  1. I don't predict a full trailer, but I do think they will drop some sort of 90 (to 120) second teaser trailer, perhaps even as short as just a minute long. We do know that there are going to be "asset drops," but we don't know if that will include for WoT or not (if not, exactly what is the point of Rafe appearing on the panel, just to announce the release date of the series?). The only other thing I can imagine them releasing at SDCC is some sort of sizzle reel, but I don't exactly see that counting as an "asset," though the studio can call whatever they want an asset I guess.

    We'll see soon enough though.

The full trailer, as I've predicted on The Dusty Wheel (call in) and Twitter, I predict will drop sometime around September 16th, the anniversary of Jordan's passing and the two year anniversary of the start of filming. That's a Thursday, so I give it a window of the 15th-17th, allowing for "WoT Wednesday" through Friday, a more common day for trailer releases.

The premiere (and likely the next two episodes after that) will probably be released five to six weeks after that.

Sanderson is a gentleman and a respected writer, and he is correct - art is subjective and all opinions are legitimate.

I will not watch Rafe Jadkin's show for one simple reason: I do not believe Jadkin cares about preserving Robert Jordan's vision.

By contrast, David Benioff and Dan Weiss were supper fans of "The Game of Thrones" and made every human effort to preserve George R.R. Martin's vision. Period. Some may argue the conclusion, but no one can argue Benioff and Weiss did not make every effort to keep Martin's visions whole.

Until you have watched this video, you don't even have the slightest clue as to what Robert Jordan's vision was in so far as the appearance of the Emond's Fielders (Rand aside). Furthermore, Rafe Judkins has the explicit support of Robert Jordan's widow/editor, the person who knows more about what that vision was than anyone alive. The only person who knew more about what Jordan's vision was, was James Rigney himself. And guess what, Rafe has actually met with and talked to Harriet, something I suspect you have not done.

And here's that video I mentioned. In this video they go over not just the textual evidence from the books showing how the casting actually does line up with the books, but also goes over a number of excerpts from Jordan's notes that back that up as well. I challenge you to watch that and then come back and say again how these casting choices don't match up with Jordan's vision, how Rafe isn't matching up with Jordan's vision. Or is it just your own personal biases that Rafe isn't matching up with?

Well I stand corrected! I hadn't seen them, or at least noticed them when they were on screen at least. Looks like they were background extras, because I don't recall them. My mistake. Now let's see some Central Asian and Latino actors playing Vulcans and I'll be happy. And while we're at it, couldn't hurt to do some diversity of casting with Klingons, Romulans, Ferengi and Cardassians while they're at it.

I like the choice for Thom, as far as looks... though going to have to lighten up the locks! I didn't think for a minute that they could exclude the character, and think that the doubts he would be included were because it would be such a difficult character to portray.

He will have to pontificate and prance like a Ringmaster, as well as be sincere and lovable companion to the EF5.

Not an easy thing to pull off!! Good luck Alexandre!! Don't let us down.

Thom is one of the most dynamic and amazing characters in Fantasy literature. Heck, most of our major characters (ie Emond's Field 5, Thom, Elayne, Moiraine, Lan, Loial, Min and Aviendha -- at least that's how I count them) are among the greatest characters in Fantasy. Even the secondary characters like Juilan, Bayle, Davram, Siuan, Leane, Faile, Gaul, Verin, Logain, Rhuarc, Galad and the Aiel Dreamwalkers are pretty amazing and are gonna be tough to portray as well. And that's leaving out the Forsaken, some of whom are pretty dynamic themselves.

I am loving the Diversity of the Cast.  Head-Canon be Damned!  If these actors (Male & Female) nail their roles as well as they are in the books, this should be a Great Series!

I'm wondering now if there will be diversity among the Ogier as well. No reason there shouldn't be in my opinion, so I hope there is. I mean, we sort of get diversity among Vulcans in *Star* *Trek* (I say "sort of" because we haven't seen any Latino or Asian, whether Western, Central or East, actors play a Vulcans yet, just white and black actors), so we've got one example of a non-human group in fiction being portrayed by more than one ethnicity/race, so the viewing audience should accept it, especially in this day and age.

The more actors they announce, the more excited I get about this show.

BTW, are you the same "Lancer" that calls in to The Dusty Wheel? Just curious.

  6. My only concern is that Alexandre Willaume looks more like a man who would wield a greatsword than a harp, and wear armor than a gleeman's cloak. That said, I'm assuming the casting agency and Rafe & Co. know what the heck they are doing and that this guy will knock it out of the park . Looking forward to hearing him sing and seeing him do his "stunts" (he recently had a tweet referring to doing stunts for WoT) which I am now guessing were not any sort of combat (unless it was for filming a certain scene in Whitebridge) but rather some acrobatics and tumbling. This guy does look damned fit, that's for sure.

Everyone else looks great! I especially like Myers for Fain, that works great for me (though I still wish it was Robert Carlyle, but we can't always get what we want, eh?). And I want to hear Animashaun's voice, as I wonder if they will have to modulate it or something to get it right (off to YouTube I go!)
