One thing you might have missed -- Avendesora. Fortunately, I am on another re-read of the entire series, and coincidentally I am on The Shadow Rising - right after Rand's travel through the glass-columned ter'angreal.
It was said that a city without chora would be dull. This implies that Avendesora was plentiful back then. Also notice its mysterious soothing effect.
Following that logic, the Tree at Rhuidean might be powering the various ter'angreal still left there. Perhaps it is also the reason why the Aes Sedai of old went to such great lengths to preserve them.
