  1. The Three Oaths maybe? While defending the Tower from active attack is obviously fine, a premeditated strike against a fleeing foe would be far more questionable. Their escape could easily lead to the loss of Aes Sedai lives in the future, but it's the sort of thing that would probably descend into paralysing discussion, arguments, plots, counter plots and baths. Also, in the immediate aftermath of the raid, the Tower was not yet unified - one faction had been virtually decimated and had lost all sense of leadership and the other had more or less no idea what was going on. They had a new Amyrlin and Hall to choose, no idea of how fast raken could travel and no guarantee of the route the raken would take...

  2.

I'm not 100% convinced saidin/saidar weaves are different, everybody assumes so because it cannot be confirmed. However, there are striking similarities between damane and asha'man combat weaves. Both sexes also use weaves of Air to immobilize, lightning to strike, balefire, etc. They also talk about the same 5 elements.

At the Cleansing, saidar doesn't react how Rand expects it to - he says the weave looks different to how he would have thought it would look. Also, the way men and women travel are somewhat different - women make two places in the pattern the same, men bore a hole through the pattern to travel through. Plus with all that jazz about birds not being able to teach fish to fly, I'd say that the weaves are pretty different, even if the effects are the same. It seems likely to me me that the simpler the weave, the more similar the male and female versions, but that's just speculation.

  3. Unfortunately Perrin attacked them first. Even if their behavior was hostile, they hadn't attacked him yet.

As to the second part you can't use the excuse of "they very probably would have unlawfully killed me so I unlawfully killed them first."

This. Also, you would be right to be wary of a big man with a battleaxe hiding in the shadows. "I'm a main character in a novel, trust me!" is not a very reasonable defense (even if it is often effective).

  4. In the shadow rising may's ashandarei is described as "black hafted" and with an "iron hard black haft." In tgs it smoulders after an encounter with normal fire. I believe the haft is described as wood but I'm not positive. Does anyone know if there is a description pre-sanderson of mat's weapon as anything other than aes sedai made or about the material of the haft?

From the first description of it:

Pulling the strange spear to him, he ran his fingers along the black shaft. A line of some strange cursive script ran it's length, bracketed by a pair of birds inlaid in metal even darker than the wood.

Voila. Evidently only the blade is protected against damage, although the wood does seem to be strengthened somehow as I'm sure it's deflected a myrddraal's sword before.

  5. lol. You guys must have missed this bit:

"Rand al'Thor," Nynaeve shrieked, "that is the most outrageous thing I ever heard out of your mouth! The very idea of telling three women you love them! You're worse than a lecher! You apologize right now!" Lan had snatched his pipe from his mouth and was staring at Rand.

Thanks for the reply. This is from WH:12, A lily in Winter? Isn't this the conversation they have before the bonding ceremony talking about love and marriage, Elayne says lets go to our rooms so as not to be bothered by Nynaeve and Lan as she feared Nynaeve would stop them? edit: from bonding with Rand.

    Cheers

True, but Nynaeve likely knows about the bond to Min, and she knows about Elayne's pregnancy too so she could probably put two and two together (or one and three :P).

  6. a couple of quick Wise Ones questions.

    1. how many are there? and how many of them can channel? Sevanna had at least 300 Wise Ones that could channel with her in Malden. and that's just Shaido. Rand has 11 clans. So he has over 3000 Wise Ones channelers? that's an army bigger than Asha'man and Aes Sedai put together. yet he hardly seems to use them.

    2. Sorilea is supposed to be over 300 years old yet she can barely channel. how is it that she slowed so much? we are told that the slowing effect depends on strength in the OP.

Alivia is supposed to be far older than that (I can't remember off the top of my head) and she looks barely middle aged, so Sorilea being a wrinkled out walnut at 300 seems reasonable enough to me!

  7. I think that he was sent to shienar or somethign to warn of a big attack from the blight to prevent reinforcements, that would make him look a fool

I don't get this. How would warning of an attack prevent reinforcements? Usually when you warn of an attack you gain reinforcements to push away said attack?

Not if he said Shienar was going to eb attacked, then they would keep their troops at home.
