You're welcome! I've wondered the same myself. : )  I've done a version of the ashandarei all in wood. I used a 1 7/16 pine for the haft.

Thanks very much! Much as I would love to sell my work, it seems clear that derivitive fan art (which this certainly is) is covered by copyright and I am not an official WoT "artist". Were that ever to happen though... : )

When Rand revived him after the hanging, Mat unknowingly translated the inscription from the Old Tongue it's written in. The ravens are actually described as being inlaid in a metal even darker than the black of the haft, but doing that was beyond me. I had to settle for carving it all the same way and staining the haft in the" darkest" black I could get.

This is my favorite of the e-book covers. The first time I saw it, my eyes were drawn to the ashandarei and I heard myself say in my head "I can make that." (Pics of my 1st attempt are in my album) I love the rest of the picture as well, his attire, his midstride posture, the ravens and the tree in the mist in the background. I've seen others comment that the only thing missing is Mat's hat and part of me agrees and wishes it were there, but there is also something to be said for being able to see his usually "tousled" hair and face. The face doesn't fit my mental picture of Mat's but I don't blame the artist for using himself as a stand-in, I certainly would. It's interesting that some think the blade of the ashadarei is a darker color; I read all the passages that mention it many times and never got that impression. But then, it doesn't ever mention a shiny or bright blade; just that it has ravens at the point.

Thank you! I haven't as of yet. These pics are of my 1st attempt at each weapon. I've often wondered if there would be people interested in them if I got pics out there. I hadn't looked at pics of the dagger in quite a while. I almost didn't want to post them because I think I can improve on it greatly. The ashandarei I was pretty pleased with for a 1st attempt. I had never used my dremel in that way before and it was quite nerve wracking doing the engraving as one mistake would've ruined it, to me. I tend to be a perfectionist and my own worst critic. But I would be interested in making more.
