Raiders of the Lost Ark

They did a special 25th anniversary screening of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" last night at the Fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta.

 

 

The Fox is one of the last surviving movie palaces in the US. It was originally intended for use as the Shriners headquarters, so it has a gorgeous art deco Arabesque theme to the decor. My senior prom was held there, in the Eqyptian Ballroom. They use it mainly for traveling Broadway shows and things like that, but in the summers they do movies again.

 

Seeing Raiders on the big screen was just pure awesome. This movie came out just after I was born, so I never had a chance to see it like this. Movies like this are even better with crowds cheering and applauding when Indy punches Nazis in the face.

 

They're running Narnia later in the summer. We're thinking about seeing that one too.

I've been to a couple of theaters that will show older movies again, and the crowds are always great. It makes the movies, while wonderful on their own, just that much better. The interaction with the audience is the main reason I still see movies in the theater (I mean, come on. $9 for a ticket? What's that about?!?)
