  1. I'm not sure about this, might have to go back and check, but hadn't Tuon already spent at least a few years training damane prior to meeting Mat? Also, I don't think it matters if she has tried to channel in terms of whether the a'dam would work on her. Renna and Seta hadn't tried at the time when they were both collared and left to be discovered in that basement. Why it matters is Fortuona is a learner and hasn't spent enough time working with the A'Dam, hence the only way she could be collared is if she consciously decides to learn how to channel. Training damane was a hobby for Tuon, Renna and Seta as Suldam did it for a career working almost constantly. RJ has stated that as of KoD she hasn't worked enough with the power. I know that people have said this, but no one seems to be able to quote chapter and verse.
  2. Actually we have a RJ quote to the effect that Tuon hadn;t done enough sul'damming to be held by the a'dam. That was circa KoD. I don't think she's done much since, not for the months she was with Mat or afterwords when she's taking the throne. So, she may still pass the a'dam, even if somebody has the imagination to chuck one at her. Is this the passage you are thinking of? DragonCon 3 September 2005 - Emma reporting Emma: Can the a'dam hold every sul'dam? RJ: The a'dam can only hold sul'dam who have been sul'dam for a long time and so wearing the bracelet for a long time. Four months for example isn't enough. He said the circle helped them get to the point that's described in the book, as being on the brink of being able to channel, one foot stepped over or something [Winter's Heart Ch. 8]. As you see, it doesn't say anything about Tuon specifically. No. Luckers quoted another passage, post KoD (maybe book tour/ RJ's blog) where he specifically confirmed that Tuon would not be held by the a'dam. Sorry don't have time to look for it - I'm sure Luckers/ Terez or one of the quotes experts can find it. See this thread on collaring Fortuona. http://www.tarvalon.net/phpbbforum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2410

  5. I suppose that Galgan will learn from the damane captured in the raid on the White Tower that sul'dam can channel: then he will seize the throne and leash Fortuona. Beslan will then revolt and free her.
  6. Wow, with a bit of luck it'll be chapter 1 now I've gone to the trouble and have the prologue Try http://uprius.com
  7. For those outside the USA, you may try http://uprius.com I have managed to obtain the prologue from this source although I live in the United Kingdom.
  8. That's exactly what she wants everyone to think- such is her diabolical cunning.
  9. Here is what I think will happen:- Galgan will learn from the captured sul'dam that sul'dam can be taught to channel, and so will convince himself that the interests of the Empire require For(tuon)a to be deposed. Hence she will be leashed with an a'dam and imprisoned in the Towers of Midnight, and Galgan will seize the Crystal Throne. This action will provoke a revolt of the sul'dam, who will consider their position threatened. Mat and Rand will rescue For(tuon)a and restore her to the Throne- Mat using cannon against the Seanchan forces loyal to Galgan- but Rand will demand, as the price of his aid, that she swear to obey him (possibly on a spare Oath Road). Hence most of the damane will be unleashed. In the course of these events, For(tuon)a will rescue Egwene from Mesaana- who has been impersonating Silviana, and will now imprison and impersonate Egwene- thus fulfilling Egwene's dream (the sword tied to the back of the Seanchan woman in the dream representing For(tuon)a's potential ability to channel).
  10. More news about this book; it has gone to print and should be out in August.
  11. Has anyone read the Green Bronze Mirror by Lynne Ellison? It concerns a teenage girl who finds an ancient mirror buried in the sand and is transported back in time to the Roman empire. She is mistaken for a runaway slave and sold into a wealthy family in Nero's Rome, meets Christians hiding in the Catacombs and falls in love with a slave boy. This book was first published in 1966 and has since been out of print and virtually unobtainable. It is being reprinted in a new revised addition with new illustrations by Philip Smiley, and will hopefully be out in the autumn. 12. Actually, the name Gareth appears in Malory's Morte d'Arthur as that of a knight of the Round Table, formerly a kitchen boy, and younger brother of Sir Gawain.
  13. I think that the sword represents the One Power. The fact that it is strapped to her back indicates that her ability to channel is as yet only potential.
