The music theme for January 2010 in the Band of the Red Hand is "2009 and the Noughties". This is part of our review of the musical year that was 2009 and the decade that was the Noughties. There will also be a look at the artists to look out for in 2010. There are a host of activities surrounding this theme, which you can find highlighted below.

IT'S A KNOCKOUT - BIGGEST SELLING SINGLES OF 2009

Following on from the 2008 contest, where Nickleback won with Rockstar, the top 16 selling singles from the UK chart go head-to-head to determine which was the best song from 2009, according to DM.

NOMINATE YOUR BEST SONG FROM THE NOUGHTIES

For the beginning of January, I am looking to you to nominate which are songs were your favourites or bests from the last decase. You can nominate anything - rock, pop, classical, any controversial. I am looking for between 8 and 16 songs (the more, the merrier), and those nominated will go into the "It's A Knockout" contest to decide what is DM's greatest song from the Noughties.

The second tie of the 1st Round in the "It's A Knockout" Contest for the best selling singles of 2009 is currently sitting at a tie...and I am waiting for someone who hasn't voted to come by and break the deadlock.
