After a two month hiatus to focus on Christmas and music of the last year, the music theme for February returns to pick our "Dream Band".After picking Carlos Santana as the guitarist and Geddy Lee as the bass player, our focus now turns to the world of female vocalists. And there are a host of activities surrounding this theme, which you can find highlighted below.

 

 

NOMINATE YOUR BEST FEMALE VOCALIST

For the beginning of February, I am looking to you to nominate who you think are the best female vocalists. Between 8 and 16 is what I am looking for, and those nominated will go into the "It's A Knockout" contest to decide who takes the role of Female Vocalist in the Band's Dream Band.

Once we have our nominations, there will be a "It's A Knockout" thread to pick the winner and who takes the position of Female Vocalist in the Band's Dream Band.

As a result, for the following weeks, songs that have some of the best female vocalists will be picked for "Tune or No Tune":

 

- Monday 1st February 2010 --> Poker Face by Lady Gaga

- Monday 8th February 2010 --> The White Rose of Athens by Nana Mouskouri

- Monday 15th February 2010 --> I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston

- Monday 22nd February 2010 --> Fidelity by Regina Spektor

Nominations for Female Vocalists has now closed. The "It's A Knockout" thread has been posted, and sees Within Temptation's Sharon den Adel take on Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow in the first tie of the 1st Round. I know where my vote is going - but do you? Come by and join in the fun as the Band continues its search for its Dream Band!

The latest "Tune or No Tune" has been posted. Whitney Houston is put up to the test, and the chosen song is her 1987 internationally successful single I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

 

So far, Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation and Lisa Kelly of Celtic Woman have advanced to the Second Round of the "It's A Knockout" contest to find who will take the spot of Female Vocalist in the Band's Dream Band. Next up is Simone Simons of Epica and Sarah McLachlan.

 

Also, Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal is up in "Original vs. Cover", and faces tough opposition in the form of Israeli easy listening group J.Viewz.

We are now onto the 5th tie of the 1st Round in the "It's A Knockout" contest for the position of Female Vocalist in the Band's Dream Band. This tie sees Annie Lennox take on Amy Lee of Evanescence.

 

Early results saw Simone Simons of Epica defeat Sarah McLachlan, and Dawn Richardson of Firelight beat Greta Salpeter of The Hush Sound to join Sharon den Adel and Lisa Kelly in Round 2.

The fourth and final "Tune or No Tune" of February has been posted. Regina Spektor steps up to the plate this weel, and the chosen song is her most successful single to date, Fidelity.

 

We are now at the final tie of the 1st Round in the "It's A Knockout" contest to determine the female vocalist of the Band's Dream Band. The toe sees Demi Lovato take on Lacey Mosley of Flyleaf. Those artists in the second round so far are Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation, Lisa Kelly of Celtic Woman, Simone Simons of Epica, Dawn Richardson of Fireflight, Annie Lennox, PJ Harvey and Francesca Battistelli.

 

Also, Ozzie Nelson takes on Blind Guardian in Original vs. Cover as Dream A Little Dream of Me goes to the vote.

Below are the ties for the 2nd Round of the "It's A Knockout" contest:

 

1. Simone Simons (of Epica) vs. Dawn Richardson (of Fireflight)

2. PJ Harvey vs. Lisa Kelly (of Celtic Woman)

3. Sharon den Adel (of Within Temptation) vs. Lacey Mosley (of Flyleaf)

4. Francesca Battistelli vs. Annie Lennox

 

The first two ties are up and running as we plan to get this all tied up before the end of February.

We have now hit the semi-finals stage, which feature Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation taking on Francesca Battistelli, and Epica's Simone Simons challenging Lisa Kelly of Celtic Woman for a place in the final, and taking the crown of Female Vocalist for the Band's Dream Band.

The last two ties of the "It's A Knockout" contest have gone up, and they are the Grand Final, and the 3rd/4th Play-off.

 

In the Grand Final, Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation does battle with Lisa Kelly of Celtic Woman to join Carlos Santana and Geddy Lee in the Band's Dream Band. Will Metal or Folk triumph?

 

And in the 3rd/4th Play-off, Simone Simons of Epica challenges Francesca Battistelli to see if Metal can win over Christian music.

Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation takes the crown and the position of the Female Vocalist in the Band's Dream Band after a 4-2 victory over Lisa Kelly.

 

Simone Simons came 3rd, beating Francesca Battistelli by 4 votes to 3, after the Marshal-General, Corki, cast the deciding vote as it was a 3-3 tie at the end of voting.

 

A big thanks to everyone who got involved at some stage in the contest.

 

So that is Stage 3 of the Band's Dream Band done - we will decide what Stage 4 is shortly!
