  1. The flippant tongue is oft the tongue who has not wrought any critique worth having.... Would like me to explain the exact things to which I, an actual reader of arts know? I feel you will say many things then fade like so many weak winds. There was quite obviously a very interwoven group of writers that helped create fantasy as it is now and if u really care to find out about it -or, maybe your preferences lay more to.... Mad snark- then kindly read more of the era just prior to Amber, and thorn feel free to teach me a lesson here or in pms I won't hold my breath
  2. This actually does hold some interest for me since I am with many people in thinking that the show did not really dig in from the get go. I like the prologue- but I also like the idea of starting with the foretelling. I'll throw one more in for good measure. 1- the prologue The prologue of eye of the world is great stuff if somewhat confusing. Embracing the horror and unreal elements of it could have done quite a lot concerning the madness the taint. Just trim it down- keep some of the powerful moments- Ishamael healing Lews and Lews suddenly seeing everything he's wrought and the way Ishamael was nervous to do it for fear of what would happen. Lews Therin gateways out and screams his image fading out into - either the fade watching Rand, or into a one time Game of throne montage where Dragonmount mount spikes up and then map keeps changing and changing until- Two rivers. Where it starts as in the novel 2- the foretelling Young Moraine and Siuan are walking together and gossiping about the Aiel war which they don't believe will reach them and also mention rumors that Gitara has been 'foretelling' a lot of stuff, some of it very meh. They get there and get schooled about how easily the aiel are moving through the nations and boom we get the foretelling and Gitara keeling over... Intro probably Rand and Tam 3- TV riff They begin with the reds gentling Owen. And they definitely say his name... Fade into Thom getting off a horse and walking into the Winespring. He's grouchy so when one of the only patrons asks for a story he tells the story of the breaking of the world and all its menace... and then then you could actuality start from Edmond's field pretty well after the credit scene. If you have one that you like and can see the way it would go throw it in here
  3. Yes! Billy Zane actually did do a decent Ishamael and did deliver in the first volley of lines.... The rest though? Well you want true trash? I think one thing people keep missing that I know is undoubtedly true is that Jordan wrote his books more in the style of a movie- which honestly is more writerish as movies sprang from books. GRRM wrote his series more episodic- more like a TV drama and it was great. However, RJ absolutely went for cinematic scope- it's what makes an ending like LoC hit. Only on the big screen with hundreds of strangers and three hours of total investment is it going to make you walk out just as haunted as it does in the books
  4. Maybe I am being sarcastic to you-it's unclear. You see I neither propagate extreme rhetoric nor do I merely dabble in critique. Critique by the way is not supposed to be a necessarily negative thing. I would advise - if such is your course- that you should you pursue making critique about a character being strong VS weak then you should probably make the move to reading to reading romantasy where it is prolific. The good news is that Prime's newest offering will be 4th Wing-and I have to believe every strong character will be strong and every weak character weak. Personally I prefer nuance and some thoughtfulness.... Then again I never like to be edgy in my opines. Sidenote: I'm much more than a passable chess player and in chess circles its not uncommon to believe that a human teamed with an computer is better than the computer alone- i mean really- some computer VS computer match matched play quite uhhhhhhh artifical
  5. Make him weaker? Please? Did they mess up by not using him in Tarwins Gap? Did they absolutely not make Falme - one of the top endings in the books- what it should be? To say it makes him weaker? And i mean- I don’t make it personal in my critic- so no, it didn’t make Rand ‘weaker’. I literally just reread the first five books- would you really like to debate weakness with me? Please go sound off and cry harder somewhere else. I have no tears for you and thinking Rand was weak in this. Misplayed? I think so. Underutilized? Probably. But weaker? Please note: Actually thought Stradowski did really well with Rand. Misplayed is of the texture of production
  6. this mostly summarizes my feeling. It is the kind of thing that needed to really hit the ground running, and it didn’t really achieve a consistent evenness in all aspects until season 3. Two aspects of the show that worked well for me whenever they came up were when they leaned into the horror aspects and I actually thought any time they used comedy it matched quite well to the books. three aspects that didn’t work for me was the pacing, the Game Thrones effect, and the failure to hit many of the ‘!!!’ moments from the books. If i blame Rafe for antthing it’s not being managing the budget to make sure they delivered on some power moments like Falme or the Eye. The producers probably hamstrung the show by wanting to get into all the politicking instead or leaning into the horror. The pacing probably related to a clash between writers and producers. A sad day to be a WoT fan. Anyone petty or belligerent enough to think otherwise or throw blame on some ‘woke’ agenda generated by a single person rather than the unseen hand of producers who likely don’t read books at all just feels looks cynical. high point; Rhuidean low point: Agmars ummm we’ll call it charge- to change into his armor or something. I will always lol and smh at that one Agelmar
  7. The title is self explanatory. I've posted this before... however--- It's basically two books from WoT. After reading it you'll not only see how great RJ was at subversion- at stealing scenes, you'll see a whole amazing the Amber influence struck through almost every fantasy piece today. Grimdark? The 1st 5 are practically grimdark. Trust me on this- if you haven't read Amber save your WoT reread and get to it. You'll like everything more despite the stark contrast of narration.
