  1. Sorry if I'm wrong, but I always read Rand's weave of Folded light as the same thing Moraine did, or the same thing he used on Egwene. He uses it when trying to catch a glimpse of his attackers of the Sun Palace. Here's the passage.

Frantic shouts and clamor rose in every direction, some screaming to know what had happened, others crying that the Dragon Reborn had gone mad. The bundle of frustration in his head that was Alanna provided one small comfort. She was out of the Palace, as she had been all morning, maybe even outside the city walls. He wished Min was, too. Sometimes he saw men and women down one hallway or another, black-liveried servants mainly, running, falling down and scrambling up to run again. They did not see him. With the Power in him, he could hear every whisper. Including the whisper of soft boots running, light-footed.

Backing against the wall beside a long table topped with porcelain, he quickly wove Fire and Air around himself and held very still wrapped in Folded Light.

Maidens appeared, a stream of them, veiled, and ran by without seeing him. Toward his apartments. He could not let them accompany him; he had promised, but to let them fight, not to lead them to slaughter. When he found Demandred and Asmodean, all the Maidens could do was die, and he already had five names to learn and add to his list. Somara of the Bent Peak Daryne was already there. A promise he had had to make, a promise he had to keep. For that promise alone, he deserved to die!

Eagles and women can only be kept safe in cages, Lews Therin said as though quoting, then abruptly began weeping as the last of the Maidens vanished.

Rand moved on, sweeping back and forth through the palace in arcs that slowly moved away from his apartments. Folded Light used very little of the Power—so little no man could have felt the use of saidin unless right on top of it—and he used it whenever anyone seemed about to see him. His attackers had not struck at his rooms on the chance he would be there. They had eyes-and-ears in the Palace. Maybe it had been ta’veren work that pulled him out of the apartments, if a ta’veren could work on himself, and maybe just happenstance, but perhaps his tugging at the Pattern could bring his attackers within his grasp while they thought him dead or injured. Lews Therin chuckled at the thought. Rand could almost feel the man rubbing his hands in anticipation.

I mean, it sounds like he is invisible, because the maidens run right by him, but it could be something else.

Yes, this was what I was referring to.

  2. About the Dragon/champion of the Light/whatever turning to the Shadow and how is that considered a "small" change: Maybe it's not a change at all. Maybe it happens every time. Like, in the 2nd Age, he fights for the Light. In the 3rd also (I don't think Rand is about to turn now). Maybe in the 4th Age, when the time comes for him to be spun out again, he always turns to the Shadow? And in the 5th not, and in the 6th yes, something like that? I'm assigning arbitrary Ages here, but my point is, maybe this IS actually part of the Pattern. In some Ages he fights for the Light, in others for the Shadow, and when that Age comes back, he does it again.

Other explanation: His turning might happen in small increments - maybe in one Age, he is really close to turning to the Shadow but doesn't, but still does a lot of evil things that are almost as if he had turned. Next time that Age comes around, he goes the little distance left and actually turns, but he was already so evil last time it doesn't make much of a difference. And maybe in the same Age, but 1000 turnings ago, he was actually really good, but every time he got a little more evil until he reached the point where he could turn to the Shadow and it wouldn't affect the Pattern too much.

Clever! That would mean that Rand will learn about the possible future when in TAR... IF he does go there and back again.

  3.

As to your Q we know the nym are constructs and there were lots of them when there were Dai'Shan and singing (with the Voice Luckers and they could have been singing the Macarina for all I care ) so somewhere before the next AoL someone somewhere is going to have a wonder-moment or the Ogier will bring them back from their alternate dimension. Other than that your guess is as good as mine. If Rand wins I think the land will heal itself because the DO won't be able to impose the blight on it. One of Nynaeve's Accepted test journeys showed (foreshadowed) Malkier unscathed and there is a germ of truth in that because of Sharina - who will be Sharina Sedai in the future. So no need for the Nym now, even though I think one could be the blank in the Blight. Italics to show what I left out the first timee.

I don't assume they will be needed either, was just curious from a technical POV.

AoL AS could have been able to do the Nym job but in that case it was better for them to have Nym do it, since AS were not numerous and were probably quite busy.

  4. I think it's definetely the same soul all the time, complicated though it seems. Otherwise, why would Hawking and Ishy (assuming he doesn't lie about the issue) speak to Rand all these things about their countless encounters from eternity? They would have had to address him as an institution of champion indeed, not his soul, which seems lame to me. No, I would feel disappointed if this was the case. Which doesn't change the fact that still I'm confused about how can the Pattern remain within a frame while the champion turns to the Shadow  Perhaps it's not such a significant act after all- the Seanchan kill the dark Rand before the Shadow triumphs or he just falls off the roof and dies... but still, as a result the seals are not broken, the Bore is not unmade and the struggle is not finished- therfore a quest for the 4th-agers?

    But question 1, please...

Question 1: I was thinking about AoL singing involving Nym, Ogier and Aiel team. The BWB says they had some OP abilities which they used to affect plants. And, as I see it, the Aiels sang to enhance their actions. So, my question is: was what the Nym were doing an ability specific for them- a very part and nature of themselves- or could a human channeler imitate this?

Question 2: We know there is Pattern of every Age established which changes a little with each turning of the Wheel. Well, sometimes the DR joins the Shadow. The question: isn't the difference between a) the good DR > Light's victory and b) the bad DR > a draw... isn't it too significant to make those little changes in RJ's tapestry, like he called it, the very big ones? After all, what happens in the 3rd Age affects the 4th. Perhaphs the Mirror Worlds, with their infinity of variants, provide balance? On the other hand, they are mere reflections of the main events... Or are the differences not that big at all and they fit well in the Pattern and I am exaggerating things  ?

  6. ... when you almost called your boyfriend "Rand" 3 times... it was a close shave! And it would have certainly pissed him off. Well, perhaps it's just because his name is Arthur

... and when you actually did call your friend "Egwene" while speaking of her (not to her, at least). Not that I either love Eggy or hate my friend, though.

  7. ... you dream that you are Rand (while you are not even a man)

... you try tugging your braid, wondering how Nynaeve could do it so strongly, feeling disappointed it's rather not something you would do naturally

... you are frustrated that you can't read all those interesting threads and theories on DM because you haven't read TGS yet (because your country is soooo late with translation, grrr!) and there are spoilers

... your frustration grows because you're gonna forget all the details until aMoL comes out and you don't have time for another reread

... you recite sayings from WoT to people and read the prophecies loudly to yourself with pathos and dramaturgy, imagining your voice sounds thunderously or trying to find the best intonation

... you're trying to practise WoT women's crushing gazes (actually THIS stuff is fantasy!)

    ... you say "burn me!"

    This is life.
