Personality

Determined to prove herself without Title, loyal and protective of friends.  In the beginning, Saline was very fragile. Her sense of humour extended only so far as noble courtesy. She couldn’t take criticism, but was introverted, serious and boring. Falling in love with Rory changed that. Now, Saline, having gotten into better shape and discovering the joys of laughter, is far more outgoing, adventurous and jovial. She still likes to run away and hide from personal conflict, but won’t hesitate to argue the case of anyone she feels is victimised.

History:

Saline was born into a rather coddled existence. Her father was a wealthy Lord and she was his favourite child. It’s no surprise she began packing on the pounds from an early age, becoming a healthy, plump girl. Unfortunately her imagination reached far farther than her contained lifestyle and at the age of fourteen, Saline ran away to a life of adventure . . . providing she was still treated as a lady of dignity and poise during her travels.

She was caught up with a group of adventurers hunting for the horn, but found nothing during her three-year stay with them. Then she became enamored of a tinker and courted the tuatha’an male who was handsome but four years her senior. He introduced her to the joy of singing as well as a love for horticulture, something she would explore further as she developed her skills in the WT.  But before she was about to commit herself to the Way of the Leaf he died, and their engagement was called off, leaving her only his handkerchief for remembrance. Though the caravan grieved and considered her their own, Saline found the familiar scenery too

painful to bear. She had too much inordinate pride than to return to the Wastrel household.  Giving up her noble last name had seemed intelligent at the time, but now she was without her name and her husband. She could not return home and she realised the tinkers were a pretty sad lot now she thought about it. Instead she hopped aboard a ship to Tar Valon and enrolled as a Novice at the WT, where others are 16 or 17 she was already 22 years of age.

Novicehood and Acceptedhood:

She had expected derision for the age-gap between her roommates and her but had no idea what was about to occur the moment she set foot into the Tower. She created strong friendships with her roommates Aeveryn and Zaynab.  The three got into much trouble during their novice years through pranks, and even served a stint at the Farm for a thwarted runaway attempt by Saline.  After the Farm, Aeveryn was raised and Zaynab reassigned to another room, so the trio was broken.

Saline soon had new roommates Syara and Rosetta.  They befriended Accepted Lillian, and their adventures continued.  During this time, Lillian's best friend Taei Mirel died in her Accepted testing.  Saline discovered during this time that she wished to be a Sister of the Red one day, but was also so scared by Taei's death that she refused her Arches twice and then ran away before she could be tested a third time.  Saline and Syara were caught by a Red Aes Sedai after they had traveled down river several miles.

The Reds had particular influence in Saline's life during this time, including Perine Caral as her mentor, Saya Sedai, and Faile Sedai.  Faile included Saline in a chore to help nurse David, a man who had been gentled and was dying in the aftermath.  He died while Saline watched, leading her to avoid the Reds until a later confrontation with Faile led her to confront what had happened and earn a new resolve to become a guardian within the Reds, dedicated to finding a better way to handle men after gentling, and of the world's humanity in general.

After Saline was raised to Accepted, her education was passed into the hands of a fiery and demanding Red, Jagen Sedai. Jagen, Red Sister Maegan Sedai, and sisters of other Ajahs including Vera Sedai.  She also became interested in weapons training, increasing her proficiency  under the instruction of Gaidar Lyssa Simeone.  During her weapons training, she came in contact with a failed Warder, Corwin.  Corwin's bond with Green Eleanor Sedai drove him near madness at various times.  Saline became fascinated by so-called madness of the mind and other deviant behaviors, questioning the way society views a Gaidin who outlives his bonded Sister.

While Accepted, Saline learned the value of teaching while mentoring many girls.  Several of them had blocks which she helped them with.  As she taught, she became more skillful and knowledgeable in the One Power, and she even assisted two of her mentees in discovering their rare Talents.

Rory was truly the turning of Saline's Wheel, assigned to Saline as her student.  Rory also had a block, and Lillian helped Rory destroy the block, opening faster learning opportunities up for Rory.  They chose to be roommates, an oddity because many Accepted choose to have their own rooms. They would often play many pranks, share beds or kiss each other awake jokingly. Rory was Saline’s trusty partner in crime. The worst year of Saline’s life was when the Mistress of Novices then, Darienna Sedai made them spend that year apart. After which Rory and Saline discovered their mutual romance at the reunion.

Raising: It happened that Saline and Rory were both raised to be Aes Sedai at the same time.  Saline chose Red, Rory the Green. Their love for each other deepened as the years passed, despite the demands of their different Ajahs.

Years later, Saline had a sudden attack of self-doubt and left Rory, sneaking out like a coward.

Saline traveled to Illian where she sought to bury her life and station. She hung up her serpent ring and got a job in a bakery, but the ageless face quickly gave her away. Despite this she refused to return because it was best for Rory, whom she loved, if she stayed away.

After a combination of time, self-pity and comfort pies Saline desired to return to those arms that once held her.  She began to understand even if she did not believe herself worthy of such sincere love (which she didn’t), Rory did. She resolved, despite her fear, to return to the White Tower and prove herself worthy of that love . . . if it still remained. She's returned to the Tower in search of her lost love, and Rory is rumoured to be somewhere in the Borderlands with Lillian Sedai.
