  1. I had this whackadoodle thought the other night about how the phantasm dressed in aiel clothes at the end, which alot of folks including myself believe to be Nakomi, is actually the form of Egwene a la hero of the horn...Which would then mean she would have to be one, or else have at that point in time become one.

It all goes downhill from there, and I didn't bother to check the timing of death vs. blowing of the horn, but hey, I did say it was whackadoodle, and it's more fun to think about it if you gloss over the terrible execution of including such a character in the manner of which we see, when Rand's making his way out of the Pit and such.

  2. I am appalled. Simply, appalled

Brian works his tail off day in day out, skimps on no detail no matter how miniscule irregardless of importance or relevance to the overarching plot. There are no big or small moments, they're ALL big moments, with never(never!) a shortcut taken, and his meticulous attention to even the most minute of circumstances only serves to further endear his super-dooperness to those of us who just know he is the epitome of what we should all strive for, whether we pen novels or pick our noses.

Yes, Brian. A man so fine, some say, that many an editorial team has fallen, stricken in utter shock & disbelief upon learning their services should ever be required, in the service of such an unquestionable giant!

Good day, sir! I say. GOOD DAY *haughty sniff

  3. Suttree you hoser!

Brian's duh best. ERrrrrrrrbuddy knows 'dat! Critical analysis, pfff ain't nobody got time for that! ITS HOW I FEEEELLL MAAANNNNNNNNnnnnn-*exasperated coughing

GOAT GREATESTEST OF ALL THE WHEELIEOTIMES  *convoluted nonsensical hand signs

    *restrained, yet unconcealed wheezing chuckle

  4. Pff, isn't it obvious:

In AMoL, the case of Nakomi is used to represent Harriet, who is coaxing the 'hero' BS <ridiculous eye rolling> who is carrying the dead man 'RJ' to the end(of the story), from the Pit, where the conclusion of WoT, should the work of this series have gone unfinished, would have remained.

I loathe the analogy, it's retarded, but it stupidly, stupidly, sort of works.

  5. Rereading ToM: Return to Bandar Eban

First page of the chapter: Blah blah blah rand & min, plus two maidins arrive back in bandar eban via gateway into an ally.

Exposition goes on to say that one of the maidins appears nervous for the lack of posse, or whatnot, and is then "reassured" by Rand, by means of placing his hand on her shoulder.

...Now who the f-bombing f-bomb thought that just fit right in on the list of how to reassure a nervous Aiel - by touching them while armed?

Gee, that just mixes perfectly with everything we know about the norms of Aiel society...

  7. *sound of flushing toilet

So the entire male a'dam wouldn't be cuendillar then, considering the necklace was destroyed - but not by balefire.

However if in the case the entire a'dam were cuendillar, it makes the case that TP can destroy cuendillar...

But TP balefire can't do the same, when the cuendillar in question is against the skin of someone just balefired, yet everything else they were wearing is vaped along with them - and not by like a hair of balefire, a bar of it burst from rand's hand *glances at area/diameter of own palm, i think the wording was similar to that?

Then again it makes Nynaeve, et al, look pretty dumb, if only the bracelets were cuendillar, and she could have destroyed the necklace, back in the day, when it was all sitting nice and neat in front of her.

Go figure, chalk it up as an eyeroller.

  8. Grinding my teeth through TGS, again:

When Rand reveals to Cadsuane the bracelets from the now defunct male a'dam:

1.) At that point we know that using the TP, Rand broke apart/destroyed the necklace element - The male a'dam can be vaped by the TP.

2.) He then used TP Balefire on Semi & Elza

...But the bracelets aren't affected, and are around to be showcased to Cads? Yet, none of their (S & E's) clothing, or other adornments are noted to remain.

    YYYYYYYyyeeahhhh... .. .what?

  9. Alright so I'm on a re-read, and just finished through Crown of Swords...

Did anyone else find it just kind of weird that Moridin just happened to be at SL, so shortly after Sammael & Rand had arrived?

As to say, Sammael goes all bru-hah-hah challenge challenge in response to Rand et al's Illian surprise, and gates away. Rand follows him.

Assuming SL wasn't planned out as a trap beforehand, and since Rand's plan came off like a complete surprise, is the thinking that Sammael 'paged' for lack of better words, for help in an off camera moment in the meantime, when we're just seeing things from Rand's PoV...Or, Mori just happened to be out for a stroll?

Probably just reading too far into it, but it is kind of weird to think about. *shrug

  10. Could be beating a thoroughly dead horse...but I'm rereading TSR, just past the Rhuidean/Finnland chapters. I know the ole big unnoticed thing was how the spear's the masterkey for getting out of Finnland, and the prompt was that Mat asked for a way out - the spear fulfilling that request?

Anyway, re-reading...Mat never asks for a way out. He says '...and I want to be away from you and back to Rhuidean, if you will not answer me'

Reading too far into something already covered? Ouuuuwhatup?

  11. In both cases, the deaths themselves would likely be manslaughter

I disagree regarding the first. Though of course it all depends on which country's legal system you wish to use. As I understand it in my own country you a murder cannot be downgraded to manslaughter through self-defence. Either you are guilty of murder or not-guilty due to the fact that you were defending yourself or family from a real and present danger. In the first case I don't think Perrin could plead self-defence as eve after he killed a Whitecloak they still didn't kill him. The threat he was under would be a mitigating factor in the sentence of the murder not enough to downgrade the charge itself.

However, he could have an interesting angle to play in the self-defence. He could argue that Hopper was family to him in which case his actions were in self-defence. Still I don't think many legal systems would accept that a wolf will qualify for self defence. Because even though people consider their dogs and cats etc to be part of their family, killing someone who killed your cat/dog would not be sanctioned under self-defence law.

Yeah I actually wouldn't have gone with a self-defense angle at all.

More so it's the provocation via Hopper's death that sells it as manslaughter, in the States, for me. You could probably work in a diminished capacity angle for an altered mental state, as Perrin did apparently go fairly bonkers, and could be said to have been out of his mind, when he axed the two dudes in white.

When Hopper was killed, it provoked Perrin, who went coo-coo, killing the victims while in that altered mental state. Intent is definitely there though, thus the lean towards voluntary, rather than involuntary manslaughter. Perrin was provoked, intended to do harm, and was looney toons at the time the act of killing occurred.

Like you said though it has a whole lot to do with what legal system you're under. :loial:

  12. In the States I would call Perrin v. Whitecloaks, in EoTW, as being voluntary manslaughter for sure.

...Dunno how I feel about Perrin v. More Whitecloaks, with Gaul. Guess it'll be something random to think about since I'm in a re-read eh?

  13. I'm thinking it was more manslaughter rather than murder, what do you all think?

...Not that there's any difference in what the assumed punishment may have been for either, in the case of Perrin v. Whitecloaks

  14. Apologies if touched on earlier...it's a long thread *shrug

As a part of the Finn's answer(s) to Rand concerning TG: "The two must be as one"

What do you folks think the odds are that they're implying that saiden & saidar must both be used together, as opposed to say the thought of Rand & Moridin merging/resulting bodyswap theory?

The thought struck me with the :aessedai: symbol - two parts of the one power, used as one. Even represented symbolically in the cuendillar seals, though formed only with the male half. Two must be as one, men and women using both parts of the One power.

    Two must be as one?

    The Question: Too simple? Thoughts?
