voice.” The girls head snapped up but she shook her head as if to dispel the Sage’s voice. There was no choice but to overwhelm the girl with her skill in the dream so she quickly bound Zie in cords that materialized out of nowhere. When the thrashing girl had gone still Miryana edged forward and stroked her hair. “You must listen to my voice and let me guide you back so you do not loose yourself child.”
  10. A shiver went up Andular’s spine when Thera’s teeth scraped against his ear and a soft moan escaped his lips. “It would be a pleasure to dance with you my little minx.” Standing he held out his hand and helped Thera to her feet and led her toward the dance floor. A few others were dancing but the space left plenty of room for the two of them. Putting his right arm around Thera’s waist he pulled her close to his body as the music played. She felt good this close to him and he could not help to give her bottom a firm squeeze causing her to flinch. “You should not stay away from the yards for so long Thera I have missed our talks together.” Thera chuckled and flashed him a mischevious smile letting him know she knew exactly what he had missed about her. Flowing across the dance floor he hoped their parting did not go as badly as their last meeting. He truly enjoyed his former trainees company on many levels. As the music ended Thera tilted her face up to his. Raising a hand Andular gently caressed the lines of her face and leaned down and kissed her hard on the mouth. Another song had started but he had no desire to dance any longer and led Thera back to their table and ordered another round of drinks. The drinks went down easily as the two scooted their chairs closer together and talked in hushed whispers. “What can I do to convince you to stay with me tonight Thera?” He asked putting a hand on her knee and caressing her leg.
  11. Smiling Nightsfire emphasized with the warring emotions Raithgar was trying to come to grips with. “A wolf name is what the wolves refer to you as. It is more an image of how they see you, wolves have names for themselves as well and in time you will come to know many of theirs.” Almost by design a big grey she wolf emerged from the trees and approached the two men. “This is Quickening she is the wolf who found me and helped me become whole again.” Reaching out he ruffled the wolves hair and was rewarded with a lick from her. “Most of us are contacted by one or more wolves that we share a bond with that goes beyond the other wolves we commune with. Quickening is my friend because she chooses to but I would never ask her to leave her pack and stay with me instead. She does what she chooses and thankfully she choose to be my friend and companion.” Quickening sniffed Raithgar then curled up next to Nightsfire and let him stroke her thick coat. “You speak of a pack and how you would not tearing a wolf away from one. Know this Raithgar you are part of a pack now as well. We are your pack would you rush to tear yourself away from us in order to risk your life on the bight border? The last battle is coming and we will go into it side by side with our brothers and sisters both two and four legged.” Standing Nightsfire stretched his legs and motioned for Raithgar to remain seated. “Think about what I have said, I know it is difficult for you right now but in time I hope my training will bring you peace.” Ask me more questions if you like but while you are doing so I want you to close your eyes. Reach out with your sense of smell and hearing and tell me what you find.” OOC: Just describe what your heightened senses can detect that a normal person would miss. The sounds of animals the smell of food or a fire whatever you want.
  12. Nightsfire covered his mouth to suppress a chuckle at the young man’s questions. Raithgar was a Shenirian through and through and his sense of duty and honor showed in his words. “Lets sit and we can talk.” Finding a shaded spot beneath a large fir tree the two men seated themselves and the Ranger took a moment to compose his thoughts. “You have been given a gift that few can ever understand. This gift will be seen as a curse by those who do not understand it but make no mistake a gift it is.” Raithgar listened with a thoughtful expression on his face as the older man spoke. “You have been given this gift for a reason and it allows you to commune with wolves. You draw many of their characteristics in you such as increased senses and the ability to walk in the wolf dream. In time and with training you will learn to use these new gifts as well as your ability to communicate with wolves. Do not take what you have been given lightly for you will be more than most people once these gifts have been understood and mastered.” Pulling his pack open Nightsfire took out a waterskin and handed it to Raithgar who paused then drank deeply. “As far as returning to the blight border, one day perhaps when you are properly trained. I know you feel your sense of duty obligates you to return. What you must realize is that the oath you took was altered when you were granted your new gift.” Raithgar handed the waterskin back and Nightsfire took a long pull on it. The young man reeked of emotions the confusion and turmoil easily detectible by the Rangers honed senses. “Returning to the blight now would be a fatal mistake Raithgar. You are still too young in your new abilities and it you could loose yourself if you rushed into a situation that you are not ready for. Your family is here now, in time if it means that much too you I will take you there myself. But make no mistake they are no longer your people we are.” Leaning back against the trunk of the tree he gave his student a few moments to ponder his words. “Tell me Raithgar have you been contacted by a wolf companion and have the wolves given you a name?”
  13. The cool morning wind greeted Nightsfire as he stepped from the Ranger training barracks and peered up at the cloudless blue sky. Today was a day for new beginnings and a lopsided smile crossed his face as he squinted against the bright sun. Anton had left the stedding and Nightsfire had been asked to take over the training of his student Raithgar. From what he had been told the young man was well on his way to being very well versed in the art of combat but that was not all there was to learn. After all he himself had believed that weapons were all that needed to be mastered to be an elite Ranger. Chuckling as he walked from the training compound he thought back to just how wrong he had been. Deciding to begin Raithgar’s training with the mastering of his newly enhanced senses and combining a bit of herb lore he made his way toward the lake where he had sent word for the young man to meet him. The houses and buildings of the stedding village left behind him Nightsfire made his way up a well worn path that led to the lake. Pushing through some foliage he emerged in a clearing overlooking the large lake and sat down next to a tree to wait. Quickening’s thoughts entered his own and he saw images through the big she wolves eyes of deer and felt the thrill of the hunt as she prowled with her brothers and sisters. A moment later a rustling in the trees announced the arrival of his charge and a young man emerged with dark hair worn in a Shienarian style top knot. Rising to his feet Nightsfire smiled and held out his hand. “I am John Dunbar it is a pleasure to meet you. As you may have been told I will be taking over your training from Anton.” The lad had the look of confidence in his eyes which was good and he stepped forward to take his new mentors hand in his own. “We will be working on senses and herb training today. But before we begin please ask any questions you may have of me.” OOC: John is about 5'11 medium build mousy brown hair and a medium build. His wolf name is Nightsfire and his wolf companion is Quickening.
  14. The early morning sunlight greeted Andular as he stepped into out of his office and into the Warder’s yard. Taking a moment to breath in the crisp air he smiled as he looked out at the groups of trainees and Warders busy practicing on the hard earth. The day like most would be filled with reports and more reports a task the Grand Master found tedious at best. Deciding to leave the paperwork for the time being he set out across the yards toward the stables. A morning ride into the countryside was just what he needed to take his mind of the upcoming monotony that would occupy his day. “A trip to the blight border is what I need.” He mumbled to himself as he passed armory and approached the barracks. A door swung open and a young woman emerged. Andular stopped in his tracks surprised to see the face that greeted him from the doorway. Cyrain his old trainee who had left the tower many months ago was the last person he had expected to see this morning. His surprise quickly turned to pleasure as she smiled at him in greeting. “Cyrain, I must say I did not imagine seeing you here this morning. It is good to have you back in the tower, come lets go to the mess hall and have a bite to eat. I am eager to here of your time away from the tower.”
  15. Miryana heard the pain in Cham’s words as he asked the questions that haunted him. Pacing a hand over his she gave it a gentle squeeze. “You have nothing to be sorry for child your questions are ones we all asked when we first found ourselves her. People do not accept us because they are frightened of things they cannot understand or rationalize. You must not let their ignorance jade your view on life.” Taking a sip of tea she considered his other questions for a moment before answering. “You are safe here Cham and the reason others do not find us is that the Rangers led by Owen make sure no unwanted visitors find us here. They are our guardians just as the Watchers are our link to what is happening outside of the Stedding. Do not let that trouble you, just know there are others who will keep us safe. As for seeing your brothers and sisters again, one day perhaps but you need to come to terms to who you are now. You will be assigned a mentor who will teach you all you need to know about your new gifts.” As she finished a knock came at the door and Miryana rose and opened it. Aleeza stood outside and a warms smile crossed the Sage’s face. “You come to learn the ways of the Sages young one come in. I was just finishing up with our new Wanderer Cham here. When we have finished our team we will find him a suitable place to sleep and a mentor to help him continue his journey. Then you and I will begin child.” She brought up another chair and had Aleeza join them and poured her a cup of tea.
