  1. True true...My apologies for getting a bit high-strung...Now as to your belief that I'm being evasive? How so? I went so far as to make a list of Gawyn's and Galad's victories...Kinda put it right out there almost from the start...That wasn't good enough, so what exactly would suffice? My example doesn't fall any flatter than your theory..."Galad is the best because a bunch of people said so.." 1. Again with the "Everyone says so..." I contest with, "Maybe because they haven't seen his brother fight? 2. Yep, in practice...I wonder if those he beat in practice would still say he's t
  2. Again I ask, give us proof of where Gawyn is shown to the better fighter. Galad beat Valda and single handedly destroyed the mob in Somara coming out unscathed. On top of that we have all of the characters who says he is better, we are told he learns faster and is more skilled and we have him faring better in two objective results. Now for Gawyn we have no idea how he defeated Hammar and Coulin and he came close to being killed against the Bloodknives a fight in which Brandon said he was "luckier than he thinks". You keep saying the authors show Gawyn to be better. Well prove it. Ace.
  3. There is a MAJOR difference between the situation you are referring to, and the hypothetical scenario you present; in one, you have a small piece of trivia, while the other includes the biggest, most important thing in the series. See, who's better between the two is nothing more than a theoretical interest of the fanbase atm, and not really that big a deal. So why would Robert Jordan care which one of the two has actually had the most impressive fights? What you say about the Dragon isn't even comparable. Also, you and Kael Pyralis propose that the books suggest that Gawyn is in fact
  4. You gotta love a place where this topic is a good debate...Regardless of what you believe, thanks for participating...Because I can't think of anyone else that I personally know who would understand the reason for the debate. I gotta be honest though, I nearly gave up when I read someone post that practice matches were a better indicator of prowess than life or death fights...Then we had someone bring up tennis matches...Wow, a sword fight compared to tennis matches, not even fencing, but tennis. I still contend that Lan is the best, but, and I base this on what is written, I gotta
  5. Agreed. In reference to Galad vs Gawyn...Take a look at the body count: Galad: Eamon Valda (kills) Beats some of the mob in Samara Gawyn: Hammar (kills) Coulin (kills) Sleete (defeats in practice combat) 3 Bloodknives (kills) Perhaps Galad is the better swordsman, but we've seen more from Gawyn. It's all a matter of face time. And Gawyn did all of this before he became Egwene's warder. If you are going to add Sleete in practice you must also add Hammar for Galad. Would also like to point out again we have no way to compare which feats are more impressive. How did H
  6. Agreed. 7. Not sure why you would say that. Mat, Gawyn and Nynaeve all say Galad is the better fighter. The only time we have an objective result Galad is the better fighter. They both have had impressive fights. We really have no way to compare the relative merits of of their individual achievements however. Bottom line the only time we have comparisons in the text Galad is better and the only time we have comparisons out of text Galad is better. Case closed. Good quotes. Thanks for sharing. I wouldn't say that they result in a "case closed" situation...Actions still spea
  8. I'm a bit surprise Galad is considered better than Gawyn...Yeah, Galad killed Valda, but if memory serves he got carved up quite a bit doing it, where as Gawyn has beaten every opponent he's faced with ease and hardly a scratch...except for the three assassins. If Galad is actually considered the better of the two, by both authors, then they've both done a poor job of communicating this in their writing.
  9. Good to see I'm not the only one who has a problem with her...
  10. My earlier post was in reference to what I thought would have been a nice twist to the plot, but in all honesty, I don't think she'll survive the series. To put things right she'll need to die and be reborn to an age closer to Gaidal. Plus, she's a woman out of her time and uncomfortable with the duties and honors bestowed upon her. Not everyone is going to survive this series (I'm thinking) and I am betting she is one of the casualties.
  11. I've always thought it would be cool if a situation came up that she had to call on Gaidal...She was torn out of time, why couldn't he if he felt her need? Maybe she wouldn't call him for herself, but the need of another...Possibly to protect Elayne? Or, if memory serves, turn the tide of a battle, since he's supposed to be bad mother? My memory stinks, but I think I read he may have already been reborn, which, if that is the case, then there is no way the above will happen.
  12. I like Galad. I give him props for going after a guy who he though messed with his step-mom...A sword master at that. I like Gawyn as well. I think most people don't like him, because he hates on Rand, but if I thought someone killed my ma, I wouldn't exactly be joining their fan club either. I'm really interested in seeing what happens with both characters.
  13. How much of the series have you read? Don't want to spoil anything for you. I've read all the books (maybe I missed something?)...I know he's good, but is he the best? Could he take Lan? I'm thinking there's a reason he has his skills...In other words, it's gonna play a larger part in the plot...He's either gonna get it together and save the day at some point, or go rogue and forced to be taken out. Mat beat him once...To my knowledge he's the only one who has...Was that sparring a glimpse of something to come? Only this time instead of a quarterstaff and practice swords it's Ma
  14. I would have waited an eternity for this. It's over Prime. Mat vs Gawyn and Galad BTW, has there been a discussion regarding Gawyn's skill with a blade? RJ usually that a reason for giving a character certain skills. So who is Gawyn going to take out? Or, who will be forced to take him out if he don't get his mind right?
  15. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way... Reminds me of a joke, with the punchline going, The Bishop looked around and said,"You **edited** are my kinda people!"
