  1. "......PLEASE explain how he let himself get beaten by Lan? He can CHANNEL for crying out loud!! Lan cant!" Lan was wearing the copy of the Fox Head medallion.
  2. Too funny LOL!! But I know what you mean. One of the things that really stuck out to me were the Americanisms that crept into the dialogue, eg. to describe Autumn as 'The Fall'.
  3. And I think that we are all grateful for Brandon finishing the series, it was brave of him to take on such a task. Sure, there are things we hoped would be elaborated on and things we hoped would be resolved in this book, so it's a bit disappointing that they werent resolved - I mean, we've been reading this series for years/decades and waiting excitedly for the next instalment of the story, especially this one. I'm not really sure how I feel about the book its self yet, I felt exhausted reading it and it wasnt what I hoped, however Im not sure what that would have looked like either :) He shouldn't have done it. Burn the notes, I'd rather have no ending than an ending I didn't like. I matter more than anyone so what the hell, why didn't I get everything I wanted? 1/5 like I said is generous. :) lol

  5. Sorry for some reason Im not able to post below this quote....see below quote: I agree with you, I loved Androl and Pevara and thought they did a lot of interesting and creative this. I liked the interactions between them both as well.
  6. Yes why like the one AS who actually swore to do what was best for Rand, not herself or the WT. She saved his life, rescued him in FM and backed him to the hilt all while teaching the lesson to all the male channelers. She constantly was looking to help people and make them better. She developed a method of stilling for male channelers that integrated them back into normal life and allowed them to live an almost normal life span. She propped up thrones, took down bands of DFs and patrolled the blight. None of that matters though because was she was a big meanie to the DR. How dare she call him out when he was acting like a fool! I don't like her because she was a complete Mary Sue character created late in the series to be the perfect Aes Sedai who is smarter, better, more knowledgeable, etc. Then she gets to be Amyrlin. Why not just name her Roberta Jordana. And Cadsuanne was one of the oldest living AS...wisdom has to count for something surely.
  7. So you're guessing that's what happened....we didnt miss the event then - your guess is as good as mine? That was my guess too, and I went back, reread the part where Anrdol, is turned into Androl (lol) to see if he snitched the Seals and nothing mentioned about them. I dont remember reading that Androl passed the Seals to anyone either. This is a bit slack I think. It really isnt good enough for us to surmise that the Seals were stolen back by Androl. The plot should never have been inserted if this wasnt going to be explained. I started to think they might have accidently left a chapter out. Uh hmm what? AMoL pg 739 Okay, thanks. Like I said, I wasnt sure if I missed the event. But as it was it wasnt much of an event!! The fact that he - Androl had the Seals wasnt even mentioned. But I guess it does say (p737) that he saw Taim put the disc into the pouch on his belt. Bit of a non event though for such an important action. It seems that quite a few people missed Androl stealing them, a sentence stating somehting like 'He pulled out a white and black disc...' would have helped.. anyhow.. ** Just thought I would mention that I wasnt ignoring the above posts, but was writing a post and inadvertently posted at the same time that the others posters who had replied to my question and was unaware that they had posted replies to my answers - hope that makes sense! Sorry for the confusion.

  9. When did that happen? Could you let me know the page number please? I looked back to that and couldnt see it....not saying it isnt there but I couldnt find it in my first read. It didnt mention Androl stealing the Seals back.
  10. This is the scene Rand opens himself to Mierin in a dreamshard. Brandon said there would be consequences for Rand's TP usage. This is it. It's how the DO knew where the Seals were. He probably sent Taim to retrieve them. Nothing exciting. No the question is how did Logain get them back. If Taim had them on the battle field, who does Logain have them before the Egwene and Taim fight Yes, my question too....
  11. In my view the Tinkers and the Aiel are the same people. They are the people the Aiel used to be, but the Tinkers held to the the Jenn Aiel way of life. I guess we have to draw our own conclusions that eventually the song would have gained momentum with the Aiel as the Keepers of the Dragon's Peace, along with the Oglier and others. It was a shame that that story line wasnt elaborated more though, just that one mention (in a joke by Mat - I think) of Rand singing and the plants growing around him. The message is that the Dragon and his song brings life and peace to the world, and that is integral to the Dragon having peace and life within himself - that is what defeated the DO. My guess is that as the earth was restored to health the singing gifts would have also been restored. It really wouldnt have been difficult to throw that in there somewhere....Rand walking along, the land blossoms around him, the Tinkers hear him and know instinctively that he is singing the 'song of life' which would resonate with them because of their beliefs? Anyhow.....disappointing :(
  12. Bwahaha AWESOME! I can't be the only one who got sick of everybody loving that damn thing. LOL :)
  13. He actually has annotations for all his books, so you can learn a lot about his writing process. He plans everything out (he has hundreds of pages of notes on The Stormlight Archive), but he also likes throwing in a few new things as he writes and is willing to break from his careful plans when he finds something that feels more "right". Brandon's style of writing is amazing, but the differences that Wheel of Time has from Mistborn and The Way of Kings make it harder to write. Also, Brandon is working off of Jordan's plans, not his own. Have to say that I love BS's other books too. I started reading them due to him taking over the WoT writing and am hooked. Warbreaker, Mistborn, Elantris and The Way of Kings are all really great books, I cant wait for the second instalment to The Way of Kings. It must be incredibly difficult to take over a series written and developed by another author.
  14. I almost feel that the authors felt that in order to remain relevant the books had to continue to add to the rules of the universe during each book. The gateways did immediately remind me of BS Mistborn trilogy and their impressive three dimensional battle scenes. Androl in general I could have done without for the same reasons the gateways were annoying to you. One couldn't help but feel annoyed at the time wasted on a character who wasn't going to do anything that couldn't have been done by other already developed characters. Also, the Magma gateway's (demandred's and Androl's) raise serious questions as to why the likes had not been seen before. On first read 15 years ago I thought envisioned most of the uses gateways eventually were put to use but then dismissed them because their rigid nature would only be possible if there was some unspoken rule or if every person EVER in the Age of Legend was specially inept. And Deathgates, which were clearly invented by RJ, didn't "break" the previously established usage of gateways? I thought this new use of gateways, from battlefield observation to unleashing a torrent of lava, felt like a natural development. Why wouldn't the lava thing work? Is there a single reason why it shouldn't? I've always imagined that being one of the reasons why the weave for Travelling was lost during the Breaking - because it was useless. You didn't know if the gateway would open to a place that was still safe, or if it'd open into a vulcano or an ocean, and thus killing you. Why weren't these things widely used in the AoL? Most people couldn't create gateways large enough for unleashing large torrents of magma There are perhaps better ways of killing people, unless you happen to be very Talented with gateways. And it was basically the only thing Androl could use as a weapon. Other people could rupture the earth, call down lightning, use balefire, and so on. I imagine that battlefield observation wasn't used that way because during the AoL there were other means available to observe things from afar. Ter'angreal, for instance. I don't see it as flawed in any way. I found the little inconsistencies annoying, though. Like, how could Egwene draw too much of the One Power while channeling through an ordinary sa'angreal? That's not supposed to be possible. I agree, I liked Androl and Pevara's roles, thought they were great and came up with really creative ideas that added to the story. I agree that the new uses for the gateways could be thought of as a reflection of ongoing evolution of knowledge and Androl's talent. I cant understand why people didnt develop more creative ways of using the power like Androl did (it's the Last Battle for goodness sake!), why werent the 'death wheels' employed to fight the trollocs, why didnt they didnt use circles more, and why didnt Elayne make more medallions to protect people during the attack? It was frustrating.
  15. You have got to be joking. That scene was utterly out of character and just terribly done. Having read back over your other posts about this I have to agree with you that it was out of character, but I still laughed :) I did think that BS pushed Mat's laid back persona a bit too far.
