  1. I like this theory, I've never considered those possibilities. I probably just accepted Alivia as a nice outcast plot in the story.

    @demonchild,

    You could be right - some think (and I like the idea myself) that Rand metaphorically died on DM so Alivia may have already helped him indeed.

  2. Yes, I remember that Rand seriously intended to slay the DO but he was the Dark Rand back then and I'm not sure we can trust his words. I expect him to be generally wiser now or to become wiser in the future, when he somehow finds missing data.

    When I think about Fain being the young DO, I try to imagine Rand becoming the Creator. And... nope. It seems inappropriate to me.

  3. I agree with Metal Head on the importance of love. Like I already said twice on the forums:

    I can't see how Elan could turn to the Light out of logic again, because he's actually right. Isn't it the integral nature of the Wheel that it turns endlessly and with each turning the DO wants to destroy it so that he can determine his own order? This specific cycle can only be stopped by the DO winning (unless one believes he can be utterly killed), while the Champion of the Light's task is to keep it going, thus each time defeating the DO, fighting for love, hope and joy (VoG), knowing that it will happen again. That's why he has to find his internal equilibrium, the joy of life and admiration for it - to know it's worth fighting for over and over again. Therefore, he needs memories of beautiful things which give him strenght.

    I think Rand won't show him any way to end the cycle without the Dark One winning because there's no such way. It's only: are you willing to sacrifice yourself for love etc or not? So, does Elan have anything to fight for with each turning of the Wheel, which could make him change sides? Maybe he has no good memories or just doesn't appreciate life. I agree with those saying that we have yet to see if he had any VoG-like experience. If he had - what did he see?

    What bothers me is this: does Rand currently really intend to kill the DO (which I personally don't think is possible)? Because if so, he could try to convince Moridin to join him. If not - I think there's no chance to change his mind.

    I'd actually like to see Moridin turn to the Light, but - like I said above - I think there's little chance for it. And I doubt he's a double agent (but it's a nicely fresh idea, Mashiara!), acting for the Shadow, yet being aware that in the end it's for the benefit of the Light - remember the flickering scene in the GH, chapter 37, when Rand & co used the portal stone and saw their alternate lives? Verin commented that incident, saying that it's the people's choices that make the difference (in the case of Rand, for instance, not only his own decisions matter - in some flickering lives Moiraine visited the TR, in others not, which makes a big difference). I know it's obvious and was already mentioned here, but I think that the free will is something that wouldn't let Moridin predict the result of his actions. Or could he have predicted that Rand would experience ultimate enlightement - which was kinda mystical, therefore rather unpredictable - instead of killing himself? Individual choices can shape the particular Age's Pattern, I'd say.

    Anyway, great post, as always, Mashiara :)

    (By the way, I was surprised when - reading the aforementioned chapter - I rediscovered that in one of Rand's alternate lives Egwene killed him with a knife and he thanked her for it. I remembered it from Egwene's test only and now I see that such a desperate solution was suggested twice in the books...)

  4. I like the idea of the Shaido being the remnant of a remnant.

    If you are right Mashiara, i.e. the DO's permission was needed despite the link between Rand and Moridin, we have quite an irony here - the DO could fulfill his plans concerning Rand without any of the Forsaken's conscious acting. Not very surprising, given how successfull they usually are :)

  5. At this point we can assume that Gawyn would use the rings accidentally since nobody knows what they are. Can you imagine the dramatic scene of his death? He's dying, nobody knows why, Egwene is desperate, crying, what's going on?!... However, if Egwene meets Fortuna she will probably be accompanied by her new warder and then the empress could see the rings. If only she would be merciful enough to reveal the secret...

    I wonder if we will see some more Galad/Galahad paralell. After all, Galahad was the one to heal the Fisher King and, due to his chastity, to find the Holy Grail (Grail = angreal). This paralell could possibly make Galad the key to winning TG.

  6. Faile rescue mission was a torment, yes. And I didn't like the woman before her captivity, yes (although I liked Perrin right form the beginning). But after that she changed and I actually started to like her... well, at least I'm willing to give her a chance, TG will be quite an exam. I also think that Perrin became awesome, finally - just like Rand, he emrbraced his destiny. Therefore I hope none of them dies in TG, even though, like New Ashaman, I I never regarded Perrin's broken crown as a 100% prediction of his future kingship. I tend to interpret it rather as his bond with a royal family of Saldea (I mean it could be either this or that and there's still a place for Perrin to die).

  7. @Metal Head - ;D (in general)

    I always assumed the Foretelling referred to Rand. It could also be Luc and Galad, but I can't see how they alone can be the key to victory. Still, I hope that there's SOMETHING for Luc, that his unusual family connections will play a role somehow (please, at least let him reveal his identity to the others, not just get smashed by Perrin's hammer as a random evil guy! The secret of Rand's true parentage is enough and that I can deal with). The same with Galad - I want him to spend a nice family moment with Rand and maybe help him do something cool.

  8. I've always wanted the "3 shall be as 1" line to refer to Rand, Mat and Perrin as the 3 ta'veren. I'll be greatly disappointed if it's in fact the 3 powers or Callandor circle... They've been separate almost all the time, now it's time to finally do something awesome together. I like your idea, Mashiara, but could you assure me guys, cause I don't remember - they no longer need to think of the others in order to see them, right? Because if they needed to, there could occur a problem: how to stay focus on another 2 in the middle of the action? :)
