  1. I am not sure if this is a simple question but I'll chance it.

Rand has been having internal conversations with LTT. The consciousness of LTT is clearly real (rather than a delusion) as it has provided knowledge that Rand could not know. An example is he instantly recognizes Semirhage when he sees her in KOD. Now Rand is a distinct personality formed from his experiences growing up in the 2 Rivers. LTT has a distinct personality which comes from his life in the AOL. Now LTT killed himself because he was guilty about killing his family/friends while he was mad from the Taint. He realised what he had done as his insanity was temporarily lifted from him by Ishmael. Now that LTT's personality is living in Rand's head, is he still mad from the Taint.

Does Rand share his head with an insane LTT personality or is LTT actually lucid/free from the taint's insanity but merely rambling through his confusion/grief and guilt from his previous life?

I think that LTT should be free of the taint now that his soul has been reincarnated. Does insanity caused by the taint carry through after reincarnation? I would think not. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

See the BUT thread and the Luckers/Terez exchange for a discussion on this.  Pages 239-241(or so).

Personally, I think the voice was just Rand trying to rationalize things for himself.  He created the voice as a way to explain how he was creating complex weaves and remembering things from his past life.  He didn't want to go crazy, so he split that part of himself off and called it the madman.  Kind of like telling himself 'I'm not gay, but my boyfriend is'.  There is subjective evidence of this in VoG, but that chapter was so well done you could interpret it both ways.

This is a huge can of worms-it certainly doesn't fall under the simple question/answer premise.

JackeBarnes referred you to the last several pages of the BUT.  There's more discussion in this thread:

I was looking for the other thread dealing with the same thing, but I couldn't find it.  The first thread I posted should show you enough of where the debate stands, if you can process through it.

Thanks Bront and Jake. I will pursue my question in that thread.

  3. Do we know whether Thom and a young Moraine ever met when Thom was Court Bard and Bard for House Trakand? Moraine was raised to the Shawl and was not close to Taringail but is there any indication that she ever visited her half-brother Taringail in Caemlyn and might have encountered a younger Thom? Was Moraine at the wedding of Taringail and Morgase? This was before the Aiel War so perhaps Moraine was still Accepted and thus prevented from attending but there is still a chance - after all Royal Weddings involving close relatives do not happen everyday.

Also Moraine must have known Tigraine when she was young as Tigraine was married to Taringail. Tigraine has been gone for a long time but other folks have noticed the physical resemblance between the two and Tigraine disappeared about the same time Moraine went to the White Tower.  Has there been any hints that Moraine had guessed that Rand is Tigraine's son due to the physical resemblance? Has there been any hints about Moraine's relationship with Tigraine? Did Moraine like Tigraine or know her well?

  4. Has it been explained how Taim was able to locate Rand at Dumai's Wells? The Asha'man just sort of appeared. Did they somehow detect Rand because he was channelling - maybe when he exploded the box. There is little indication that Rand is channelling a lot of saidin and it seems unlikely to me that Asha'man could detect a small amount of channelling from a great distance.

How did the Asha'man know where Rand was and did they jump in to rescue him as soon as he was located?

  5. I am not sure if this is the right thread for this  but I could not see another more appropriate one.

Does anyone else think that there is a possible contradiction in the 3 Oaths and observed behaviour. Namely, the 3rd Oath prevents Aes Sedai using the OP as a weapon except against Shadowspawn or in self defence. So the 3rd Oath prevents Aes Sedai from using the OP as a weapon. Is not using the OP to torture people using it as a weapon?

We have seen Aes Sedai using the OP to beat people with several times in order to hurt people. Aes Sedai tortured Rand during his kidnapping using the OP. Egwene was beaten by Elaida in the White Tower. It is heavily implied that Siuan Sanche was 'put to the question'/tortured by Alviarin when she was deposed and stilled. I am guessing Alviarin would have used the OP rather than hot pliers! Now we know Alviarin is Black Ajah but she tortured Sian Sanche openly - other Sisters involved in the Coup were aware of this and were OK with it.

Seems a contradiction to me. What do you folks think?

  6. Apologies if this has been asked and answered already, or if it is blaringly obvious; I just can't seem to remember.

Do we know why Thom is in Emond's Field in The Eye of the World? Certainly, a gleeman was hired by the Village Council for Bel Tine, but is it just pure coincidence? Was he just in Baerlon by chance at the right time? Or does he have some deeper motive/ understanding/ reason to be there.

Ta'veren cause what seem to be coincidences.
