This is exactly the review I needed — I just finished the book and needed help getting a perspective on its effect on me. You’ve really nailed it by pointing out the challenges of world-building from the perspective of someone as damaged and emotionally stunted as the hero. There were some truly great moments in the book — many! — but also many moments when the writer’s inconsistencies jolted me out of the story.
