  1. No. I'm not reading the rest of this series without SOME kind of knowledge of how dangerous and competent Team Shadow is. They're the ONLY reason I'm still reading (I'm on book 8) I haven't been reading all the threads. Not even most of the posts here. I don't care about being spoiled

    To each their own!

There are lots of people exaggerating the faults of the last book. I wouldn't take the bad stuff here too seriously. I got through the entire thing without catching anything these guys are saying. After reading their comments I'm like "Yeah....thats true" - But it doesn't bother me.

  2. To everyone who has got the sads, it gets better.

Give it a week or two, took me about 5-6 days of bitter/sadness before I accepted that it was over and am content with it.

@EmperorAllspice, Don't read these threads if you don't have the final book. Everyone goes into it with different expectations.

  3.

Keep in mind that Gawyn and Egwene form the only actually tragic series-length arc in the books. Like any good tragedy, hubris gets them in the end; both spend most of the series struggling with the balance between pridefulness and self-sacrifice, and both frequently fail.

Of course, Gawyn begins a prince and ends a mere Warder, while Egwene goes from innkeeper's daughter to becoming one of the most powerful individuals in the world. And, in a similar way, Gawyn dies in vain because of his excessive pride, which kills him in the end, while Egwene dies in glory thanks to an act of supreme self-sacrifice. Unlike many of the major relationships depicted, the story of Egwene and Gawyn is deceptively complex, even a little Shakespearian.

So, TL;DR: Hating on Gawyn is fun, but remember that he's so hatable because he's actually a pretty clever literary device.

Taken from the subreddit for WoT (Click here). [Gawyn, AMOL Spoilers within the link)

Thought it was an EXTREMELY good point about Egwene and Gawyn's relationship. It gave me a lot of respect for their story, and I feel that everyone would benefit from thinking about them in this way.

Spoiler tagged, although the WoT subreddit keeps very strict rules on spoilers as well. Not sure who would discuss Egwene's plot without knowing Gawyn's but I like to be careful.

  4. I really do think people are not counting the recovery time necessary for channeling.

They do not recover in one nights sleep. They were in serious demand for long periods of time, and they would have had to start cycling them in and out after a week.

I honestly think they kept "pushing" the one power users too an unrealistic level. It was a lot of "they are exhausted, now they are really exhausted, SUPER EXHAUSTED".

I don't recall any exact numbers on how fast an Aes Sedai can recover after going all out in a battle, but I'm confident they are still tired the next day, and there was fighting every day, and demand for waygates/healing constantly.

The Seanchan also lost a large number of their military from holding their provinces, and as Tuon/Rand discussed, they could barely MAINTAIN their current borders. They have lost a large majority of their "Return" numbers.

Sorry if this was already discussed, just saw a lot of complaints about how channelers should have melted entire armies in the Last Battle. By the time the battle at merrillor happened almost all of them were still recovering.

  5. Just a quick question.

Why does everyone assume we were suppose to LIKE what Egwene became? Her double personality stuff aside, from my perspective a lot of people say something like "Well I didn't like Egwene, she was written badly" - I just think she wasn't really intended for us to like.

After the emotional trauma she went through I don't doubt she became a cold bitch.

But I would have liked some more reasoning and discussion when she flipped her decision on the seals.

The way she treated Mat was a bit annoying. It's like everyone forget he is the damn COMMANDER of the Band of the Red Hand.
